Is there a skill that allows Halgrave to push Temerity without simply crushing the ship/crumpling the hull at point of application?

James Heskett

Rain died a true hero's death, looking forward to seeing who becomes the next protagonist!

Uroš

They probably worked something out together with Tallheart

Uroš

Are we at another "three cliffs" point in the story, except it's going to be 20 cliffs again? :(

Sean McClain

One skill point, in side the whale so he can't miss. Is it time for Rain to actually, finally, get a honey to God target spell? Something that lets him channel his entire and endless mana reserves into. After all it might be a higher 'zone' inside a 40+ level creature.

Conor McGroarty

Will Rain pull a Jonah (or maybe Geppetto and Pinocchio) and be a parasite in the whale? He can get a lot of essence inside and survive for quite some time as long as he has air. Will any of his auras give him air or help him make it? Perhaps purify will turn all the gas in the stomach into breathable air. He can freeze the contents of the stomach to make stable land to be able to get into his soul while also preventing him from going further down the digestive system. If he is lucky, he may be able to kill an essence monster from in the whale (maybe whale will eat essence monster and Rain can guide it safely to stomach for him to kill) when it dives back down which will open more options with increased level cap and skill points (getting the seasons, especially Fall for food and water need assuming he doesn’t scavenge what it eats). Biggest issue is getting out of the Whale and crossing the ocean. He has detection anchors on ship plus the radiance Morse code so he can find them and communicate. Worst comes to worst he can just jog/jump while making icebergs. The more I analyze this the more I think that this was exactly what he needs (though not wants) to shelter his mind and fix his soul. Doubt Vatreece ever expected there would be someone stupid enough to solve essence issue by getting eaten by a monster like a Whale. “A Whale I see? Just the right essence-rich environment for me to complete my secluded training arc and solve that pesky time mental time bomb!”

Conor McGroarty

What do you think Rain will name the Whale 🐋 🐳 as he spends time in its stomach? Will he call it Moby Dick or perhaps Monstro after Pinocchio? Maybe he will just call it “big fish” and not attach any special significance to it?

Conor McGroarty
>>103344641

Most likely he is going to spend his time in this Whale’s stomach (using refrigerate to make land in there and purify for air). An ideal training place to fix his soul with lots of essence. Though Vatreece never anticipated the stupidity of getting swallowed by a monster as a viable training area.

Arhin

Well, now it's a description of battle I like much more! Potential [>] 946 kESS Potential [>] 945 MESS Is it kilo or mega? Could not Rain reach to Ameliah with Velocity? I meant, was not Ameliah in the radius of Rain's Velocity? If so, he could accelerate her flight.

Conor McGroarty
>>103345154

Doubt it would have worked. But his anchors are still on Temerity so he will be able to communicate and find them after his training arc is over. Getting eaten is exactly what he needs to survive. He will even get another nickname from getting eaten alive by a Whale as a low silver and surviving. He may even come back with a higher cap instead of just a fixed soul.

PA-JO

Thanks for the chapter. Honestly whenever you update it makes me excited because the story is so good!

Marwolaeth

Oooooh, time for Rains training arc! He can take off the armor and actually level prismatic intent, he can fix his soul, he can fix his potential issues inside his soul! Excellent, except he did also get eaten in front of poor Amelia

Zarik0

Ok :P Make me think, did we have problem for flying/aerial travel? similar to whale? or even them too (they can fly into air?) Because it seem really that sea travel is really shit, so i question if they not developped/have plane or dirigible thing similar, or magic shit for travel by air instead of sea who seem way more problematic to do (as far as i know, we have zero info about air travel aspect or etc) find it a bit strange

Davis Bradford
>>103345869

They can't use ANY magic over the depths of the ocean because the whales hunt magic sources. If non-magical flight was invented then travel across the oceans would definitely be easier.

Chapter 231- cliffhanger

Uroš

Is there like a super patreon I can sub to to get a dozen more chaptes?

Monomatopoeia

Twice, twice... It has been twice!

payforthat

Hmm, reverse purify so the whale spits him out? Or maybe the inside of the whale has high enough essence to go beyond the damage limit?. Mind you damage limit works both ways

Cirvante

@SS Typo: the first essence blue box shows potential in kESS and the second one in MESS.

Vincent Sloan

Trying to learn to embrace the cliff

Ricky Kukowski

I want to vote meh. I liked the chapter well enough but dislike that it feels like the next chapter will bring in alternate perspectives again.

Cirvante

I really liked the ice-bouncing Rain used this chapter. Very creative use of his skills and macros. Now he just needs to figure out some form of aerial mobility.

Ziggy

#Bug_Report The first window for force ward shows it costing over 2 mana per damage at 120% and 0 meters. The second window, after saying he dials it up, shows the exact same numbers except the cost goes down to around 0.3 mana. Not sure which aspect of the spell you were saying he ramped up, but those two windows are definitely wonky.

13thZygrite
>>103353942

He's changing the proportion of the time Force ward is active in his ward rotation. If he sets the tick rate lower than 1sec it just shows up in the card as a higher mana cost I believe, so it's just him switching it to using up most of the tick for that PI slot.

SecretsOfTheVoid
>>103352665

I'm wishing for a dual perspective chapter. One from Amelia as she gets short coded messages from Rain's anchor. And one from Rain's perspective as he sorts out his fleshy vacation environment.

Philippe Boulanger

Is anyone else expecting Rain to dig himself in or out of the whale soul?

Matthijs Bartelink

Couldn't inverse purify maybe help get Rain out of this? At the very least it might've helped to discourage the whale if he thought of it earlier.

Loipers

Purify all the food out of the whale's body, and Winter up all its essence. Starve the beast!

L Pedersen

So I didn't leave a comment when I voted on this, I took some time to think about it. Either this gets resolved in the next chapter, Rain thinks of something or the rest of ascension does. Or he's gonna spend a a while/ a few chapters inside the stomach of the whale. In the first instance this just feels like a dick move, a cheap emotional strike. If him getting eaten by a whale won't have long term impact than why do it? In the second case we've had something like this happen before when the watch braced Velika and got slaughtered. Rain spent quite a few chapters being a non entity without agency, probably my least favorite part of this story so far. I just can't help but feel that it would have been better to avoid this all together and not have Rain get eaten by a whale and then end the chapter. I will say that I prefer the first instance of the second one since the big issue here is that you have to wait a week to find out anything, if I could just turn the page and read on then this cliffhanger wouldn't feel like such a punch in the nuts. Oh well, I hope SS puts on his robe and wizard hat and writes something awesome.

LaughingCoyote
>>103371538

I'm enjoying this very much and I don't think this was a "cheap move" at all. The danger and significance of Whales has been built up over time - if anything having Temerity and Rain manage oceanic travel without dealing with a big obstacle like Whales and other sea monsters would have been whats "cheap".

Elaborate

Hm, if he purchased Impediment, would it impede the Whale's chewing? Would Discombobulate do sufficient MP damage to cause hallucinations? Probably the Whale's soul is tough enough to resist, though. The sad part is that if normal physics were in play, Rain would be the Whale's kryptonite. Auras affect a huge volume. Whales *occupy* a huge volume. But that's all irrelevant since an attack gets resolved as hitting a single entity... Hmmmm. Mlem's Skipping Stone. Yes, that would have been ideal for Rain to have in this situation. Assuming it'd trigger on hitting the sea surface, of course. And that Rain could pick it up again before it sank. Since the Whale has such great pools of HP, MP and SP, about the only thing left is to reverse Purify and hope the monster spits him out from sheer disgust. But do monsters even have a sense of taste? Making them picky about their food doesn't seem like it would be a big priority for whoever designed them...

Chymor

This chapter greatly raises the stakes, and I'm sure SS has a plan, even if I have a hard time seeing where we're going from this. I just really hopes he avoids making the inside of the monster less dangerous then standing in front of it. So many stories does that, but here we're dealing with a intelligent monster more than 10 levels above Rain. There's plenty of reasons for why even the inside of it can hit the damage limit against "food". And being inside a stronger hostile soul should just make it worse.

Ziggy

Silly question. Has anyone considered that Ameliah might have Unity slotted in now? With her arriving shortly, Rain might get access to some of her tier 0-1 skills to help.

Deegles

I want to see Rain throw himself over a city and run a reverse purify nova at the top of the arc.

Random Information
>>103426761

Unless the timeskip in the last few chapters has been very long, I can't see that Ameliah has had enough time to obtain the Unity skill. It needs 10 skill in the 4 Imperial auras, including 1 we don't know the name of yet. Those auras require maxing the wells, which is also going to take a while when confined to a ship. OR does Ameliah have some cheat from her class that allows her to ignore some of the requirements, that I have forgotten?

Elaborate

Heh. You know, if Rain had made choices that would let him get Obliterate now, he could run THAT in reverse. While Purify is mostly used on dirt and filth, and that's what you get when you reverse it... Obliterate seems made for tunneling through rock. As such, I expect there's a dimension somewhere full of obliterated rock (and the occasional body part) waiting for someone to summon them. Rain could just summon a hundred tons of rock and weigh down the whale until it sinks to the bottom...

Gungner

Maybe Rain could take the skill "Tame monster" and try to tame the whale

Elaborate
>>103609060

This whale is too high level, but otherwise a sustained Purify might work? One of these days, Rain ought to use soul sight to look at a slime he's converting, see if what happens to its soul can be replicated in other monsters.

Elaborate
>>103399226

On the other hand, Auras working on a per-entity basis means Rain can just wedge himself in a corner of the whale's stomach and run auras with maximum efficiency. Hm. This is worth testing: If Rain does an Aura singularity in this situation... does the monster get hit? I mean, the aura is inside Rain, but technically it's inside the monster too, so... I wonder which of Spring or Summer are better for holding your breath longer; Rain might need it if the Whale dives. I guess Rain could purify CO2, but could he purify specifically carbon atoms, leaving O2?

Cirvante
>>103588672

... with Rain inside of it? Seems like an interesting way to commit suicide. There's always a bigger fish and at the bottom of the ocean seems like a good place to find one.

Cirvante

If he could survive inside the Whale's stomach for at least an hour, he might be able to kill it. The whale has to dive back down after at most 30 minutes, and a higher-ranked zone would allow Rain to do something like 1M DPS to it. The whale can't really touch him inside of it's own stomach. Then he'd have to pray that the whale floats back to the surface rather than sink further down. Using a Refrigerate Nova in the depths of the ocean sounds like a great way to call a Leviathan.

Elaborate
>>103664110

In fairness, once he leaves the sinking whale, using Refrigerate is going to be a really really fast way to get to the surface. The whale can sort of touch him inside - that's what the motorsaw-teeth-throat-lining is for - but yeah, that's not going to be enough to crack Rain. The main problem, of course, is that Rain doesn't have the time to wait 30 minutes - there are other whales after the ship...
