In Overcompensating (2025), a closeted college freshman dons a straight-boy act to meet expectations but finds his true self when forming an unexpected friendship and navigating love, identity, and freedom. Benny (Benito Skinner), a closeted former high-school football star, arrives at Yates University determined to fulfill his parents’ expectations—but his carefully crafted straight-boy persona starts to crumble when he befriends Carmen (Wally Baram), a fearless college outsider. Together they navigate fraternity parties, bad hookups, fake IDs, and the chaos of freshman year, forcing Benny to confront his identity, family pressures, and a growing crush on classmate Miles (Rish Shah). Along the way, sister Grace (Mary Beth Barone) and boyfriend Peter (Adam DiMarco) offer unexpected support as Benny begins to drop the act and live his truth.
