Hey all, I've got another update for my take on an Alternate Blood Hunter Class! Some small changes to the base class and subclasses since the previous update. The biggest addition has been an entire suite of new/updated Blood Rites!

I've also included a little #math at the end for those that are curious about how balanced Vital Sacrifice is. The math uses a Blood Hunter who built their Character using the Standard Array (starting with 16 CON), and maxing their DEX or STR before maxing their CON with ability score increases.

Since the Blood Hunter was originally a d10 Hit Die class (and is now a d12), I've calculated the number of Vital Sacrifices you can make before your max hit points reduce you to the equivalent of a d10 Hit Die class.

Changes since last post:

  • Number of Blood Rites known changed (you start with two).
  • Vital Control now gives you a "free" Vital Sacrifice once per long rest.
  • Sanguine Mastery now subtracts your CON mod from Vital Sacrifice rolls.
  • Pale Moon's Hybrid Form weapons are specified as simple weapons.
  • Added TEN new Blood Rites (scaling up to 17th level)!

This is a Work in Progress, so let me know what you think!

Does Crimson Offering work with the Order of the Pale Moon's natural weapons?

Thank you so much for adding in the Content Warning for self-harm!! I'm someone who had a serious issue with that in my past, and while I'm recovered, warnings help me make sure I'm prepared before diving into something. I'm also a mental health practitioner, and it's just such good practice. I want you know how impactful it is that you do that, and how much it means to me.

Glad to hear! There are definitely ways to play the class without mentioning it, but (unfortunately or not) the default “fantasy” of a Blood Hunter includes it.
