Hi, folks. Great news! I'm making good progress on the first release for Book 5. It'll have a faster turnaround time than my last few releases.

I'll finish the first draft tomorrow, then I'm going to take some time to revise a few small details about the end of Book 4 and get those changes out to you. Nothing major is going to change--just a few small tweaks to make the very end of the book (after the battle) more realistic. That shouldn't take long, and then I'll work on drafts 2, 3, and 4 of the new chapters. Unless something unexpected happens, you should receive the first few chapters of Book 5 no later than May 17th.

One more thing -- does anyone here do very simple CAD/floorplan work on commission, and is capable of sketching out a medieval fortress and keep (and maybe a bit of the surrounding area)? I don't need blueprints, just a very simple top-down black and white line diagram, but drawn to scale. My hand-made sketches aren't sufficient. If you do that sort of thing, or if you are aware of someone who does simple castle floorplans on commission, could you message me? Thanks!

Dracon

I’ve seen someone work for Tefler on his ship diagrams. Very nice clean basic work.

I put my own attempt at a sketch (not to scale) up in the on-topic-spoilers channel of our Discord server (if your Discord account is linked to your Patreon account, you should automatically be a member). I'm still seeing about getting a more accurate representation of the fortress, with the buildings correctly sized relative to each other.

Great to hear that we will get the next batch of chapters early, Ivy! Meanwhile, another question :-D The new Gods survived the ritual even though their mortal bodies died, because they ascended to the divine Realm. Thedan, Ephrenia and Ariadne survived the ritual, because a) The Stasis room did not collapse, so their mortal bodies were fine, and b) They were bonded to Wardens / New Gods, so they were effectively immortal as long as their Wardens lived. Is this right? If this is so, the question comes to: Who Freed Thedan and Ephrenia? and more importantly, why was Ariadne not freed? Could Ariadne be bonded to Hera? And like Corec, did Hera not know when she bonded Ariadne? Could Pallis and Arodi have freed their bondmates?

Let's see ... We don't know when Ariadne was bonded. We don't know why Thedan, Ephrenia, and Ariadne survived, and we don't know when the other Mage Knights actually died (whether it was during or immediately after the ritual, or later). And we don't know *why* they died but Thedan, Ephrenia, and Ariadne survived--it can't be due to immortality because, in relation to wardens and their bondmates, "immortality" really only refers to being immune to the passage of time ... which a stasis field would already accomplish. Since we don't know the answers to these questions, we can't really answer the others just yet.

Yeah, Raman, we can only make theoretical guesses based on info already shared in-story. For instance, we can guess that Pallis, Hera, and Zachal were the first to wake up due to their powers somehow. Then, we can guess that Pallis and Zachal, and Owl and Hera had a confrontation of some sort which resulted in the deaths of Zachal and Owl. Furthermore, we can speculate that something Zachal did during the fight caused Pallis’s recovery time to be longer than the others so as to prevent him from shaping the world following the Burning. Therefore, we can reasonably assume Thedan and Ephrenia were awakened by Arodi and the others, probably to open the first door into the palace. Given the library was absconded with, we could theorize that Allos was involved and has the tomes in his secret Mortal Realm laboratory we learned of through Badru. Unfortunately, like Ivy said there isn’t enough info to speculate on how the Mage Knights died or survived, and there is some anecdotal evidence suggesting Ariadne wasn’t Bonded until they arrived at Tyrsall. If so, the Bond couldn’t be the reason she survived.

Ahh, but remember Pallisur's exact words: "thanks to Zachal’s treachery, Pallisur had been slower than the others in recovering from the ritual." Slower to recover from the ritual, not from a fight. Which suggests ... something that might be answered sooner than you think ;)

Am speculating that Bobo is the new 8th Warden, Chosen by Fox. And he has bonded Ariadne without consent.

…well then, I’m not quite sure then how you are going to square that circle. When Arodisis and Pallisur spoke briefly, she asked him point blank why Zachal died and the others lived after the ritual. That suggests he perished before she and the others awoke. But, if the ritual killed him, that means Pallis INTENDED for it to happen and I’m pretty sure Allos would have seen such a change with his methodical approach. Maybe…the fight happened during the ritual? Then Pallis and Zachal could have changed things before it all fell apart, but that would be awkward with all the magic floating around…can’t wait to see what happens next…

And Then There Was None

Now we have the new prologue, it's interesting that Pallisur says "Zachal's treachery" this long after the ritual. It implies his knowledge of what happened hasn't changed since his first impression.
