DreamWorks’ toy brand turned movie franchise is back with Trolls Band Together. When I did my review of the last two films, while I didn’t like them, I was forgiving for providing some elements of quality. This time with Band Together, I feel like the Trolls have overstayed their welcome with their musical mess.

Much like you I myself never really cared for the Trolls movies, the first two movies weren’t great but they did have some redeeming qualities to them like the animation, however I have no interest in watching this movie. I think the issue I have with these movies is they they really just feel corporately manufactured and it’s only used as a way for Dreamworks to sell toys, and with this film, I feel like this franchise has pretty much run its course and I think Dreamworks needs to stop this franchise here so that way it doesn’t overstay its welcome.

Honestly say what you will about the recent MLP movies, but at the very least some heart was put into them, even if the final results were left to be desired.

Never thought I see you give a Seal of Garbage to a Trolls movie out of all the bad mediocre films that DreamWorks Animation has put out like 2021 line up movies like Boss Baby sequel for example. Not just a Troll movie or a DreamWorks movie, but a DreamWorks movie in the Universal era since the acquisition by Comcast which makes this the first Universal movie to be given a Seal of Garbage since the Cats broadway version film and first animated Universal film since The Jetsons: The Movie upon dealing with animated films from Universal for the latter. How crazy is that? Anyways, I too seen it on Saturday for the fan screenings and I don’t hate it as much as Mat did. Yeah, I do agree that it is weakest film of the Trolls franchise, but I give it bit positive thanks to it color animation with the Muppet like Dr. Seuss world that I like the most, okay voice casting, a and a few songs like *NSYNC’s Better Place which is the first time to see Justin Timberlake and his boy band friends reunited in after all these years ago, but the rest were not good like the predictable messy story, subplots which I didn’t care for, characters remains the same with few new characters like the villains were obnoxiously annoying, relying on plot elements from the first film rather than expanding more like what they did with Trolls World Tour, which speaking of that film, it barely acknowledges after what happened with the 2020 film as if it doesn’t exist, bad humor, and of course weak writing and direction that this sequel offers. I don’t hate it but this is a complete step backwards for me and I wouldn’t recommend people to watch it unless you’re a diehard Trolls fan in wanting to see it. I think DreamWorks should just lay the franchise to rest before it pulls another Ice Age or Hotel Transylvania in running this franchise to the ground to the point that audiences will getting sick of tired of seeing Poppy, Branch, and the gang in pulling the same shtick again. It only a matter of time before it too late.

Kinda funny that this film actually came out in European countries like my own Ireland a month before its debut in the US. I guess because there's a larger following for Trolls there, but with how the movie's doing at the worldwide box office currently, it seems to be proving Mat correct that this franchise has overstayed its welcome. Despite the numerous times I had to sit through them when going to the movies, the trailers absolutely failed to convince me enough to go and watch the film, let alone look forward to it. They practically summed up the entire movie for me anyway and it didn't look like it was gonna be worthwhile, so what was even the point? And honestly, I'm kinda glad I haven't. It really is just another example like Ruby Gillman earlier this year, of how DreamWorks is still not at their creative prime yet, let alone commercially speaking. Oh well, roll on Wish!

If Gordon Ramsay was to describe the 3rd Trolls movie, I’m pretty sure he would be like “I’m flipping done! Flipping done.”

Despite what I think your statement was really harsh, I can't say I don't agree. To me, I still find this more appealing than Ruby Gillman's, however, I can say that the plotline given does feel ridiculous, and for that ladder, given about Poppy's sister does like a better idea compared to Branch's side of the story. Still, if you want my opinion I say it's the better Trolls film, Weaker than the second, but better than the first. I'm not a Huge fan of this franchise either, but sometimes I thought it was very appealing what they can deliver. Even the choreography was the selling point despite I'm not really a "Pop music" kind of guy, gives me a sense like Micheal Jackson's Moonwalker since that one is more a Music video compilation than a film and this is not any different. It's for sure not gonna win everyone over considering the manufacturer's decisions (even for that it's like a hard pill💊 to swallow there) But at least to say they did try...

I guess 2022 really was just a fluke for DreamWorks

OMG! This is Shrek the Third all again! Same story problems as that film with it telling so many different stories that they can’t combine them together into one cohesive narrative and introducing a new character that’s a relative of one of the main characters. I’d never thought the Shrek the Third curse would come back for this one. After how infamously bad that film turned out, I thought Dreamworks would be more careful with making their third installment films in their franchises and it did look like they were improving with Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted, Kung Fu Panda 3 and How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World. Say what you will about them, but at least they’re better than Shrek the Third and this film and do a much better job of expanding their franchise’s respective worlds and evolving their characters that feel like worthwhile additions to those stories. I can’t believe Dreamworks regressed and brought back the same problems as Shrek the Third for this one. And really sad after the great success they had last year with The Bad Guys (looking forward to the holiday special coming to Netflix this month) and Puss in Boots: The Last Wish. This and Ruby Gillman really show that all of those successes were just flukes and that they are still just an animation studio with hit-or-miss films and with the success of Elemental and the possible success of Wish, it really shows that all that studio wars was for nothing.

It really sucks when Dreamworks was doing much better with their third installment films with their respective and popular franchises like Madagascar, Kung Fu Panda and How to Train Your Dragon after how infamously bad their first third installment to their first popular franchise Shrek the Third turned out. This really felt like they took a step backwards and just repeated the problems of Shrek the Third with the messy storyline, bad jokes, pointless new characters and forced pop songs. I never thought we’d see another Dreamworks sequel on the same level as Shrek the Third but it happened.

Same, Mat. This review is all I need. Who asked for this movie?
