For timeline, I've been using snow to mark the winters. We've got some in the first episode, then at the end when she was fired and went home and the song, and then this episode starts mentions it being spring again, so that's at least two full years in this season. As I understand it, the blue roses represent something that is beautiful but unobtainable. Them not existing is kinda the point there. They mentioned back at the start of the season that Gyokuyou had two attempted poisonings while she was pregnant with Lingli. If not telling people keeps her even a smidgen safer, you keep it as much a secret as you can.
