SPOILER ALERT! - If you have not watched the show before, don't read the following review until you have! :)

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I think it is safe to say, this one absolutely got me. Had the song in my head all day. Beautiful.

What a fasinating time to have such an episode!! It was great seeing each character have their own mini-adventure.

Iroh's was definitely my favourite, but please let me know which one yours was!!

Hope you had a great week, guys!!

Oh sugar honey iced tea. Been waiting a while for this. Its tissue time

Man here's the real hard hitter. It's a tall order to beat Iroh's story. I've watched this show since it aired, and I still cry. A timeless representation of carrying your grief with you. Such a good choice to watch this show, and I hope it leaves the deep impression in your heart as it has for all of us. 💜

Mako was Iroh's original voice actor, but he unfortunately passed away shortly after recording his lines for this episode.

Steven

This was the last thing that Mako ever voiced, which just makes this episode hit even harder

I was waiting for this one. And dear Veggie didn't disappoint as usual. No words can describe how I love this episode. Great reaction Veggie!!!

Veggie, I look forward to your reactions every single week. Whenever there's an Avatar or Harry Potter Book Club post - guarantee you've made my entire day. This episode never fails to make me cry - something about Mako was so magical and so perfect...it cannot be overstated. Such a simple song, a simple tune, and simple animation.. brought together to create such a magical moment.

Wow, such an amazing episode. I remember balling my eyes out during the Iroh scene when this first aired. And after watching this show about a dozen times since then, it still hits the same. Probably my favorite scene in any piece of media I've watched. Rest easy Mako. Great reaction as always! Glad you're feeling better :)

Nothing can beat Irohs story! It scoops your heart out and stomps all over it... in a very caring way. But while the ending is gut wrenching, his short really shows who he is at his core. He sees the good and the potential in nearly everyone, and will calmly help you without wanting anything in return! I really do appreciate Zukos story though. For once he was able to just be a teenager and he really seemed to enjoy that moment. He doesn't seem to be ready for that yet, but I'm happy for him nonetheless. And I love that Toph and Katara had that bonding moment and started to see things from the others perspective. But honestly, after Iroh my favourite is Momos (and it's not a huge gap) It's a bit of a silly story, but it's also incredibly endearing and up until this point we had some hints how much Momo and Appa love each other, but this really shows how great their bond really is! Also another scene where Momo hears human speech and just hears gibberish XD And the cabbage man finally gave up (?)

Iroh is my favorite character for a reason, I absolutely love him. I love how he was able to help everyone he came across (aside from the kids with the ball) I also still cry during leaves from vine as well. I knew we would be getting some tears from you during this episode, I agree momos was the right one to end on so we could all know Appa is out here somewhere and we need to find him. So excited for the next! ❤️

Cinnamon troll

Funny how the boy stopped crying. I'd cry even harder if someone sang me this song

to me that ending with the footprint is one of the examples that hit me emotionally even harder now that I watch the show so many years later again and also went to the live concert

Mako who is the voice for iroh actually cried for real beacuse he was soon going to die, he dadly died soon after due to cancer

It's a fantastic episode and anyone who is not tearing up with Iroh is not human. The picture of Lu Ten is based on young Mako which I think is a great tribute. I wanted to mention this for a while now, the show's original target audience is children between 8 and 12 years old. I always (and so have many others) admired the show runners' ability to explain difficult topics in a rather simple way and their faith in the kids to understand these topics. They didn't dumb it down, they made it age appropriate.

It's been 20 years or so since I first saw this episode, and Iroh's Tale still makes me tear-bend 🥹 The next episode is a tough one, please brace yourself. And on a semi-related note, please take care of your arm!

I am glad you Veggie didn´t find Zuko´s date Jin suspicious and thought she was a trap for Zuko set by either the Dai Li or Fire Nation. SOO MANY youtubers reacting and people in their comments think so. I never did and the tales too short for it anyway. -_-

Cari Ann

Veggie next week, skip reading the episode name if you can to avoid the spoiler

Since you can't look it up... [Verse 1] Leaves from the vine Falling so slow Like fragile tiny shells Drifting in the foam Little soldier boy Come marching home Brave soldier boy Comes marching home [Instrumental] [Interlude] Happy birthday, my son If only I could have helped you [Verse 2] Leaves from the vine Falling so slow Like fragile tiny shells Drifting in the foam Little soldier boy Come marching home Brave soldier boy Comes marching home

This may sound odd, but Iroh is kind of a role model for me. I am a therapist in training. A lot of us have been through deep suffering and have come out the other side wanting to help others through the same. Iroh embodies compassion, humility, and equanimity, and his unconditional love and support of Zuko helps Zuko grow.

Haven't seen it mentioned yet in the comments but technically only the Earth Kingdom is based on Chinese culture. The Fire Nation are based on Japanese culture, the Water Tribes are Inuit, and the Air Nomads were Tibetan.

You just KNOW Iroh was singing that song to Lu Ten when he was as small as that boy in Ba Sing Se.

Lisette C.

We *told* you it kept getting better and better Veggie ❤️ But I get why it's hard to believe before witnessing the greatness that is this show ❤️ That being said, this is one of my favorite episodes ❤️ Next week's as well... Might wanna pick a day where you aren't too emotional from other stuff to watch it though ❤️

PumpkinSparks

I obviously can't speak for Veggie, but I assumed it was a slip up on his part and he meant to say Asian. We talked quite a bit about the different cultures and their inspirations in the first book (especially the fire nation / Japan parallels) ... or he had a serious case of scatter brain and forgot XD

Ty

Everybody's gangsta till Iroh starts singing Leaves From The Vine

Jake M

It's absolutely not what you meant, but I heard "I'm going to go listen to that Soulja Boy song" at the end.... XD YOUUUUUUU!
