Hi folks,

Here's the next batch of chapters. I hope you enjoy! Let me know if you have any feedback.

I'm moving in September, to the new apartment I mentioned a few months ago. There won't be a release in September. I'll do my best to get something out by the end of October, but the move might throw off that timeline.

A set of chapters with a lot of good emotional weight to them. Very nicely done. Queen Revana's send off was quite touching and her outlook of one final adventure brought to mind the tale Vilar told Shayleigh about her being an adventurer in her youth. I can't help but wonder if her anger with Ellerie had more than a little to do with jealously. Change is coming to Terevas, great change. Rusol continues to make mistake after mistake. I do wonder how much of these things are him either being shielded from the details due to the bureaucratic levels between him and the "ground troops" so to speak, him simply not caring about the details, or the Unblessed Priests rampaging on a power trip. I somewhat understood them singling out Kevik since he was the commander, but ostracizing all of them was a 40 yard dash too far. I am wondering if Trentin and maybe Cason are going to follow Georg getting out of Dodge. Sounds like Osbert can't read the way the winds are blowing. Also wondering about Sir Jesson learning an army is being sent after Corec. I figured Rusol sent Yassi's parents, but I wonder if he put them under his compulsion spell before he did so. I don't see Rusol not doing so personally but sending high profile compelled dignitaries to the Sanvari Empress' court would be a diplomatic disaster even though they were sent for Yassi. Yet I can just see Rusol doing it. Hopefully with all that has happened with the Zindari lately word of Yassi's arrival will make it from the Tribe (behind Yassi's back) to the Empress soon (for Yassi's sake). I still think Yelena will blow her top if she finds out what Rusol has done with the Warden Bonds. I remember her being very disapproving of Corec simply being unable to control the bonding spell in book two. I have often wondered if the modifications to the Warden Bond that Rusol did are protected by the permanence of the Warden Bond or if Treya or Bishop Lastal can use their Divine magic to rip that out of the bond. I guess we have a chance to find out with Sir Barat headed Treya's way (or with Yassi if Bishop Lastal made the trip with Yelena.) Still loving the progression on Nedley's story and that he was able to "save" his brother. Really loved Corec and Ellerie getting him new armor. I had been afraid the detail about him outgrowing the armor was going to be a Chekov's Gun for an impending death. Once again congrats on a good set of Chapters

Thank you Ivy for another great submission.

That's pretty close on Revana, but I would probably use the word resentful rather than jealous, given that the problem started before Ellerie was even born. Revana was a scholar and historian, like Ellerie, and an adventurer, like Ellerie. Her father died young (for an elf), and suddenly Revana had to deal with all these things that were supposed to be centuries away, far off in some nebulous future. And unlike Ellerie, she didn't have a sister to take over the load. Ellerie doesn't know all the history or the details, and she has different reasons for not wanting children, but she saw enough to realize that she was in danger of becoming just like her mother. (of course, she doesn't know about the dark magic spell book playing a role; she just reacted to the things she could understand)

Woot! I've been determinedly *not* reading the releases for a while now...long enough that I think I can start from the beginning anew and not remember everything...I'm so excited! Now to assemble all the releases into a single file... drat. Can't start a new line on mobile. Love the story, and good luck with your upcoming move!

Hello @Ivy! Great Set of Chapters! The story progresses a lot faster in these chapters! I've been rereading many of the earlier chapters and prologues, epilogues and interludes. Can you clear up some geographical confusion for me? 1) It looks like Aravor was discovered / settled after Cordaea was fully settled. So are Vestath and the original human settlements to the south of Aravor or Cordaea? or in between? 2) I originally thought Cordaea was roughly to the south east of Aravor. Would it be to the South east of North East of Aravor? If Cordaea is to the North East of Aravor, then how come the weather in Cordaea is much more moderate compared to the Storm Heights? If Cordaea is to the south east of Aravor, then how come the first port of landing for the Chosar is Lanport, and not Circle Bay or similar? 3) Since Ariadne mistakes Leena for a person of the Vestathi tribes when she first meets her, would Leena's ancestors come from Vestath? I'm guessing Vestath is to the south of Sanvar, and Sanvar is to the south of Terevas. And since the human tribes first came north (after which they met elves for the first time), humans first originated in Vestath, and elves originated in Cordaea / Aravor? Could you clear this up for me?

1. An early ancestor of both humans and elves evolved in the continent of Vestath. During an ice age, one branch of that ancestral line crossed a land bridge north to the continent of Cordaea. That branch eventually became the elves, while humans continued to evolve in Vestath. Long before the elven/human split, the ogres/snowbeasts split off from an even earlier ancestor, and followed the same process but in northern Aravor. Lizardfolk evolved separately in southern Aravor. One branch of humans learned to build primitive ships and sailed north to Cordaea, encountering the elves for the first time. Those two groups, working together, made a lot of advancements and eventually created the Chosar, who would then sail west to attempt to claim Aravor. 2. Cordaea is east of Aravor, but remember that we only saw the middle/southern part of Cordaea. We didn't see the northern part of Cordaea, which stretches closer to Aravor (and thus why the Chosar colonists reached Lanport first). Vestath is south of both Cordaea and Aravor. 3. After the Burning, a separate branch of humanity from Vestath settled in southern Aravor, reaching the continent with the aid of the Travelers. That knowledge has been lost to time, but that's the first reason why the Zidari hold special status in Sanvar (the second reason being that they formed a good relationship with the lizardfolk who were already there, allowing the first wave of settlers to arrive peacefully; the wars started later, initiated by some of the other Sanvari clans who wanted to claim more land than the lizards were willing to part with). The dwarves arrived later, claiming land that was completely unsettled, but that both the lizardfolk and humans considered to belong to them, and that's why Sanvar is often in the middle of a three-way war. The war is more of a habit at this point.

Ivy, those were amazing questions and even better answers. Will you be publishing a compendium of the world's history at some point so that we are not dependant on great questions to suss out these details? I am in awe that you had all those answers at your fingertips and even more interested in one day being able to read whatever notes you have on the history you have created. Thank you!

Also, Does the sun in this world rise from West to East?

ivyveritas

I'm not sure what I'm going to do about writing up the history. There's a lot that isn't defined because it doesn't come up in the story. I do want to at least put together a basic timeline at some point, though I'll probably wait until the story is over because it's got one or two more little spoilers.

ivyveritas

The sun rises in the east. I think I've got that set up correctly based on the distances between the continents and the differences in the times of day when Leena teleports between Tir Yadar and Sanvar. I hope, anyway.

Aspiring Sage

Ivy, is it too early to ask for an estimate for the release of the next chapters?

ivyveritas

I'm still hoping for end of October, but it's too soon to guarantee that yet.

Aspiring Sage

Hey Ivy. Just wanted to check in to see how the next set of chapters are progressing.

ivyveritas

End of October doesn't seem very likely at this point, but I've made it past a spot that's been slowing me down, so hopefully things will go more smoothly now.

Status Update: I won't be able to get the next release out by the end of the month, but I do think I can finish the first draft by then, which would put the Patreon release on track for November 6th. I'll do my best to meet that timeline.

Aspiring Sage

Thanks for the update Ivy. Looking forward to reading it.

ivyveritas

Another update: Hey, folks, I'm going to need just a few more days. I've finished the third draft, but there are a couple things I'm not happy with and I want to rework them. Also, there's one scene I've been struggling with and haven't finished writing yet. I think I've got a way to make it work now, but I'll need time to actually finish it. So, that means: finish the one scene, do a more in-depth fourth draft than usual (fourth draft is usually the easy one), and then get the chapters to the beta readers for their review (I try to give them two days). So instead of the 6th, it'll be the 8th or 9th? Sorry about the delay, but it's better to get the chapters right than to get them fast.

ivyveritas

Haha. It'll be later tonight (Pacific time), so no sense refreshing right now. There's a small chance it'll be tomorrow, but I think I'm on track for tonight.

Ricardo Miguel Pereira da Silva

No prob. Finished 2nd re read earlier today. Realy amazing work with Terevas. And just a side note. Is the strip club still open for business?

Jesse

LOL

ivyveritas

According to the timeline I used when writing Silver Street Strip Club, Darin opened the larger building in April of 2019, going deeply into debt as a result, and needing another two months of income just to pay for things like back-office furniture. But that still gives him eight months of income to build up a rainy day fund before everything shuts down for COVID. I'd like to think he's a savvy enough businessman to shepherd the club through the down times, possibly renegotiating his loan repayment terms. The club is located in a state that changed its unemployment rules so that self-employed workers could take advantage of it, so in theory, the dancers that had been reporting taxable income would be able to get unemployment. Many of the dancers also would have likely switched to camming while the club was closed. In my mind, Emma and the kitchen crew put together a Doordash menu (a ghost kitchen, so they could have more family-friendly branding) so that they could keep working through the shutdown--basically turning the club into a restaurant until they were allowed to re-open. Darin would have had some difficult months, but mostly only because he took out such a huge loan at what turned out to be a bad time. In the city I based it on, very few clubs or restaurants went out of business during COVID, and Darin's smarter than the average business owner. So I'm going to say they still had a happy ending.

ivyveritas

Okay, I didn't quite finish tonight (Thursday). It's after midnight and a bunch of college students are singing at the top of their lungs and I can't concentrate. I've just got that one difficult scene left--I'm revising it yet again after feedback from beta readers. I'll get back into it first thing tomorrow (Friday).

Jesse

You know I am going to have fun figuring out which scene caused so much difficulty.
