I am so happy you're enjoying this to the point of taking notes! I was going to explain the vase thing with Hongniang last episode, but I saw your reply before I wrote my comment on episode 2 and like I couldn't be a hypocrite like that after what I'd just said XD. So, while I was not expecting that you'd rewatch the first two episodes, I am glad you realised what was going on there. The Xiao nickname mentioned is used as the equivalent of the -chan honourific, though I have no clue how accurate that is for Chinese names. Xiao means small, so Xiaomao is small cat, or kitten. This is also why the princess is sometimes called Xiaoling instead of Lingli. For Xiaolan I think that's just what she's named though. Good catch on the officer being the same as last episode. Had to have that one pointed out to me. We also saw Fuyou in bits of episode 2, but she wasn't like named or doing anything.

I'm glad I was able to realize the vase thing on my own, I felt a bit foolish when I realized. 😂

To be fair, you didn't have all the context of how the kidnapping situation worked the first time around.
