All characters engaged in sexual activity are 18 or older.
A steady pounding on my door wakes me up. Grumbling to myself, I throw the blanket off my naked body, stomp across the room, and yank open the door with little regard for who might see me like this. It’s what they deserve for waking me up on a Saturday before noon. “What?” I snarl, only to see Kevin standing there with a smirk on his face.
“Well, good morning to you too.” He steps inside and shuts the door behind him. His gaze drops to my cock and he wets his lips, the smirk getting bigger. “Your morning wood is cute, bro. But get dressed, we’re going out.”
I stare at him, slack-jawed. “You did not just call my erection cute.” The nerve of him! “My morning wood is at the very least sexy,” I say before deliberately swaying my hips while I walk over to my dresser to pull out some clothes. “Where are we going anyways?”
It’s strange, the past two days have been nothing but pure torture with this game. But here we are, acting like we haven’t been crossing lines straight best friends—well, mostly straight—should ever cross.
“I’m taking you out on a date,” Kevin says, looking almost… nervous? No way, Kevin doesn’t get nervous.
I laugh awkwardly. “No, seriously, what are we doing?” I’ve got boxers on now, but I need to know what the game plan is so I can pick out the right outfit. He is dressed pretty sharply, though, rocking some casual loafers, chinos, and a cute half-sleeve button down that brings out his eyes.
Fuck me, he’s really cute. Wait, why do I think Kevin is cute?
He fidgets with some papers on my desk, deliberately not looking at me. “I’m serious, Chris. I’m taking you out on a date.”
“Dude, that’s like really…”
He turns to look at me and arches a brow. “What? Gay? Dude, you sucked me off yesterday in front of our teammate, and I’ve jerked you off twice now. It doesn’t get gayer than that.” He laughs. “Besides, this is part of the game. So unless you’re calling it quits, get dressed and let’s go.”
Shit. He’s really serious about this. I shake my head and smile pretty for him. “No. No, I’m not giving up. But if we’re going out on an actual date, let me get ready properly.”
He nods and heads to my door. “Meet me at my room when you’re done.” He takes a step out of the room, then turns around again and winks. “Oh, and wear something cute.”

Not even thirty minutes later, I’ve showered, shaved, and changed into something nice to match Kevin’s vibe. We’re walking to his beat-up Corolla when he darts to my right and opens the car door for me. I give him a look and he blushes. “What? I told you I’m taking you out on a date. This is what I do for my dates.”
I chuckle and then wait until he slides into the driver’s seat. “Dude, you take women on dates. I’m a guy. I’m pretty sure the rules are different for men.”
He looks out the windshield, contemplative. “Then what are the rules?” There’s that nervous look on his face again. It doesn’t make any sense. Kevin is the most charismatic, confident person I know. So why does he look so nervous today?
I shrug, and it dawns on me that I don’t really know either. “I… I’m not sure. How about we make up our own rules?”
Kevin smiles at that and takes my left hand into his right and starts driving. His palm is warm, but it fits in my hand like it belongs there, like this is something we’ve always done. It feels… nice.
As always, conversation flows easily between us. Ever since we met all those years ago on the first day of high school, there hasn’t been a moment I felt awkward or confused when talking to Kevin. We’ve told each other everything from first crushes to hopes and dreams to the things we find annoying about our parents. Hell, we even told each other—in graphic detail no less—about our first times having sex. Of course, Kevin lost his virginity first, and I distinctly remember feeling weird about it; like my stomach was tying itself into knots when his girlfriend finally agreed to take the next step.
After a while, there’s a comfortable lull in the conversation, but then I think of something. “You never told me where we’re going. We’ve been driving for like twenty minutes already.”
He glances at me with a mischievous smile on his face before focusing on the road again. “You’ll have to wait and see.”
I roll my eyes and try to figure out where we could be headed by the landmarks around us, but come up empty. It isn’t until we make one last turn that Seaside Delights, a very posh beachside restaurant, comes into view. “Dude! I’ve wanted to come here since this place opened up!” I’m practically bouncing in my seat now at the thought of eating there.
“I know.” He beams at me, and a wave of mixed emotions washes over me. I’ve mentioned exactly twice that I wanted to come here. The first was several months ago when the restaurant opened up and the second was about a month after the grand opening, when I was frustrated that I couldn’t get a reservation. I gave up trying to come here after that.
We’re quiet as we pull into a parking spot. “How did you get a reservation here? You have to be like an A-list celebrity or a rich guy to get a spot here.”
Kevin shrugs, playing with his car keys. “One of the assistant coaches knows a guy here. I wanted to bring you at night, but they couldn’t pull it off, so I settled for brunch instead. I hope you don’t mind it’s not dinnertime.”
I scoff disbelievingly. “Mind? Kevin, you brought me on a date to a restaurant I’ve been dying to eat at for months now. The fact that you remembered that I wanted to come here at all is a big deal—let alone that you actually pulled it off.”
“So you like it?”
“Like it? Kevin, I fucking love it!” I stretch over the center console and pull him in for a kiss. This is different from the other kisses we’ve had before. Before, it was about the game and trying to beat each other. This is so much sweeter and softer than those kisses. This feels real.
When I finally pull away, we’re both sporting boners, and my heart is beating erratically. He whispers against my lips, “I always remember everything you tell me, Chris. There isn’t a single moment between us that I would ever forget.”
My mouth feels as dry as the Sahara, and all I can manage is a smile. I don’t know what’s happening, but this doesn’t feel like it’s part of the game anymore.
