THIS PART OF THE BOOK CLUB IS NOW COMPLETE! Thank you so much for taking part, and see you next time! :)

-----------------------

HI GUYS! AS MENTIONED IN THE PREVIOUS COUPLE OF EPISODES, THIS REVIEW WILL BE A ONE CHAPTER REVIEW! SO PLEASE MAKE SURE TO NOT INCLUDE THOUGHTS ON CHAPTER 22! :)

----------------------------------------

Oof-Tee-Poof, everyone!! 👋

Here is a chance to get your comment read out in the next Book review video!

If you are reading along with the reviews, we are covering chapter "The Eye of the Snake"! So if you have any thoughts, opinions, comparisons or questions regarding these, please leave a comment below!

I do have to ask, try to keep them fairly short, like 4 or 5 sentences.  That way I can cover more when making the video.  Also try to keep them on subject and not referencing anything that we are yet to cover. Ideally, keep it to 1 comment each if you can (if you have more to say after commenting, you can edit it and add to it! :) ).  These are just rough guidelines rather than rules, I want to be able to fit in as many of you as possible! :)

NEW FEATURE!! - As some of you may want to make a comment, but not have it replied to by others, you can now Message me your thoughts on the chapters by DM'ing me on here.  If you do, please follow all the above rules, especially avoiding mentioning things in future chapters or books!  Oh and please start your DM message with "Book Club -"!

To anyone that does reply to comments below, please make sure you are being friendly and respectful!  A lot of tone and meaning can be lost in text, after all!  If you disagree with someone on something, keep it polite and remember the golden rule in life - Sometimes you have to just agree to disagree! :)

Thanks, guys!! :)

S'mae Wezgie! Chapter 21 Umbridge's behaviour during Hagrid's assessment is disgusting. Not just towards Hagrid - but callously asking Neville who he'd seen die. There should be an assessor assessing the assessor! Would it not be kinder to tell Hermione that Dobby is taking her hats, to save her the wasted effort (and wool?) Yet again she shows how observant she is, picking up on Harry's longstanding feelings for Cho, and yet tactful enough never to mention them until now. I'd love to know what she's talking to Krum about! Hope you both have a lovely month!

Heather Judge

Hey Veggie! Thanks for asking, I'm at the Queen's College at Oxford (but I have visited friends at New College, where Draco is turned into a ferret, and Christ Church where the first scene in Philosopher with McGonagall is, they're both worth a visit!) I think it's uncharacteristically insensitive of Hagrid to teach the thestrals, yes he blunders a lot but not usually with emotions. A bit of a rough way to remind Harry about Cedric's murder. Any other students who've witnessed a death probably also wouldn't want to be singled out for it in front of their classmates. I wonder if Cho heard the talk about the thestrals around school and it brought back memories for her, and if Neville was really "snuffling in his sleep" or up thinking about why he could see them too. Fry's voice for Umbridge when she's patronising Hagrid really is brilliantly infuriating. I wonder what Dobby had to think to get into the DA meeting room!

Badger Kat

Greetings, Veggie, Woozle, and all! I will revise my holiday wishes from last month and instead join Dobby in wishing you had a very Harry Christmas! Ch 21 - I don’t get angry that easily, especially not with fictional characters, but Umbridge is just too infuriating! - The thestral is named Tenebrus. The internet tells me that tenebrous means dark and gloomy. - I’m surprised Umbridge questioned Neville and not just the Slytherins, but then she is entirely capable of twisting anything that anyone says. - I really enjoy the trio just being friends and talking about Harry’s first kiss and being normal teenagers for a bit. Nice moment before Harry’s terrifying dream. Thank you so much for everything!

Badger Kat

I love that she is tactful in most situations but can still be a bit tactless sometimes, for example, making a comment about wishing she could see thestrals.

Badger Kat

Maybe he is teaching the thestrals because he knew Harry would be able to see them this year? But yes, it can be a very sensitive topic.

Cari Ann

I was watching his book club for the last one and someone asked, and he did say ginny is the only one he would guess because he knows she joins the team by the movies.

Badger Kat

Thanks, I may edit this, I haven’t watched the full video. I probably shouldn’t comment before watching the previous one but I can’t help myself!

Cari Ann

Hi veggie! You had asked if some of us have like a "go away" feeling with umbridge and yes that's me, theres a lot I like about the book but umbridge I can't stand and it makes this one of my least favorite to read. The way she treats Hagrid here is so infuriating to me. You were looking for regret from Harry and he did think it when talking to Angelina about ginny taking his place, but do you think he actually feels bad about what he did to Draco or just feels bad he got this punishment for it?

rreowenn

Isn’t Cho in the year above?

rreowenn

I guess when it involves gaining more knowledge she is more blinded!

Heather Judge

Whoops you're right! Thank you shall edit

Madikuma95

Utility spells are interesting because they make life so much easier... when the witch/wizard remembers to cast them! Couldn't poor Hermione cast a warming spell BEFORE she went out into the snow? 😅 It's funny Harry apparently doesn't remember the name of a (granted, Slytherin) classmate he's known for almost five years! Hermione's little slip up about the thestrals feels so real. They're my favorite HP creature, but the cost to see them is just too much. I do wonder, what exactly counts as "seeing death"? The creepy snake dream is a cliffhanger so I'll save it for next time! 🐍 I hope everyone had a Very Harry Christmas! 🎄

Elinaboo

Hi Veggie! - Can we please talk about how utterly RUDE Umbridge is in Hagrid’s class!? It annoyes me to no end that she is all about class and proper rule following, raising hands during classes and having respect for professors. Those clearly does not apply when its herself involved! Hagrid was doing so well too and her behavior to Neville!?!?!? aaaaaaaaa!!!! - I love we get to hear about Harry growing up, and getting his first kiss from his long time crush! However for me, I died in cringe both in movie and book because it felt so.. wrong. In one way it feels like Cho is still sad over Cedric and is replacing him with Harry, in another way that she is doing anything to have Harry close because she feels so lonely in her grief and thousand other things happening in her life! Sorry it was a bit long! All the best to you and cutie patootie (Woozle)

Badger Kat

Potential spoiler buffer

Badger Kat

She is definitely not ready for a relationship, I don’t think she’s very emotionally available. She doesn’t seem to be coping with any of this well. Therapy should definitely be a thing in the Wizarding world.

Elinaboo

I so agree! She and Cedrics friends should have gotten that help this year, as it is so hard losing someone. It is for all ages ofc, but I think it is especially hard with the ages they are now with figuring out themselves and feelings. Makes me sad that Harry isn’t sure how he feels after they kiss as well. His first kiss should make him all radient and stuff. For me that just shows that its very complicated for them both to understand whats between them ♥️

Elinaboo

I feel like Harry only remembers names of people he finds interesting or has a vandetta against 😂

Alias93

Hi Veggie! You have been wondering for a while if Harry, Ron and Hermione were the only students who are friends with Hagrid. It’s nice to see that Fred, George and Lee (Jordan) are apparently also good friends with him. The movie wanted to establish Luna as a friend early on, and the scene with the thestrals was sweet, but it makes a lot more sense for Hagrid to be the one to introduce them properly, since he’s the one who has been taking care of them. Book Harry was also a lot more stressed out about the thestrals than movie Harry, who just seemed mildly intrigued by them. It’s funny how the movie made Harry and Cho’s kiss very romantic (classic hero’s first kiss trope) while in the book it’s treated like a somewhat traumatic moment for Harry, we don’t get to actually see it happen, we only get his fight or flight response as she’s getting closer and he’s left in a state of shock after. I love Harry’s bizarre dreams in the books, they give so much insight into his subconcious. For example, we find out he still hasn’t completely forgiven Hermione for snitching to McGonagall about the firebolt. If Harry’s dreams had been integrated in the movies, I think seeing him hanging baubles shaped like Dobby’s head might have been the wildest thing to happen in the movies so far.

S1lm4r1l

Hi Veggie, short and sweet this time. :D There's something nice about how innocent Hagrid is that he is so completely disarmed by how awful Umbridge is. He just doesn't know how to respond. I wanna discuss people separating book characters from their film counterparts. The films base Nagini on a Reticulated Python, (sorry dyslexia-sufferers) which does not have the bite-force to fracture/splinter ribs the way Harry witnesses in the attack. Nagini might be one of those characters where people struggle to get away from the film depiction. Do you imagine the movie snake, or something different? Are you planning to listen to the Full Cast audiobooks when they catch up with where you're at in the story? The cast is STACKED, I will be amazed if there's less than 7 names or faces you recognise.

Gugurupurasu Daikirai

It's possible Neville already knew what they were because he's from a Wizarding family and just never brought them up, because he's been seeing them longer than Harry has.

Gugurupurasu Daikirai

こんにちは、ベジーとウーズル, We know how it goes (or doesn't) in the movies but how is Harry's relationship going to be with Cho after this in the books? Hermione is still writing long letters to Krum... Hagrid could have done a lot worse than thestrals, I thought it would have been neat in the movie to see the perspective of the meat disappearing for the people who couldn't see them. Hermione seemed to take Umbridge's slights to Hagrid even more personally than Harry did, a lot of people say she should be Ravenclaw but there's the Gryffindor side of her. Why aren't Hagrid's apparent injuries healing? I have really been looking forward to the next two chapters, you might find them mind blowing and there may be some revelations in them you won't see coming. Or maybe keep your expectations low, all I'll say is the longest book shouldn't have had the second shortest movie.

Garfnob

Greetings, Chapter – 21 - if this lesson of Hargids was a problem it would have been a problem when he taught it to the 5th years the last 2 year. The books tend to not worry about things that are not happening to Harry. Like i do not remember who complaining about getting Umbridge in their O.W.L. year. Every year is someone’s O.W.L. year. - there is a large debate as to why Harry could not see the Thestrals until this year. What is your take on it? - if you did not get the un-flattering nicknames for Umbridge, this chapter should do it. there are not many people I would wish ill on, but people like her make the list.

Florian

And moments like this is why a lot of people hate umbridge more than voldemort. Also the change in harrys dream how it became more snakelike with every sentence. What is your opinion of the dream?

Diego Zenhäusern

WFFTITWFF Veggie! Personally I think Harry is being unfair to Molly. I'm pretty sure Molly would let Sirius come over for Christmas if Harry asked her and Dumbledore gave his permission (which to me would be the bigger issue🤔). What do you think about it?🤔 Also: Harry: "I'm fine!" *continues ro retch, because hes obviously not fine* ...man Harry watch out for yourself! It's okay to admit if you're not fine🙈😅 On a lighter note: I love how different Luna's and Cho's reactions to standing beneath the mistletoe are.😂

S1lm4r1l

*Spoiler protecto*

S1lm4r1l

Its Harry that thinks Molly wouldn't want to invite Sirius. Harbouring a fugitive is a big risk for Molly to be taking. Grimmauld Place is different because its Sirius's actual house and he's been instructed not to leave.

Diego Zenhäusern

Thanks for pointing out my mistake. I adapted my comment accordingly. You're right the fugitiv angle is a legitimate problem. Though my comment is more aimed at the fundamental idea of whether or not Molly would put her grudge with Sirius over Harry's happiness (i.e. him being able to spend some time with Sirius). And under that angle I don't think she'd do that.🤔

Alex Hopps

Hey veggie I hate umbridge, I wish hermione would shove her in a ruddy jar for a few weeks. Hagrids lesson was horrible to sit through. Poor neville, every detail we get given about his history makes me sad. All the teenage romance stuff is my least favourite bit of the book series, makes me glad i went to a boys school My new favourite quote from this book happened during the dream sequence: "The whole thing was ridiculous, he'd only come to the DA room to put up some christmas baubles shaped like dobbies head"

Kunzite Blossom

Thoughts on Ginny becoming seeker with Harry's ban? The films never really show this. She just is randomly shown as being on the team when Harry became captain.

Keary Smith

Happy new year Veggie and Woozle! Umbridge does what Umbridge does best, being a little ****. Admittedly Hagrid is not a good teacher, but this is not his worst lesson. I’ve been back studying a few years and a large majority of my teachers are bad, some even worse than Hagrid. Many are like him though, they posses much knowledge of the subject but are absurdly bad at teaching. Though no one has taken a deadly beast into my class... yet. :D Thoughts on Hermione calling out Ron’s joke about Harry’s and Cho’s first kiss as insensitive? Earlier Hermione in Harry’s company stated she wants to see the thestral's, does she WANT to see a person die? Calling a joke about kissing insensitive is quite the leap. I always felt that Ron was meaning what he said as a light-hearted joke, like guy best friends many times take jabs at each other. Finally, poor Arthur Weasley, quite the brutal end to this chapter. Let’s see how it goes for him shall we, cannot wait for the upcoming chapters!

Maria

Hi Veggie, I hope you enjoyed the holidays and had a chance to rest and recharge! It looks like most of the big topics have already been covered, so I'll try to focus on some other things. I love Dobby's Christmas decorations; he really is a great character. It's very sweet (although misguided) that Hermione is thinking of the house elves being stuck at Hogwarts over Christmas. Do you think Harry should tell her what's happening with the hats? I think that would be the kind thing to do. On the other hand, she might come up with a more extreme way to try to free them. It's also interesting to hear how much Harry thinks about and misses Sirius. He talks about wishing that Sirius could give him advice about girls; I do think that's something he would be good at! It's wild that Ron hasn't heard of skiing! There's no reason wizards couldn't do some sort of magical skiing. It's crazy that Quidditch is the only sport wizards participate in.

Josh Z

Umbridge is an absolutely awful human being. Even the first time reading I knew that Harry and Cho were doomed from the beginning. Harry is just not equipped to help her deal with her grief. It's funny from Harry's perspective because he is ill-equipped to process the kiss. Short and sweet this time Veggie:)

Esmeralda Joy

Hi Veggie, Since Angelina already had to replace 3 players, do you think she should have also replaced Ron? She was counting on him being better than he showed at tryouts, but he proved that false. Will the new team still win without Harry miraculously catching the snitch every time? I miss the line from the movie "I'm sure Harry's kissing was more than satisfactory" perfect addition to this scene!

Réka Kovács

Hi Veggie and Woozle! I wish Hermione would help me with my lesson planning 😅 I hate Umbitch soooo much... Objectively, as much as I love Hagrid, it is true that he is not exactly the best teacher, but this lesson was going well until this evil woman showed up.. The way she treats Hagrid as if he can't understand normal speech and twisting the words makes me soo angry.. I'm supposed to get an inspection in my class next month too, just general one that happens as a new teacher, though it has been postponed 3 times already, so now I just want to get it over with. Hope that it will go better and whoever does my assessment won't be Umbridge level 🥲😅 I find thestrals fascinating. Probably stupid comparison, but I think of how people say black cats bring bad luck, it's just superstition.. 'For the first time in his school carrier he very much wanted to spend the Holidays away from Hogwarts.' Knowing how much Hogwarts is an escape for Harry and how he always felt at home there, this sentence shows how much he is dealing with this year. Lovely to get a little Dobby again. Very Harry Christmas 😅 The scene with Cho seems so weird.. she cries about her ex-boyfriend who died in front of Harry, and then just goes on to kiss him.. I understand the conflicting feelings, but still, it just seems wrong at that moment.

Andrew K

Hi Veggie, - I think it was interesting that Ron was being a prefect and shouting out the window at people throwing snowballs, only to realise it was Fred & George and back down immediately. - Harry’s nightmare was traumatic, but the bit before Mr Weasley’s attack made me laugh; Harry dreamt of Dobby-shaped Christmas baubles! They need to sell these! - The movie scene of Harry waking from his dream is very fast-paced, but it felt more authentic in the book with Harry vomiting, the pain he was feeling, etc. Much better in the book for me. - This is Harry’s first real introduction to Thestrals. In the movie, Luna and Harry share a gorgeous scene where she explains what they are. This change was wonderfully done and a great movie addition. What do you think? Stay well! And I hope you enjoy/enjoyed the Royal Rumble.

John Phillips

Personally I don't like that Luna scene in the movie or any movie exclusive scene Luna has in the movies.

Andrew K

Ohh interesting, why is that?

PumpkinSparks

There are more sports in the wizarding world, we just barely hear about them. We know that the Department for Magical Games and Sports also has a Gobstones Division, that organizes tournaments and such, making it an official sport. I presume that Wizard Chess is considered a sport just as Chess is in our world. And then there is competitive duelling, Summoner's Court, and Quodpot that we know exist, we just don't know if they are played professionally as well. But I agree that the fact that Ron has never heard of skiing and thinks it's a bonkers thing to do, doesn't really make sense. You can't tell me that no wizard ever felt the need to sit or stand on a thing and slide down a snowy hill!

Jake M

Dobby was probably thinking "I need to help Harry Potter! I need to help Harry Potter!"

PumpkinSparks

Hey Woozles Hooman :) In the last bookclub you asked if there are people who don't like this book because they hate Umbridge so much. I understand that there are people who feel like that and that response is absolute valid, but I personally 100% disagree with that thought process. I HATE Umbridge, and that's why I love this book! The more vile she gets, the more I look forward towards her inevitable downfall. For one I relish a good villain, but also she is a very real flavour of evil. Everyone knows (or knows about) a real life person who is umbridgey. And especially after this chapter? I want to see her metaphorically stumped into the ground and wither away!!! And a not so nice part of me wants that to happen not-metaphorically... Some things I always wondered about Thestrals: - Shouldn't it be more common knowledge that they pull the carriages? Did noone ever accidentally bump into them? Presumably there are a couple students each year who can see them, and noone ever asked about the creepy horses or shrieked in surprise - especially if someone witnessed a death during their holidays and suddenly can see the Thestrals? (fyi, I think they are beautiful, but I can see how most people would think they are a bit creepy) - Is it just human deaths, or does the death of a beloved pet count as well? What about the deaths of other humanoids like Houseelfs or Goblins? - You're telling me that Hermione has never wondered about the specific enchantement on the "horseless" carriages and researched it, only to find out they are being pulled by Thestrals? - What were they using for transportation before Hagrid came along and successfully bread a heard of Thestrals? As always, give some love to Wooz please!

Ola Sehlén

Hi Veggie, First time commenter here! I just want you to know that you inspired me to start a book club with my mother. She loves reading and it's a way for me to connect as adults. We've read "My Friends" by "Fredrik Backman" as our first book and discussed it earlier today. It was great, but some trigger warning for difficult childhoods. A short question about this chapter; Harry thinks about keeping the kiss a secret. Do you believe that he wanted to keep it a secret or was he happy to discuss it with his friends at this moment? Thanks!

Réka Kovács

I love that scene but *spoiler* hate that they gave the scene in the next book when Tonks finds Harry on the train to Luna. I am biased because Tonks is my favorite character, but the conversation they had was soo important and added to her character a lot which was missing from the movies.

Esmeralda Joy

Hermione had clearly heard of them before and probably knew they were pulling the carriages. When Harry was asking Ron about them, Hermione wasn't in the scene.

Dodolulupepe

Hi Veggie, This is my first time commenting on Patreon! You're one of my absolute favorite YouTubers; I watched all of your movie reactions and book clubs and have finally joined 😄 (I've watched dozens of different Harry Potter reactions, and this series is the #1 best!!!) Since you pondered a lot, I first want to address why I think Luna made the Gryffindor hat. I have a theory that in this book Luna has a crush on Ron (which is not returned), and I believe this was actually JKR's intention. The first time they met, Luna's first observation was that Ron went to the ball with Padma, that Padma didn't think he treated her very well because he wouldn't dance, but that Luna wouldn't have minded that - AKA that she wouldn't have minded going with him. She laughed the loudest at Ron's impression of Goyle (whom she likely doesn't even know!) She offered to carry Ron's owl, then compliments the owl when she returns it to Ron. She's openly stared long at Ron, first on the train, then later after he made a rude comment, which she wasn't fazed by. Finally at the hat scene, when she approaches the Gryffindor table with it, she *specifically* said good luck to Ron, not Harry. That's the evidence so far in my opinion! For Chapter 21: Oh my goodness, Umbridge's inspection of Hagrid is INFURIATING! The WAY she treats him like he's mentally slow is genuinely probably my most hated Umbridge moment...! McGonagall horrified reaction after she realized that Harry was serious about Arthur and the snake... Anyway, I sincerely apologize for the horribly long comment; I spent time editing but it's hard to shorten theories; I'll write a lot less next time - though my favorite character is Ginny!!, and two chapters later, I'll have a lot to say about her! For now, congrats on her becoming Seeker :) Thank you so much for what you're doing! 🫡

Dodolulupepe

*spoiler* Luna has different book-exclusive bonding scenes with Harry and I think it's so much better that the connection with death (the thestrals and the veil) between them two isn't fully realized by him until the end, with only she being able to truly console Harry a bit.

Dodolulupepe

the movie though doesn't have Ron's hilarious reaction to Hermione saying that (well, the equivalent): "How do you know?" said sharply 😂

Dodolulupepe

>Ron was meaning what he said as a light-hearted joke yeah and Harry took it well, finally giving him a reluctant grin that Ron was so funnily jubilant over Harry's successful kiss. (when he was so apprehensive before)

Dodolulupepe

the biggest Cho cringe is a few chapters to come... 👀

PumpkinSparks

Uh, I like you're Luna crush theory. I personally don't read it that way, I think a lot of Hufflepuffs and Ravenclaws would sport Gryffendor colours to that match and Luna jumped at the opportunity to craft and be a bit extra (I can relate 😋). But your theory sounds very plausible!

Badger Kat

That’s a very interesting theory! I kinda like it and I can see it. I know at some point Luna says something about how Ron can be unkind, I think that might be half blood Prince though?

S1lm4r1l

If he doesn't play Quidditch against them or have a grudge against them he barely remembers they exist. I'm pretty certain he only remembers Ernie and Hannah because they bad-mouthed him in Year 2.

Dodolulupepe

that is HBP and she probably fell out of it by then, probably seeing how Ron and Hermione clearly liked each other

Howiedoing

I really don’t have too much to say on this chapter the elements of Harry and Voldemort’s connection is what kept this one of my favorite books in the series. I really wish Hagrid would read the room better and listened to Hermione. I also wonder what Dumbledore was doing in the time he was absent in this book from the school likely gathering followers stuff like that but I wonder if his sort of final push towards the horcrux mission I wonder if he found out where the cave was in this time. Or maybe he was just chilling on the beach?🏖️ Also wasn’t going to re listen attempting to the series this year but since the full cast edition is starting to come out I guess that’s changing so far 10 out of 10 recommended. Edit After watching the full last video I didn’t even realize Kit Harrington was playing Lockhart until one of the comments last book club said it, in my opinion he does a great job.

itsanursething

I don't think Hagrid was being insensitive. Maybe he decided to teach them SO he could explain to Harry what he was seeing. It would be a shock for anyone who didn't know what they were to suddenly see something that hadn't previously been there before.

Maddie

Hi Woozle and Veg! This is such a stressful chapter. I usually skip the inspection scene as my blood pressure just couldn't take it! Then Harry's dream/vision about Mr.Weasley's attack is just the cherry on top. The readers can really feel Harry's panic since it was so vividly described. But at least we also get that really cute scene between the trio when they were discussing The Kiss. Lastly, thank you for always complimenting my icon! They're my 10 yr.old shih tzus, Lili and Tey-tey. I got them when I finally got my own place because my mom (her name's Molly, btw) won't let me have dogs before cause she was bitten as a child. Although now she's our main supplier of doggie treats and toys.

itsanursething

Hi Veggie! And most importantly, hi lovely miss Woozle! One of my all-time favorite Harry Potter related gifts was a teaspoon given to me by my mom. It’s engraved in the scoop: “Ron’s emotional range.” haha!! You guessed right! Hagrid taught about thestrals, which I think is a really interesting lesson. I understand what Hermione meant about wanting to see them. As someone who hasn’t seen death, I would be unable to see what a thestral looks like, but I’m interested, you know? I don’t want to watch someone die, but would like to see a thestral. If that makes sense. Also, couldn’t someone who can see them, draw them? Ugh! The way Umbridge talks to Hagrid is so condescending and rude! I hate her. Can’t wait for her to get her’s… Go Neville!! He’s improving and doing well (which I always knew he was capable of!) because he has a teacher that actually helps him and encourages him! He’s not careless, he just lacks confidence. Anyway! Sorry for missing the last book club and the long comment. December got away from me. Started in a new unit at the hospital so I’ve been a little scattered. Hope you and Woozle are having a great start to the new year! GO HAWKS!! 🏈

Badger Kat

If you haven’t seen it, I really recommend the ‘Behind the Mic’ video about the making of the audiobooks!

Howiedoing

Appreciate that will do

S1lm4r1l

I assume Dumbledore has been researching Voldemort's past and gathering memories and information ever since Harry presented Riddle's Diary to him at the end of Chamber, with that process accelerating considerably with Voldemort's return.

Howiedoing

Yes I agree with that I was just stating more of his final big push towards the horcruxes Edit I revised it slightly in the original text to reflect that better

Sunblooded

Hey Woozle! (And veggie too i guess), missed the last book club but glad to be back Is it just me that finds the whole Hermione and krum thing weird, I mean he was 17/18 in the last book and Hermione was 14, (15 at max)…..i don’t know it’s just weird to me, especially when it’s implied it’s meant to be romantic and 17 is when you’re legally classed as an adult/ of age in the wizarding world God I hate umbitch, what the hell was that bullshit with hagrid?! Hermione’s going on a ski holiday? Her family must be pretty rich to afford that, especially considering this is set in the 90’s (think this one is around 95/96?) makes me realise we never really get any information on Hermiones parents/ personal life except that her parents are both dentists Baubles of Harry’s face hung from the ceiling 🤣 I love you Dobby but wtf that’s kinda creepy 🤣 Teenage boys (teenagers in general to be fair) dealing with crushes and romance is always so funny, “how was it?”…..”wet” And even when Harry’s dreams don’t mean anything (the one that’s not about the snake) they’re still crazy 🤣 I mean…..accurate to how dreams are in real life Also binge watched all your Hogwarts legacy videos cus I started playing it, hope those make a comeback as a regular thing cus there’s a couple side quests I can’t wait for you to get to, (only hints are one involves a niffler, and one involves a verry annoying ghost) Sorry if it’s a bit long

Madikuma95

Hermione was 15 in GoF, her birthday is in September.

Badger Kat

Hope you’re enjoying Hogwarts Legacy, I loved it and have replayed it several times!

jolt45

What's up Veggie and Woozle? Ron: "What does she see in Krum?" Harry: "Well, I suppose he's older, isn't he?...and he's an international Quidditch player." Ron: "Yeah, but apart from that." Never change Ron, haha. You were right about the thestrals! Too bad Umbridge is a massive ***this string of insults has been removed by the FCC to meet PG-13 regulations***. I'm not sure if its exclusive to the North American version, but the text switches from "Happy Christmas" to "Merry Christmas" in this chapter. People are wishing Harry a "Happy Christmas" as they are leaving but he thinks to himself that he wants Cho to wish him a "Merry Christmas" in the build up to their kiss. I wonder if the usage of both was intentional or an accident when adapting the text? Harry is still letting Hermione go on with the knitting. I feel like he should have told her by now. The dream sequence is pretty intense. Harry vomiting and already letting slip to Ron that he WAS the snake (even if Ron doesn't understand yet) are the two biggest differences to me. Quite the cliffhanger!

CJ Haaay

G’day Veggie! I hope you are having a better start to 2026 than me. I tripped down the stairs at the train station and fractured my ankle. I have to be on crutches for 6 weeks.   Chapter 21 * Umbridge makes me so mad in this chapter. She is talking to Hagrid like he’s super slow and unable to understand anything. There are people in real life who behave this way. * I hate that she asked Neville who he saw die. That’s such a personal question! * I love Ron’s reaction to finding out Harry and Cho kissed, and Hermione’s deep look of disgust at him * I wish the movies had kept in that Hermione was still in contact with Krum. * This is a little sad to think about, but by the end of the series there will be a lot more people who can see Thestrals :( Have a great month! Love from Australia

John Meyer

Hello, my first comment here, American viewer of yours. Your love of British media has inspired me to watch the Jeremy Brett Sherlock TV show, which I have been enjoying very much. Moving on to the book, this is a great chapter for me in how it encapsulates the rest of the book. My favorite aspect is the visceral portrayal of the fear of not just rejection, but even romance at that age. It should be a happy moment for Harry, but it's much more complicated than that.

Hey Veezle and Woogie, I think the dream scene is very interesting. The Snake + Harry "Dream Fusion" thinks about doing something more important while Arthur is still sitting and not attacking. When Arthur then gets out his wand, the thoughts become "I have no choice, i have to attack". Maybe i am grasping here but it could also sound like an excuse to attack? Like i would excuse myself to not go to the gym, because something else came up. Of course it could also be that there literally was no other way, but i would have thought, that the person, that send the snake, would have had mechanisms and ways to get the snake out of this situation more gracefully and maybe the snake was just using an excuse to attack and well ... not be vegan :D What do you think? Cant wait to hear your thoughts and i hope you had a great day! :)

"This is 29 Acacia Road. And this is Eric, the schoolboy who leads an exciting double life. For when Eric eats a banana, an amazing transformation occurs. Eric is......" It must be said Umbridge is very clever she knows exactly how to manipulate both Hagrid and the students to get the result in the lesson she want's for her report. Ginnys on the team too now, Yay. I kind of wonder about ron when they are discussing the events between cho and harry it mentions that ron looks at herry shrewdly when he asks him what happend, I get the impression that ron is seeing more in harrys response than hermione. Assume dramatic voice Was what harry saw in his dream real.. Will the headmaster belive him... Will Rons dad survive... Tune in to the next nail biting edition of veggiegamers book club to find out. Previous quote was from the amazing Mr. blunden a British kids film from 70's I watch it every christmas

In last months book club Harry needed anger management and in this chapter it’s evident that Cho could need some therapy. Poor girl is only 16 and so traumatised. Do you think it’s possible to hate Umbridge any more at this point or will she get worse? The way she behaves in Hagrids class is disgusting.

"Hem Hem - Hagrid, who had never heard Umbridge's fake cough before, was gazing in some concern at the closest thestral, evidently under the impression that it had made the sound." I've always found that line really funny. The way Umbridge treats Hagrid as she observes his class has always been absolutely abhorrent to me. I'm on the Autism spectrum, and especially when I was younger I would sometimes have people speak to me in a similarly condescending way, seemingly assuming from the fact that I didn't always behave "normally" or know how to exist in social situations that I was somehow intellectually inhibited. I didn't always understand why some people would talk to me that way, and I think for that reason I've always kind of related to Hagrid in that scene and been as angry for him at Umbridge as Hermione is. In terms of your query about 1 vs 2 chapters moving forward, I will just say (with no spoilers) that the next two chapters do pair quite well, but also will probably each have a lot you will want to disccuss, so I'm sure people will be happy whichever choice you make :)

Such a realistic portrayal of what dreams are like

hayoo here we are again __________________ Ron getting snowballed in the face bwahahah (i'm not really evil, honest wink wink) some of the kids are a little bit miffed to see the return of Hagrid :( first time we get properly introduced to Thestrals. Probably the only time the Grifindors and the Slytherins agree on something, as Hagrid's has been known for springing wild and dangerous creatures upon the students. The image of meat ripping itself off the cow corpse and disappearing … yikes Umbitch's fake cough worried Hagrid as he thought it was one of Thestrals Talking to Hagrid as if he was a child?! UMBITCH!! (we'll make you slip up and swear one day lol) (ok I am evil) Hermione wishing she could see Thestrals Draco actually being funny about Ron possibly seeing the Quaffle better if he saw someone "snuff it" Ron laughing at Hermione for wanting to go fast down a snowy hill with planks of wood strapped to her feet the thought of Sirius pulling Christmas crackers with Keacher Ron and Hermione discussing with Harry about him and Cho kissing. I like both, but Not sure if I like this version or the film better. Mr Weasley getting got by the Harry-snake :(

This is one of my favourite Harry Potter fan-stories. Ron and Luna end up having a snog. Been a while since I read it, so can't remember if they stayed together. The main romance is between Draco and Hermione 😱 and it's very beautifully written. Draco: Phoenix Rising Chapter 1 Draco, a harry potter fanfic | FanFiction https://share.google/dgev2DyeS40HJuBgR
