One more page left in this long and strange and revelatory scene; then we'll go see if there's any spark of hope left in all this darkness.I do creep on comments and it's funny to always see readers waiting for Ilganyag to betray people. She's promising First Sette life again here - Jacaranda too - and she does seem terribly sincere. If anything, it's First Sette who seems very ready to dole out love in exchange for exactly what she wants. Could Lady Ilganyag have been all this time just trying to win her first daughter's affection and forgiveness?

Anyway, Sette Frummagem is f*cked.

RIP Sette. Long live Sette!

Come on Jacaranda, pull some Sette Ex Machina shit and go be happy with your sister! Don't let her suffer just to be a twin sacrifice :(

Well, Shaensigin does call her the Betrayer Bird, and Nana had her story. It’s no wonder we’re expecting a wee bit of betrayal!

Plucky Pariah

As long as I've been a reader, I've never seriously entertained the thought of Sette Frummagem ever exiting this story before these last few pages. Now I'm deeply afraid.

No ma'am I don't like this one bit.

Michael Stakely

Ilganyag seems like the type to deliver what she promises as not necessarily what the recipient expects but how she interprets that desired gift.

I’m goin nutso over here, man. I can’t stand it, my heart hurts so much for Sette. Our Sette Frummagem. Our wonderful girl. I have to believe in her- she deserves at least that.

Ladile

Feeling bad for poor Jac, stuck between a rock and a hard place. Dark Sette is his birth sister and he obviously loves her, but I wonder if he sees Our Sette as a sibling too, in a way?

So we know what happens to our Sette as soon as Ilganyag gets her power. Also grown... older? So Sette can actually grow (assuming she doesn't just die here)? Seems like all the others were killed around the same age. Granted, that could just mean developing better claws like First Sette has. And... Duane? Ilganyag seems to imply that he's still around in some form, when earlier she implied Sette killed him. Maybe she can use her power to get him back

If I’m Khette, I’m not sure I want to be fixed the same way Murkoph was, all shot up with Lady I’s silver

Hey, so… random question because I’m apparently incapable of keeping track of these things, but… who is that dude yelling at Jacaranda?

Oh... somehow I didn't think that soulswapping would mean supplanting the 'ghost' currently piloting the flesh mecha, but of course! Phew. Poor Frummagem. But poor Sette #1 too, and even poor Sessine a little. I like it when villains are nonetheless trying to do a thing they think is right, or at least something they want so desperately it's indistinguishable from a need. It makes for such a tragic puddle.

SET

"revelatory" 🥴

And also: Jivi is Jacaranda. There. It’s ridiculous, but I’ve said it.

"it's funny to always see readers waiting for Ilganyag to betray people". The easiest way to see through the schemes and lies is to just assume Ruffles' Nana was right about everything she said. Because Nanas are always right about everything. Especially that thing about "if you eat on the toilet you feed the devil". So yeah, betrayer bird.

forlornfoe

Waiting for Knock-me-down to be so obnoxious she finally gets Ana's attention and throws enough of a spanner into Betrayer Bird's plans that they show their true intentions to Best Sette.

I have to question since I don't think i'll come up. How many Sette's even make it past the birthing stage? If they reincarnate into random people how many people just kill her for being a freak abomination on the spot?

akrasia

Maybe the child of the king, the first soul, and she who can command the dead, will not roll over and die on demand. Maybe others will have to abide her command?
