PLEASE BE AWARE OF THE Trigger Warning IF THE Trigger Warning of Pregnancy Loss applies to you!

I'm sorry about having not been great about tagging this in some previous posts.

I take these topics seriously, and I apologize for the lack of tagging up until now. My cousin almost lost her life in a situation like this, and her dream of having children is now permanently jeopardized from the health consequences of it, so I have a sense of how this can be terribly difficult for someone to go through and why the trigger warnings can matter. I'll try to do better with putting warnings in the future.

****

Hello everyone,

Sorry for all the posts lately,

Since many of you asked about similar matters:

Just wanted to walk you through the latest feature I made to add to the AddOn 7 (pregnancy Loss) and inquire about your feedback if any. It took me a bit of time to decide exactly what I wanted to do regarding the unborn sim children and how to represent them in the world after a miscarriage. But today I finally found exactly how I wanted to do this and made it. I didn't want to do the exact same thing other mods do, and I wanted it to feel more like gameplay and show more the emotional permanence of a lost pregnancy. So this is my compromise, it's small in the game, and I hope it will give more depth to your sims' experiencing of this tragic event:

- So, the lost pregnancy will result in an urn added to inventory and labeled for an Unborned Child. From the urn, the Sim can name the unborn child, mourn, write an epitaph.

The Sim also initially appears the same way in the family tree (unless you use the extra option to disable family tree integration).

If your Sim decides to name the child, a window to type the name appears:

Once it has been named, the urn and the family tree will both reflect the addition of the name.

Since this involves messing with the family tree, I want it well-tested before giving it to you all (I am not expecting issues since the code for this is very similar to code I have in the adoption module and which has proven to be stable, but I like to be careful). If you want to test it, you can let me know on the Patron's channel on discord and I'm happy to share!

I will strive to make the 'pretty and official' release post for the v2.7 update as soon as possible (because the current post is a bit of a mess) and write the documentation, but in the meantime do feel free to ask any question! The info isn't fully written up out there yet so I'm happy to answer you!

A good day / night,Lumpinou

This is a very difficult topic, but I think this is a sensitive and loving way to add it to the game

Crazygirl11683

So, I just add it to the mod if I want my Sims to have miscarriages?

lumpinou

Sorry, can you reformulate the question, I am not sure I fully understand

Crazygirl11683

What I mean is, do I have to re-download the mod to add this update once you're finished?

Crazygirl11683

So, will I have to re-download it again, tomorrow?

lumpinou

No you don't have to. It's perfectly fine as it is. People who want the added feature can re Download whenever convenient to them, or not at all

lumpinou

There was no reason to hold up an entire feature release when I wasn't even sure if I was going to do anything re the family tree etc or decide to stay out of it. Now I've made the choice and made the feature so I will add it in because there would be no point otherwise haha. But miscarriage features are fine as existing in the release post at this very second

Crazygirl11683

So, the answer to my question is both yes and no?

lumpinou

The version you have now has miscarriages. They work. You don't have to re download. There's more features on the way on the same theme, as described above. You might choose to re download when they come out, or not, I'm not the one in power to make that decision :)

Monica

I like how you have it set up so we can name our babies we lost instead of not being able to name our own child. I miscarried in game and it was a girl. When I went to the family tree, her name was Lea. Its a pretty name, but I wanted to be able to name her. So....thank you!

Samantha Coville

Sorry if this is a question that is answered elsewhere, I couldn't find it. Will there be a way to A) set a fertility percentage (like I really want to have a family who struggles with fertility issues, can I set low odds) and B) trigger a miscarriage for storyline purposes like through a cheat? Amazing work with all of your modding!

lumpinou

Hi there! There has been ways to set fertility rate per sim for a long time in this mod. You can still do it, in fact, Sims now by default get different rates from each other. You can of course also modify them manually. If you want all of them to get the same default rate and then change it manually for some Sims to something else that is also possible through an option file. And there is a cheat to manually trigger a miscarriage under 'family and Pregnancy' then 'status'

angel rondeau

i dont think ive ever loved a mod more???

Brooke Scott

Omg thank you! I lost my first baby at 21 weeks. This is amazing ❤️

lumpinou

So sorry this happened... Feel free to et me know if there's anything in any text etc you think I handled badly in the mod - always happy to consider adjustments to better respect reality

Vee Why

Thank you so much for this i hope there's a rainbow baby feature added too

Plumb

Hi. Yes, sensitive topic, but then, that's life isn't it, it's filled with sensitive topics. It's ridiculous for creators to have to warn folks that they might see realistic loss using this mod, when the purpose of the mod is in fact to insert some realism. For the record, without any warnings at all, I will still download your truly fantastic mods that fill the realism void that exists in game. We do not accept your apology because you don't owe an apology to anyone. Good job with these. I'm truly thankful for you!

Shekinah Sims (formerly Hot Mess Simmer)

Yes she does. If someone doesn't know this module exists and have recently had a miscarriage, that is VERY triggering. The trigger warning is to let them know it might be a good idea to skip that post. Losing a child is very traumatic.

Kristel

I saw the TW and skimmed passed the post quickly, as I cannot read the details of this mod. I came into the comments to say thank you for the TW and saw your very insensitive comment, Plumb. I sincerely hope that you never need find out what it's like to need this TW.

LadyCSims4Content

Omg thank you so much for this! One of my sims had a miscarriage and the game named the baby with a name that I don't like and it's impossible to change it. Since then I've been looking for a mod that would let me name the unborn babies. Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you!!!!!!! You're so amazing!!!

Plumb

It is very traumatic. I very much agree. That's common ground for us. Death is very traumatic generally speaking, and it's something many, many of us have experience in our lives - the death of a loved one, no matter the age. However, you don't need a trigger warning to watch movies in the event that a character dies, and I view downloading mod content as very similar. As an aside, I can feel sorrow for those who suffer and at the same time believe that not everything in life needs a trigger warning.

Plumb

Kristel, I feel sincerely sad that you are unable to read the details of the post, and that's simply because I'm human and so are you. At the same time, I can hold the view that content creators, who are also human, do not owe us an apology merely because we've stumbled upon a post that might upset us. If it upsets us, we need to have the emotional resilience to identify the personal upset early on, and then stop reading or downloading to avoid the upset, without demanding emotional warnings be posted every where we decide to step in life.

lumpinou

Please let us not get into a fight over this :) (I appreciate you all discussing politely so far). TWs etc don't exist culturally where I'm from - the only things ever tagged are violence and sex - but they seem to be common practice on the American / international internet - so I try to pick it up for the sake of people who expect them and would be at a loss to encounter something they didn't expect - it costs me nothing to throw in - nobody complained to me to make me do it or anything :) . As for the psychology value of TWs etc, we all have our right to our opinions on this, and the professional field certainly does have very varying opinions - but I don't want this post to become the battlefield for solving differences of opinion, so we can all go on with our own thoughts on it and we don't need to convince each other, if you are all OK with that :) The warning seemed to help someone above, so, I will continue with these. I really don't want to cause anyone pain, sadness or ptsd trigger :(

lumpinou

Thanks! I agree I would not want a random name either. It's not the game that names the baby automatically, but whatever mod did the miscarriage, it's coded this way. Yes I am kind of proud of this one to be honest. I don't often feel proud of my work but on this tiny thing, I think I did the code setup decently ehe

Carla Jamison

Plumb I know you're not being insensitive. I'm a seasoned Sims player and recently in January lost my 3 yr old son. So for mods of this type I really appreciate the warning.

Plumb

I'm truly sorry for that loss, Beauties. Words are never adequate for losses like this, and they always sound trite. No, I'm not being insensitive, and I appreciate you noticing that. I hope healing and peace continue to find you.

Plumb

Here in the Americas right now, it's a true gift when someone can separate their feelings of appreciation for something from their feelings of entitlement to that same something. I'm sorry for any tensions, Lumpinou. I'm moving on from here! Thank you again for the hard work on all these wonderfully realistic mods! Much love!

Plumb

Sounds like you needed a trigger warning before being exposed to opinions other than your own. Shame.

Plumb

By the way, I believe your ranting and name calling may very well amount to technical bullying here, as prior to your rant, most comments were quite well contained, and managed to avoid the type of aggressive behavior you've displayed.

Temesha Hostetler

I like how you have chosen to handle this. Your approach is very respectful and sensitive. Beautiful job with a difficult subject.

skye

hey lumpinou, i was just wondering if there is a way to increase the chance of misscarrige ?

Cary R

This is so very well done.

Plumb

First, let's side bar here to note that your entire rant presupposes the TW doesn't personally apply to me, rather than entertain the possibility that it does, and that despite this, I'm still of the opinion that neither creators, nor others, are responsible to warn me of "triggers" that I should already know exist. Second, be that as it may, thanks for the DM invite, but I'd rather keep this conversation public, so as to continue to develop the evidence of your clearly insensitive and bullying comments towards me, and obvious unhinged state. Lastly, as I'd like to respect Lumpinou's request to avoid further escalation, this will be my last response. Regards.

lumpinou

Increasing the health riskiness of pregnancy metric for a sim is a way to influence it. The higher that is, the higher the chances. As of now other than that there is no way to flat out modify it but could add something in, as I am adding a way to make Sims immune to it. But the riskiness metric is still going to affect it for sure

Everlie

I'm sorry if you answered this already. but is there a certain thing your sim has to do so that miscarriage is less likely? I love the realism that miscarriages can happen but i dont want it to happen to every one of my sims. Maybe im thinking of how your sims can react to pregnancy and how you can make your sim either accept or reject the pregnancy and how you gotta do certain things to make them accept it.

lumpinou

I'll add the 'immune to miscarriage' thing tomorrow when I add the rest of the new stuff yes. For now, put 'riskiness of pregnancy' at 1 and it will help or take out the add on :)

Everlie

Thank you so much for the response, I absolutely love you and your mods so much. Your my #1 modder, I just want you to know how much i appreciate everything that you do for us. And all the hard work you do for this game, modding cant be easy especally with how funky this game is set up.

Mrs.D

Love these mods!!! Keep them coming please and thank you!

REALysticMystic

So if you can add "immune to miscarriage" then would you be willing to add options about abortion that interacts with the sims character? Like kind of like the pregnancy wishes, but instead add: pro-life, pro-choice, neutral, pro-life protester, pro-choice protester?

REALysticMystic

Maybe even add a clinic for women only, where you can go with your Sim.

lumpinou

The immune thing is just putting the health riskiness of pregnancy at 0, it's more a cheat than gameplay really haha. What you are talking about is more about abortion, and I don't know how far I want to get political with things tbh. I do have various reactions and judgments in my abortion module, that the s'il can experience, but I don't know really how far into political debates I want to get. I try to avoid that as a rule but I don't know yet if I could include more of that without entering these political realms.

REALysticMystic

I totally understand! It was just an idea for more realistic game play but maybe it's a bit.

Patrick Meakins

hey idk if i skimmed past the answer but is there a timeline on when this module will be released and if a sim has a miscarriage is there higher chance for the next pregnancy?

lumpinou

Miscarriages have been released last Wednesday and the update containing the features shown in this post, I released earlier today. Check the v2. 75 release post listed in the index

lumpinou

And yes there is a higher chance to miscarry after previous miscarriages

Patrick Meakins

omg ive been waiting and its been released thanks so much love ur mods and realism it adds

moonlightsimmer

Hi Lumpinou. Do the fertility risks also apply to elder sims who can get pregnant or are they automatically infertile because of old age? Also for the future, can birth control have a percentage to not be completely effective since it’s unrealistic to prevent pregnancy every time? Just thought I’d put it on your radar. Thanks.

lumpinou

Birth control and condoms have, since the beginning of the mod, had a 5% failure rate. For the other question, the answer is yes and no. Elders can have the fertility risk. They are just auto assigned very low levels. But for now I have not made them able to get pregnant. Why? Because they can't in game default. This means that I must make it an option and not a default, which in this case means I have to do some extra stuff that I haven't done yet. So, we are halfway there, but not quite

Amelia Empson

can someone help me... i have donloaded the mods but they are not shwing up in my game

Simslegacy

Experienced my first miscarriage with your mod and just wow. I love LMS and had used her mod for years. It did the job but what you have created with this is truly heartbreaking. The care and thought you put into the buffs, its impossible to ignore the pain and sadness. I also love having the urn/tombstone, in this playthrough my legacy cemetery is in the backyard and it was lovely to be able to add this tombstone to the rest. I'm sure it doesn't help that this is a baby in game I personally very much wanted. These gals weren't making it easy, I ultimately had to use a sisters pregnancy to engineer a whole baby fever storyline so I could justify updating preferences on them for an insemination attempt. I mean its a legacy challenge, childless isn't really a viable choice. The baby was a boy which is exactly what I wanted for the next Gen. Now I'm back to the waiting game, giving them time to grieve before trying again and hoping for another blue outcome. Anyway great work, as always - just had to let you know.

lumpinou

Sorry, hadn't seen this message before - if mods aren't showing up, it's an installation problem. Did you ever figure it out?

lumpinou

Thank you so much for your comment. I worked hard on this and tried to give it an emotional weight for our Sims... I am glad that you found it well done, means a lot to me. I hope your Sims will have better luck next time and succeed in continuing their legacy!
