Notebooks that lay flat when opened!! Squeeeeeeeee! Well, I think figuring out the best way to organize your written music will be trial by error. I think continuing to experiment with various types of ways to record and store your music will eventually get you to realize what is best for you. Being open to ideas is great, but ultimately it will completely be up to you. It seems as if you already have a pretty good system going. Organizing your written pieces in a binder is an excellent way. I wonder if organizing the divider tabs by year would help, but then again, I feel skeptical about it because finding a specific song you wrote in one year may be too difficult to find, unless you alphabetize them? Or even maybe sort them by theme? It almost seems like you need a filing cabinet since you’re just going to be adding more and more songs overtime. I would be hesitant to keep it all in a database software, like you said, because reliable software might be a challenge to find and you could potentially lose all your music. I’ve had my pictures and my schoolwork for my master’s program stored on an external hard drive and they were all lost because the drive was corrupt. That’s stress that you don’t need. However, you might want to consider doing both. It would take time and work, but having both digital and hard copies might be a good idea too. But these are just my thoughts. Oh, and a thesaurus is always your best friend! And yes! These videos are veritable (ty thesaurus haha) and much appreciated! Keep doing more! <3

Very cool seeing your setup and process, a bit like those TV shows where they show how people work :D It's especially interesting for crafts where you create something from literally nothing. There is nothing there, and poof, a few hours later, a song! For the organization part, you could look into a NAS - Network Attached Storage device. With one of those, you can access all your files from any device on the network, and do backups easier for the important data etc.

"Time --> chloride of lime" ... ok that was amusing :D, a good start to the day. I always like the inside in to a process and a video like this is part of it. Very much appreciated. :D I do like the idea of a separate space for the writing etc. keeps things uncluttered and one can concentrate more on a specific task or maybe a better way of saying it .. it is less distracting. At work, we try to go more paperless (doesn't quiet work), so it is refreshing to the use of a notebook etc. to which I never really thought about the "staying open thing" ... but thinking about it it makes sense and is annoying otherwise. I have to pay more attention to it. Thanks :). For storing and organizing music, a database (or database like) approach would be easier as it would be a point of "adding a tag" or something if you want to associate a song / project with a new idea. Also it would make it easier to "search" and maintain. On the other side, programs becoming obsolete, server getting hacked, storage drives corrupted it could be an issue. I have some of these issue with my older work which would be interesting to look at but it is hard to access / find it. Something that uses both? It is probably harder to set up / maintain. But something a long the lines of keep a hard copy (alphabetically / project sorted) as a back-up and either have an "online index only" or a "main online" workspace. I'd assume and "off-line" index/"database" might get a bit messy to maintain, but could be something along the line of "which projects were done in what year". I used a database program to sort journal articles I read for my master thesis. However I only used it as an index i.e. article name, authors, summary, etc. and kept the article itself alphabetically and as a hard copy as it was easier to navigate (for me) :).

is it bad that I had to look "veritable" up? ... umm. :)

I don't have really any experience with professional writing, and especially not with composing. So, all I can say is "Hey, that looks neat. It's nice to see it works for you." And as a side note, I wish all journals, notebooks, and books all stayed flat. That would relieve so many pain-in-the-butts. As for organizing, the best suggestion I have is splitting them into categories and then splitting each into smaller and smaller categories. Such as personal and contracted, then into album/collection and singles, then more specific collection and type/genre of single, then each track, then track related stuff, then then then then then. I've thought about this too much. That might be overkill and/or too much effort, but there is no such thing as 'too organized' :P

I love your space and I really love the color scheme! It's more girly and pretty. It shows your feminine side. It's so interesting to hear your thoughts on creativity - how you organize yourself and just your whole process. I used to love to write and actually tried writing a book one time. Of course, I never followed through until the end (a bad habit of mine except when it comes to playing an Xbox game - I HAVE to finish it even when I get super frustrated with it.) I nearly quit Dead Space right at the end because I didn't think I would be able to kill that mega monster. But, I soldiered on because I felt it was just flat out wrong to get all the way through that scary game and not finish it. I didn't want to be a quitter. I finished it and only died one time!!!! It would be fun to watch you work on a song from start to finish, but I know that creativity cannot be put into a box within a set time frame. I am thankful for the times when you draw us in, and share your process of making a song with all the parts, bits, and pieces, that it takes to create a whole - like when you did Dragonborn. I found that completely fascinating and wondered how on earth you learned how to use it and know exactly what to do and what to listen for. As far as journals, I wish I was a journaler. Is that a word? I know people who have stacks of journals. I maybe get in a week's worth and then quit. I guess because I feel I don't have anything important to say. Does that mean I haven't found my voice yet? I better hurry up if I am going too, as I will be 66 in August. On a positive note, my kids won't have to get rid of a pile of journals some day when I am gone!!! Thank you for showing us your work space. I can now picture you sitting there while your mind works out a new song, or a new process. Oh! And maybe you could write a post-it note ;-) to yourself to take us back into your kitchen for another cooking episode - make us something super yummy Mexican meal that is your favorite. (hint hint)

It seems those years of playing video games gave you good reflexes... Good catch with the recorder. :D

As a chemist, I would like a song in which you rhyme "Time" with "Chloride of Lime" please. Great video, especially the demo of why you don't like to use an external recorder :-)

Malu.. you may want to look at a synology storage solution for backing up and storing your work you can use note station to speak into your phone while your writing it will digitize the words to txt then note station will sync it with your storage. and it can be access from your Computer or Mac at the same time. Note Station | Synology Inc. https://www.synology.com/en-global/dsm/feature/note_station Start a quick note on your mobile. Having feelings or thoughts that are hard to write down? Simply speak it into a note by recording a quick voice memo on your phone.
