Hey folks,

You've probably noticed the chapters are later than usual. Sorry about that. I think they're finally starting to come together, but I still need a little longer. They probably won't be out by the end of the month. As always, I'll only charge you when I actually release something.

I feel I owe an explanation for the delay. I had written most of the first draft three months ago, but when I went back to read what I'd done, every single scene was bad. It's common to have one bad scene that needs to be rewritten or replaced, but it's never been every scene before. I wasn't sure what to do next, so that's why I put out the free short story instead of a normal release.

Since then, I've been trying to figure out how to rewrite the chapters. The stuff that happens in these chapters still needs to happen, but I needed to come up with completely new scenes to cover it all. So that's what I've been doing, spending days at a time thinking about how to replace each scene. And then after I come up with each idea, I can finally do a bit of writing.

And in all honesty, I've also been lazier than I should have been.

That brings us to early September, and suddenly I'm hit with a medical issue. No official diagnosis yet, but the most likely cause can be fixed with a simple, easy-to-recover surgery, plus a diet change. So that shouldn't be a major problem, but until I can get the diagnosis and surgery, I'll still be losing some time to it.

Anyway, I just spent three days trying to figure out how to make a new scene work, until it struck me that I can set it to happen at dawn, and that fixes the problems I was having with it. Now I have a direction I can go, so I'll start writing tomorrow and see if it actually works. If so, that's one more scene down, and closer to our goal.

No worries. Health should always come first. We can (impatiently) wait

I agree, just get better. And it's a little reassuring to find out that you have to actually put some effort into writing. :)

Take care of yourself first. We'll still be here when you are feeling better.

Thank you for the update. Looking forward to when you feel the next chapters are up to your amazing standard. In the meantime your openness is appreciated

Some good news - I've got a first draft, of sorts. It's very rough, so the editing process is going to take longer than usual. I normally need five days for drafts 2, 3, 4, and beta revisions, but this time I'll probably need ten. But it's coming. And by putting a timeline here, I'll hopefully push myself into meeting it.

Got a real first draft now, and ... a second draft! Maybe five more days? The end is in sight.

Third draft is off to the beta readers ...
