-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

WHAT a great action set piece of an episode!! So it seems things aren't going the way I expected, but honestly, I am perfectly happy with that! :)

Poor... poor Ty Lee...

I didnt quite get what you meant at the first thing you Said at the end part right after the episode ended when zuko did something iroh had thought him with electrisity, what did you mean there?

PumpkinSparks

Good catch on Zuko implementing Irohs movements! I never noticed that, but I think you're right! I don't think Momo can carry a persons weight. It looked to me like he steadied Aang and then Aang used airbending to get up. When Aang and Toph played elevator for everyone they did the same motions, so I think they both earthbend. But as you noticed the platform was attached to the wall, so I think that truly is a limitation of earthbending. But you truly opened up a big can of worms with that question - that is something people have been debating for more than a decade ;) Not just the levitation question, but the limitations and theoretical possibilities of all bending styles. And some actually became reality in the show, some don't!

I'm so glad you're noticing how brilliant Sokka is! It would be much more obvious if he wasn't meant to be a comedy character from the start. He's the one to think outside the box and strategically. In my head canon, if he existed in real life he would be an engineer Also, the moment when Jet notices Iroh's steaming tea dives me chills

Hi Veggie! Believe me or not, when I saw the title of the YouTube video last week, I was thinking to myself — what a damn good title! I was even thinking to myself, a great title like that probably improved click-through rate! And I’m sure I’m not alone on that. Now I know I should be more vocal about my thoughts in the comments :)

VeggieGamer

Ok, so you know the motion that Iroh taught Zuko, to send electricity through his body? Zuko does this movement when fighting the riders, but instead of electricity, it was just normal fire (and naturally it isn't go through his body). So it is only the motion he did, but he used it to redirect fire. :)

VeggieGamer

Looking back now, I could be wrong, but if you have your own copy of the show, go to The Desert and it is around 4:09, where he seems to take the fire from the arrow and throw it back. Maybe I am reading too much into it, but it looks like the same technique to me! :)

I will take a look thank you

Attack on Titan mention! The giant wall did make me think of that. XD It's crazy how technologically advanced the Fire Nation is, especially compared to the other nations. I assume being able to generate their own fuel source with firebending is a big reason for that.

VeggieGamer

yeah, my head cannon is they are able to run countless forges to bend (literally, not bender-y) metal, so it makes complete sense how much metal they are able to produce for the war effort!

The way I think about earth bending is that it's most effective when your stance is rooted in place. We've seen people bend earth while in the air (take Xin Fu in 'The Blind Bandit' for instance), but only bend a small amount. We see Aang and Toph make an earth elevator to scale the walls of Ba Sing Se in this episode, but as you noted, they had to stay touching the wall. I think it would have been difficult for Toph to push a piece of earth across the water while she was on it in the last episode, but she probably could have raised an earth bridge. There might be exceptions to this that I don't remember, but I think it's a good rule of thumb.

Toph didn't appear in the live-action yet, but she will in season 2, which will release this year. She was already cast, and there's already a trailer. The actress said that she will be "A little older and slightly more feminine." This doesn't say anything about the blind jokes, but I fear you are probably right about them toning it way down.

Margarita Pizza

I agree that the Toph jokes don't seem disrespectful; it's more like they're poking fun at people who forget that she's blind. She's in on the joke.

CR Ash

Oh Veggie I'll let you know that you can watch the Live Action movie now, I think people haven't told you yet because they are trying to protect you from how awful it is 💀💀

Maia Brodsky

We did sort of get Jet's backstory in his first episode. If I recall, the Fire Nation burned his village and killed his family, or at least that's what was implied.

VeggieGamer

Yeah you are 100% right! I think that is where I keep catching myself, because I naturally do not trust him, even though he has every reason to hate the Fire Nation like he does. Such an interesting character, and I really want to believe he has turned a corner. I would never have guessed we would be getting Jet/Zuko in the show!!

VeggieGamer

Or maybe people are worried that I will love the movie so much, that I will realise the show has literally no chance of living up to it anymore and give up the project?

CR Ash

How... how could you figure it out? We have actually been hoarding the secret of life in the Last Airbender film so us fans say its so bad so no one will find it, I'm like Wan Shi Tong, He Who Knows 10000 Things!

hopefulSith

You know, I like star wars stuff and I just realised... In star wars there's an issue with people who don't like certain movies trying to ruin it for the people who do by complaining about the movie. But with last airbender, I've legitimately never heard anyone actually liked the movie, everyone just agrees its terrible haha.

Diego Zenhäusern

To your point on the limitations of earthbending: I think the problem last episode was mainly that bending gets more difficult with distance and so the seaflor in the middle of the gap would have been too far down, and thus impossible or at least very dicfficult for Toph to bend. Plus: Since Katara's way seemed to be working there was really no reason for Toph to be like: "We'll your way seems to work Katara. But I'm just better than you so we can do it with earthbending instead."

the attack on titan comment is so funny because people who have watched avatar say the same thing when watching aot for the first time (that the walls remind them of ba sing se) and the same applies vice versa haha (also would 100% tune in if you ever decide to react to aot in the future, its an absolutely incredible show)
