Is Karl's involvement with General Bell public knowledge, or was him being one of the traitors something that was kept on the down low to avoid embarrassing the nobility (or maybe everyone who found out is just dead now)? If it is generally known, I feel extra bad for Emne. Even if she does kinda suck as a person, it must be especially hard to be desperately worried for someone who everyone will now side-eye you for caring about.
