Hi folks,

Here's the finale to Book 5. I hope you enjoy, and please let me know if you have any feedback.

I need a short break before I start on Book 6 so I can outline it, and I need to edit some of the other books so I can get them published.

During that break, I'll post the Book 5 epilogue as a bonus scene (I just didn't have time to finish it for this release), plus I'll post a few behind-the-scenes things on various topics.

UPDATE: I fixed four spots where I mixed up Tyrsall and Telfort. Thanks to the folks who caught it and pointed it out. To get the revised files, download them  below. (The links in the email notification will continue pointing to the old version instead.)

TY :-) Loved the last Rusol chapter!!! Chaos incoming ❤️ FYI I think a number of Tyrsall was supposed to be Telfort

Nice set of chapters. Enjoyed watching the various interactions of Rusol's Bondmates. Wonder if Odwins and Rudolf are going to get their turn. I really enjoyed the Parley. You could see the way Barat was manipulating things. Really glad to see that sort of agency from one under a compulsion bond. Seeing some of Snake's thinking was really good. Especially showing the Totems hadn't figured out their full powers prior to the Wardens ascending. A minor mistake I noticed. Page 10 has Corec mentioning Barat being stationed at Tyrsall. I believe that should be Telfort.

Great stuff, as always. An impressive victory for Corec and his allies, though he did have the advantage of facing a demoralised foe led by a self-sabotaging commander. Even so, it's bound to make his prestige skyrocket. As for the Rusol chapter, it's good to see his life falling apart - and I HAD wondered how he was able to control Magnus. I suppose that answers that, haha. Seeing Snake's perspective for the first time was another highlight - and a bit of Zidari drama that doesn't drag out was an entertaining way to start the batch. I can't say I'm surprised that the relationship pretzel is causing some friction.

I fixed the spots where I wrote Tyrsall when I should have written Telfort. You can download the updated files above. Thanks to the folks who caught it!

Loved this ending. Can't wait to see where it goes from here

Great set of Chapters, Ivy! So many questions! 1) Since we know that Wolf has been reborn / reincarnated (Dont know what word to use here), is it safe to assume that Deer and Eagle will also get reborn? and will Owl (killed by Hera) also get reborn? Are there any specific conditions for the rebirth? 2) Can Divine powers can banish the compulsion that Rusol had introduced into the Warden bond? This seems like Divine powers can overcome the magic of the Collision itself? 3) Magnus turning on Rusol and furthering his own agenda (or Hera's agenda) of weakening Pallisur's Order is a nice twist. Hera's blessing to Corec about getting the best bondmates seems like a great blessing. A warden's strength comes from his bondmates. While Corec's bondmates seem to have united around him, Rusol's bondmates are looking to desert him. Yassi, Sir Barat and Magnus are not under his compulsion anymore. Kolvi seems to have some ability to withstand the compulsion. One bondmate is dead. Pallisur's plans for another ritual using 8 wardens seem to be in ruins. 4) One new god that we have not heard directly from is Allosur. Is he supportive of Pallis? How many other wardens will not participate in the ritual? Safe to say Corec, Shayliel, Hildra and Yelena will not participate. Leonis is dead. 5) Snake's agenda seems to be to kill the wardens. Is this because he wants to undo the collision? When will we learn about the history of why he is estranged from his brothers? 6) Do the gods regenerate their power when they are worshipped by people? We learn that Pallis used every bit of his power to fashion some robes and a mortal body for himself? They expend power in various ways, but how do they generate it? Even demons seem to expend power to cross over to the mortal realm, but how do they generate power? only the passage of time? or something else?

1. I would phrase it as 'Wolf's mind was restored'. It's possible the same thing could happen for Deer and Eagle. What happened to Owl is different, though. 2. Treya and Lastal cleaned the compulsion from the warden bonds, but they didn't remove the bonds themselves. 5. We might still learn something more about that. 6. The gods don't regenerate power from worshippers (though that's a philosophy that some scholars believe, and Fox fell for it at one point because he didn't know why else his brothers were dying). Like all mages, the gods' amount of available power can be measured in three different ways--their overall capacity, the amount of that capacity that they can spend on any one spell, and how much capacity is left before they need to rest or take a break. When Demea says that choosing a priest "takes something out of you," she's referring to overall capacity. The more priests a god chooses to distribute their power to, the less overall power that god has for themselves, and that power doesn't regenerate over time (well, maybe if a priest dies; I haven't decided), but the new gods' capacity has increased over time, so they can choose more priests now than they could back when they were new. But when Pallis crosses the boundary between worlds, crafts a mortal body for himself, and then creates a robe to wear, all those things come out of his active power for the day, and all of them take a lot of power (the robe only takes a lot of power because he's in the mortal world; creating things in the totemic world is much easier). That type of power does regenerate fairly quickly, though I'd venture to say that when he's in the mortal world, and especially when he's in a mortal body, his total capacity is likely diminished.

Question: Since Fox represents Cunning, Owl was Wisdom, Raven Knowledge, Bear Courage, Wolf Discovery, and Snake being Deception, have you assigned what Deer and Eagle represent?

ivyveritas

Deer is Love, Eagle is Nobility. Wolf is really 'Discovery through Exploration', but I can't think of a single word for that so it gets translated to Discovery or Exploration in English, depending on context. Some of the others are likely more nuanced concepts as well. For example, Deer wouldn't really have any concept of romantic love, but would be more about familial love.

voyage? journey? odyssey?

Awesome series Ivy!!! These books are my go-to on my iPad. I'm fairly certain I've re-read Book 1 at least 20 times. Any hint on when you will be previewing the cover for Book 6? Hopefully its more a teaser rather than a spoiler :)

ivyveritas

I haven't started the process for the Book 6 cover yet. I had an idea in mind for the last few years, and then I finally realized it was a bad idea, so now I've got to go back to the drawing board. Best pairing is probably Corec and Rusol, but the designer would have to check whether the model we used for Corec's face in Book 1 has other photo sets with different looks. It wasn't something we considered at the time. And I haven't figured out how to make Rusol's identity obvious from his description. The cover designer has also raised the price for creating custom character models, so this one's going to be more expensive than the others.
