This one may have to be re-recorded. I was having problems with the vocals, and the melody kept wriggling out from under me. But I love the arrangement, and I think the words are pretty funny too, especially if you imagine it sung by, say, Wilbur Whateley to whatever he might have spawned. The various Cthuloid words are phonetic recreations of the original Lovecraftian verse, more or less.
The weirdest thing to me is that this scans reasonably well to "Git Along, Little Doggies". When I was a child, my grandmother toldMe tales of the ones who are great and are old,They lie twixt the boundaries of all that we know,And our only hope is, they breed kinda slow.
That is not dead which can eternal lie,And with strange eons, even death may die.So hush, now, sweet youngling, and lay down your head,And just like the Old Ones, be dead but not dead.
In his house at R’lyeh dead Cthulhu waits dreaming,And you can wait with him till the final gods’ war,May Mi-Go embrace you and silence your screaming,Until sunk R’lyeh rises with Cthulhu once more.
Ia! Ia! Fun-gluey m’glow cthulhuMy grandfather sang this, my grandmother too.Ia! Ia! R’lyeh w’gah naggle fthagnNow you’ve metamorphosed, I’ll sing it to you.
They summoned my playmates with discordant math,The Fungi from Yoggoth and Shub-Niggarath,They taught me such wonders, they showed me such sights,No, wait, that’s Hellraiser, we can’t get those rites.
Nyarlothotep, Dagon, and the Great God PanOne day they’ll return and they’ll subjugate ManAnd those who oppose them have sealed their fate,They’ll be driven insane if they aren’t just ate.
In his house at R’lyeh dead Cthulhu waits dreaming,The alarm clock is set, and there isn’t a snooze,When the stars are right, the seas will start steaming,And then we’ll find out if he swallows or chews.
Ia! Ia! Fun-gluey m’glow cthulhuWhen the gate finally opens and the Old Ones come through,Ia! Ia! R’lyeh w’gah naggle fthagn,Humankind will be broiled and served up au jus.
My grandmother taught me, my grandfather too,And now, my sweet child, I’ll pass it to you,So don’t fear the shadows that crawl out of time,Just don’t feed them after eleven fifty-nine
In his house at R’lyeh dead Cthulhu waits dreaming,The deadline is coming, although you may scoff. We’ll watch Armageddon on internet streaming,When it’s done, your connection won’t be all that’s cut off.
Ia! Ia! Fun-gluey m’glow cthulhuHumanity’s future will twist in the wind.Ia! Ia! R’lyeh w’gah naggle fthagnI looked in the abyss, and it looked back and grinned.
Ia! Ia! Fun-gluey m’glow cthulhuThe Void’s many minions all chitter and teem.Ia! Ia! R’lyeh w’gah naggle fthagnSo sleep now, my darling, but try not to dream.
