Here we go, guys!! Another very close to 6 HOURS review! I SWEAR I was trying to keep it brief, but there was SO much to talk about in this one!

2 EXCELLENT chapters! We have a lot to talk about when it comes to Movie comparisons, but I will defend some of the choices made (to an extend).

And we have the return... of two lil characters! I am so happy! XD And we get a whole lot more info about the situation with house elves! LOVED reading your thoughts on this!

Fact is... Percy gave Harry the advice he needed LONG ago. And yet he gets no respect (though slightly more respect than Hermione gets XD).

Love you, guys! I really hope you enjoy this episode! And as always, thank you all for taking part in the Book Club!

Yay let’s go! These always immediately brighten my night 🥳

Katik

Yay! Who needs sleep, right? 😊 Just re the beginnig - going back to Rita Skeeter's comment about the cupboard - I am pretty sure she's not referring to Harry having lived in one. She is referring to the fact it's a broom cupboard - brooms -> quidditch -> Harry being known for being a good Quidditch playet -> he should feel right at home among broomsticks. It's not a burn, it's an unsincere compliment! That's how I always understood it at least.

LouShirley

Yay! Looking forward to listening to this tomorrow! 🧙🏼🧹🪄

Garry (Not Jerry)

Rita and Harry are in a BROOM cupboard. Harry is right at home on a broomstick

Okay I gotta say this because it irrationally bothers me way too much. The singular noun is Animagus and the plural is Animagi. Kinda like Cactus 🌵

VeggieGamer

So sory Neellohit! I KNEW I was saying it wrong even as I said it!

Neellohit Basu

Oh, also "Moody" definitely tried to turn Draco into a ferret intentionally. Remember Hagrid tried to turn Dudley fully into a pig in book 1 but only managed the tail.

Hairy Pothead

Wohoo! I'm looking forward to the end of the book to see if Bagman actually is Lily Potter.

Dara Jeeling

yes, Mc Gonagalls Patronus is a cat - not sure if it's a tabby cat. I think the biggest issue is, that not enough people are Animagi to compare. We know of two (James and McGonagall) who have theirs matching - Sirius can not produce a Patronus (if I am correct) and we do not know any other animagi - and even if I know some more they never produce a corporeal patronus - so no way we can see if they match... IF it's a match my animagus would be sort of pointless - since my patronus is a shark - so I would look impressice lying on land and gasping - with my huge jaws... So yeah... I think I remember reading usually your patrouns is you animagi form or the other way round. As said problem is, a lot of witches and wizards can either not become animagi or are unable to produce a corporeal patronus. Something entirely unrelated to the book club.. Il live near Cologne and we had this "exhibition" (more like art display) called "Visions of Magic" which is related to HP - so of course I went (in january). I love Harry Potter and the display was lovely. I read a lot of of ciritcism about it. It's not nearly as greatas the studio tour is - but its something completely unrelated. Anyway I got my second ticket for half the price and went again on wednesday. I filmed a lot and am thiking of uploading my first ever you tube (if I can find out how to edit). There was this lovely family of grandma, mum and the 8 year old daughter (daughter comlete in Gryffindor attire with Hermione s wand) and the id tol me she is now reading the 4th book. I had bought a golden egg nacklace earlier, which I would usually have used as a gift (preparing for a gift box for the end of the year) - so I gave her the necklace. She was happy and so was I. Back tot the exhibition - I loved the displays BUT I have a HUGE problem with interactors not being trained (a kid asked about the Mirror of erised and the interactor was like "well it's a mirror") and I hated the crowds - literally to full to et good picures. So... enough ranting and writing... Have a nice weekend you all!

Hi Veggie When you said about Cedric's delayed reaction about Harry ripping his satchel, reminds me of the Kicking Bishop up the arse episode of Father Ted . Also during Hagrid's Blast-enders lesson, Draco and some of the others hide in the hut. Draco may not like Hagrid very much, but he considers his hut a safe haven in that instance lol

Alias93

I think confirming McGonagall's patronus is a bit of a spoiler (not a big one of course), we don't get to see it until much later in the story. I'm suprised about your comment on Sirius, I don't think we ever see him cast a patronus, but I just think that it's because the opportunity never presented itself (and when he would have needed one in PoA he wasn't carrying a wand). Do you mean that he would never be able to produce one, or just that he hasn't mastered the spell yet?

Alias93

On the topic of things I got wrong when watching the movie the first time, here's one that happens in these chapters. In the french version, Draco is named Drago, which is pretty close to "dragon" (same word as in english). So when the dragon breaks free in the movie and wrecks the stands where the teachers are, I misheard what Fred and George were saying, and thought they said "Well done Drago!" (in french of course), which confused me and lead me to believe that they were somehow blaming Draco for setting the dragon free (I must have blinked and missed the frame where the dragon bites its chain). So for a while I thought that everything went wrong in that task because of Malfoy. You were wondering if we had heard about spells you would use on yourself: there was one earlier in the book, the "Sonorus" spell Bagman uses on his throat to make his voice louder when he's commentating at the world cup (and presumably in the first task too). I can't remember if we saw more spells like that before. About Moody turning Malfoy into a ferret, I think this is very different from the case of an Animagus. I suppose that if you are good enough at transfiguration, you could turn someone into any animal you want, regardless of what their potential Animagus form would be.

VeggieGamer

Haha it could also be the Speed 3 episode of Father Ted “… THOSE WOMEN WERE IN THE NIP!” 😆

Zachary Wynn

Veggie: Dean who is very good at drawing, apparently, I'm sure that has not been mentioned. Sorry Veggie you have brought this up in 2 separate books. So that is 3 of 4 so far lol

Alias93

I remember he offered Harry to forge Vernon's signature on his Hogsmeade permission form in book 3, what was the other one?

S1lm4r1l

Philosopher's stone, he makes a banner supporting Harry in his first Quidditch match.

Alias93

Ah, I need to reread this one, it's the only one I don't have a copy of at the moment.

S1lm4r1l

13 minutes in and Veggie talks about "Men who love Dragons too much." and I'm just thinking "Boy, you're gonna love my comment when you get there." Thanks Veggie.

Dara Jeeling

Also, thank you for no seeing Snape as totally bad. You already know I love this character (I see his faults and not so pleasant sides as well) But I am genuinely happy you are moderate! *yay* one more moderate !

Mary

Just starting the reaction but I think Rita gets Harry’s age wrong in the article just to exaggerate the story and sensationalise. Also Harry will be comfy in the ‘broom’ cupboard because he’s on the quidditch team!

Anton sindahl

hey Veggie. if you're wondering about some of the terms, such as why it says Dobby is wearing a swater and not a jumper. its becouse the Jim Dale version is the American Version, so that's why you sometimes hear american terms. the Stephen Fry version is the British version. keep up the good work

Mary

Veggie you blew my mind when you said Percy said ‘play to your strengths’ is it not likely to be something Barry Crouch Snr says often? 😅

Garfnob

the Fing sorting hat. also in the books all the time, a pointed wizards hat was on his first years school supply list. i know it is easier said then done, but you can try not caring if people think you are "odd". it works for me, i have never cared what people think of me you like me for how i am or i do not need you (might just be mt atypical brain). expressly at things like conventions you will likely never see them again so it does not mater what they thing. just food for thought, it might click for you or not. :) i do not read it as the dragon is scared as in fear, but worried to leave the eggs unattended. if i remember correctly the line is something to the effect of "the dragon was scared to leave the eggs."

Diego Zenhäusern

Only just listened to the intro, but I whole heartedly agree with you that both of Rita's comments make no sense and were most likely just oversights in the movie/ the book. So one can try to explain them away, but I definitely don't think they were though through that far🤔😅

Kate Bogd

Yay! We love your tangents Veggie, so don't apologise 😁 I'll make sure to go to Cornwall then :) And thank you for sharing the stories about your family too ❤️‍🩹

Hilde

When Harry says to Hermione that he was supposed to get past the dragon himself as well, I don’t see it as him mocking her at all! On the contrary, he’s pointing out that he wouldn’t have made it past if it wasn’t for her help.

Ashley Evers

Draco means Dragon OMG, using that book title for Draco slash fic is brilliant 🤣 It’s okay to be a Cedric fanboy. It seems like he's a very likable guy, that's kind of the point of him, I think. “How could anyone possibly work that out? It’s completely mental.” - is probably one of my favorite lines in the movies, so I agree with you that I like the way that plays out both in the movie and in the books 🤣

Lili

The reason it says "soccer" instead of "football" and "sweater" instead of "jumper" is because you're listening to the Jim Dale version Veggie 😃 They changed common British terms in the American versions of the books 😊

Judith

I just had a random thought and maybe someone already commented on it: Rita Skeeter can say Harry is 14 without being obviously wrong. Harry was over a year old when Voldmort tried to kill him. Not by much, but he was over a year. So technically, Voldemorts demise that everyone knows about was 14 years prior to the triwizard tournement. At least i think so. And i dont know if Harrys age was made public, when he survived. Everyone only knew him as the boy who lived. But i could be completely wrong here!!

Garfnob

and soccer is the proper name for that game. Brits are the ones that called it soccer. they "recently" changed it.

Garfnob

but she stated 12. still 2 years off.

itsanursething

Haha! Yes Veggie, that is a kangaroo. I went to a sanctuary in Tasmania and all of the kangaroos were just hanging out in a field. You could go up and feed them/pet them. It was really cool!! And yes, the new job is going great! The move took a lot out of me…still kind of living out of some boxes, but all is well!

I loved the minutes where you spoke about autism/social anxiety/social events etc. I have an autistic friend (and one who I'm certain is autistic!), and it's really helpful to hear about this even though every autistic person of course isn't the same. I think you're really good at describing this sort of thing! (I have bought Fern Brady's book as well, and I'm really looking forward to read it. I've heard it's really good.)

Christina Brock

When Harry ambushed Cedric in the corridor to tell him about the dragons, Cedric was on his way to class, so all the students around him probably were members of his own House and year. However, we know his girlfriend is a Ravenclaw one year behind him, implying that his social circle is not just Hufflepuffs. At the Battle of Bunker Hill in the American Revolution, it is said that the colonial fighters were low on ammunition, so to make every shot count, they were told, "Don't fire until you see the whites of their eyes." Neville's birthday is July 30, Harry's is July 31, and it's possible that Seamus also had a birthday in July (I can't find any clues to his birthday at all). No one else in that Divination class was born in July. Lavender, Parvati, and Dean were all born sometime between September 1 and April 21; Hermione was born in September; and Ron and Professor Trelawney were both born in March. I am now in almost total agreement with you about House-Elves. There is of course more to be learned about them (particularly about Winky), but nothing that I think should change your opinion on the subject. I read a fanfiction once where Ron gifted Winky to his mother for Christmas, with Winky's enthusiastic agreement. That strikes me as a great way to help both of them - to take some of the load off Molly (at least in the summers when her house is full of people) and to give back Winky's self-respect by allowing her to be bonded to a family again, which seems to be what she wants more than anything. The Weasleys might struggle to pay even as much as a galleon a week, but Dobby seems perfectly happy working at Hogwarts, and Winky doesn't want to be paid, so that wouldn't be a problem. I wish some such solution were canon. The eggs were the color of concrete, but they were real eggs.
