Hi, folks. The new chapters are delayed for a bit as I try to figure out some details, so instead, I wanted to give you this short story, which gives us a brief glimpse into the years after the Burning. I'm not charging for this post, since it's much smaller than a typical release, but I wanted to get something out.

Jesse

Well, I will be calling Ephrenia "Effie" from now on. :)

Very Interesting to see Pallisur’s perspective and his future sight. Seems like he can easily be led astray and blinded by his own ego and need for redemption.

Splutty

Any plans on making small background stories on all the "gods"?

ivyveritas

Not at the moment, but we'll see what happens. This particular story just leapt out to me, and I got inspired to write it. It's possible other stories will come to mind, but I don't have any others planned right now.

Aspiring Sage

So if Pallis has future sight, how did he not see his own death at the hands of Rasul?

Aspiring Sage

Another question, how come no one else could sense that Adrane was alive? Also presumably, Dekar is the cause of the zombies that our group faced when they first entered?

Pallisur isn't dead; he and Ephrenia just took over Northtower. You might be thinking of Leonis (Torwin Larse), who was killed by Rusol. Leonis was a warden, and was one of Pallisur's priests, but he wasn't Pallisur.

There are a couple possibilities for Ariadne that I haven't decided between yet. The most likely is that after Hera realized the other Mage Knights had died, she returned to Tir Yadar and hid Ariadne under a warded illusion, the same way she did for Ariadne's rune, and for the same reason (she was paranoid that the other wardens would consider her bonding someone to be interference with their plans). But then she eventually let that illusion lapse, which allowed Corec and Treya to realize she was still alive. The zombies were caused by Zachal's healing spell during the ritual. He tried to protect the people in the undercity (the level of Tir Yadar where they managed things like the water supply and the power collectors), but his spell mutated when it was hit by wild magic. I'll leave Dekar's fate up to the imagination ... but he's a half-insane storyteller being chased by two of the most powerful warrior-mages who've ever lived. The real purpose of the story is to show the state of the world after the Burning ends, and the reasons why Pallisur made the choices he made. This also marks the point in time where he'll come to be known as the God of War.

The Zombies are from the healing by one of the wardens being corrupted during the ritual. The human (pretty sure) warden came out of the ritual trance first and tried to heal the ones that were being hurt by the ritual during the ritual.

Aspiring Sage

Oh yes, I did forget that. Thank you for the clarification.

Aspiring Sage

Ahhh. Great. Sorry I am forgetting so many of the well-tuned internal elements over time. I really look forward to reading the whole series in one go once the last chapter is written and published. I do hope that creating audio books becomes viable for you. Have you had an opportunity to speak to other authors about their experience? I would recommend speaking to AlwaysRollsAOne if he takes direct messages.

Hey Ivy, see a light at the end of the tunnel yet? And if not, are you doing OK? :)

I'm still having a rough time with these chapters, but I think I'm starting to figure it out. I need to throw away some of the scenes I've already written, so I'm trying to salvage as much as I can. There's a chance I might be done by the end of the month, but I'm not ready to promise that because there are still a couple of critical scenes that haven't come together in my head yet.
