New Song: "Pi Day" (Patreon)

It's Pi Day, and I wanted to write you a song
About irrational numbers, infinitely long
I’d set it to that one tune by Rebecca Black,
Or maybe that song by The Cure should be my track:
I don't care if Monday’s fake,
Tuesday, Wednesday, make a cake,
Thursday, don't know what to bake --
Pi Day, I’m in ove-
-en....
It turns out there are fourteen thousand parodies
Of “Friday”, and they’re all lyric catastrophes.
As well as ninety-seven rewrites of The Cure,
And of several dozen songs much more obscure.
I’m not used to being beaten to the punch,
To having other songwriters eat my lunch.
But there are songs about fruit pastry I could quote,
And even some about that tiger in the boat.
Instead, I think I’ll write about the concept Pi.
It’s universal, everyone knows and knows why,
Though the state of Indiana tried to make Pi three,
Go look it up, and then weep for humanity.
But anyone who's learned basic geometry
Understands its transcendental purity.
Circumference of a circle over diameter,
Is always equal to that unending number.
And so much science, engineering, and more
Is based upon that simple, ancient constant score.
It isn't even very hard to understand,
And once you know it, welcome to math’s wonderland.
Most important, recognize that everyone
Who understands some math will understand this one.
And so, if billions can share in a single thing,
Who knows what sharing more tomorrow just might bring?
So celebrate the number which changed everything,
And if you have your own Pi song, go on and sing.
Have a slice of apple, peach, rhubarb, pecan,
And watch that tiger boat thing, Netflix has it on.
Na na, na na na na, hey hey hey, good Pi.
