Hope you have had a great weekend (you may be getting 2 more videos today...)!

The music, Hans Zimmer the goat of film scores. Really he did a lot of great stuff, I also love his score for Gladiator and Interstella for example

Snowspeeders and Space Shuttles

Hi Veggie, what a wonderful surprise this reaction was today! In terms of checking out the rest of the movies, 2 & 3 are absolutely incredible. 4 & 5, seem to be a bit of a hit and miss with people, 5 especially. But given how much you enjoyed the Hobbit movies after watching LOTR, I really think you would enjoy them so I can only recommend them all. A note on the flags, being a bit of a naval history buff, correct me if I'm wrong here, but the blue flag with the union jack in the top right corner is the Naval ensign, it was flown by military ships with Royal Navy officers aboard. There was a similar style of flag that was red instead of blue for merchant ships. Also you are absolutely correct with it only being called a "union jack" on a ship. Named after the pole the flag was flown from being called the "Jackstaff"

I'm just half way through, but I really need to make myself something to eat and I already have too much on my mind. So, you get a halfway comment: You are correct in remembering that there is a Pirates ride. Actually it was a ride first, that was then the inspiration for the movie. The song they sing in here, is the music during the ride. And there are several scenes that are direct copies of bits on the ride. When they proposed this movie, everyone thought they were crazy. For one pirate movies were absolutely out of fashion at this point, and making a movie out of a Disney ride? Bonkers! In the beginning when they find Will in the water, they yell "man over board" because that is the name of the maneuvre. Obviously most of the time it needed to be used because someone literally fell over board, but it's the same everything you do when you find someone floating in the water. So someone in charge would yell "man over board" and everyone knew what to do. And no, the military leader on board is not the captain of the ship, just like the soldiers would usually not help sailing the boat. I also have the information stored in my head, that the portrayal of Long John Silver (yes Treasure Island, yes he's a pirate) is the blue print for what we think of as the quintessential pirate. Before that pirates usually were more of a swashbuckler type, like The Crimson Pirate - my favourite pirate movie before this one came along XD That being said, if you want to watch a Treasure Island movie: the muppet one is absolutly beloved by many! I would say the best Treasure Island by a long shot is Treasure Planet though... Using a row boat as a submarine thing absolutely does not work! The bouyancy would work against you and you would not be able to hold it to the ground, let alone walk with it. I believe they did a mythbuster about it and were only able to keep to the ground by weighing themselves down like crazy and weren't able to move anymore. And while were at it, you would be able to hold course with two men sailing a ship like the Interceptor, but the moment you had to change course or do any maneuvres like ancoring or docking you'd be in thick waters! Geoffrey Rush is an amazing actor. Beside this role most people would know him from the King's Speech, which is a phenomenal movie. I also love him in The Book Thief - so good!

Love this one! 🥰

Love this film! The first 3 make a fantastic trilogy, probably one of my favourites - you should definitely finish the series! I like the 4th film too, though I remember not liking the 5th one as much. You're in for a ride (pun intended) with these films ♥️

PumpkinSparks

I knew beforehand that this movie will provoke my Hollywood vs Corsetry pet peeve, and due to some comments of yours, oh boy yeah! I feel the mighty need to do a quick fashion history rant... Before that 2 quick things. While we're on the topic of fashion: that is a snazzy shirt! Before you even mentioned your outfit, I already made a mental note that that is a good look on you. And then with the suspenders? Yes! One thing never made sense to me. Bootstrap was sunk after the curse took effect. Wouldn't he just sink to the bottom with the canon, untie himself, and walk to the next island? Cause he would have been skeleton-zombie-dude at this point as well! Pet peeve time! CORSETS ARE NOT TORTURING DEVICES!!! I absolutely hate how they are depicted in movies and how therefore everyone "knows" how awful they were to wear and women couldn't breath and all that BS. I will not go into the difference between corsets and stays - that would be a whole essay and Hollywood doesn't care anyways. But they were the undergarments of their time. Their job was to support the upper body. Every woman wore them, that includes working women like maids, women on farms, laundresses, housekeepers, mothers of multiple children, etc. How plausible is it that non of them could breath? Elizabeth would have worn corsets since childhood, and the ones from London were not different than the ones they had in the Caribbean. The corset supports the bodice, and the silhouette is not achieved by reducing at the waist but by strategic padding on the outside. The waist looks small because it is in comparison to the rest! And before people comment "but what about tight lacing?" Was that a thing? Yes. Not so much at this time, and even when it was more prevalent (like the Victorean era) it was 1% of the 1% who did that. It's like people looking back at us in a 100 years and claiming we all had the same beauty regime and cosmetic surgery done like the Kardashians. Historic corsets are way more comfortable to wear than modern bras!!! Not the modern corsets you can buy now (they're awful and hurt and restrict), or the pseudo-historic corsets they usually have on movie sets that actresses rightfully complain about, but historically correct corsets and stays worn OVER a light underdress (something this movie actually showed correctly unlike many many other movies...)

So glad you gave Geoffrey Rush his flowers. He is truly amazing actor. Besides the more known roles he starred in The Best Offer and Shine. Definitely worth to check.

2:19 i mean Hans Zimmer. Legend. Also Ive been waiting for this! u cant just stop at movie 1! u have to watch all ofem! Especially since there have been rumors that JD caved for a 6th one! x: 9:46 ALL PotC movies have a post credit. 43:36 pretty sure 12+, i barley had to not bring adults with me to cinema xd 45:07 will never get over this plot hole ._. he should not be able to feel temperature! at most it could be a "reflex" (you know sometimes u will flinch or say "ouch" even tho it doesnt even hurt) 59:53 naw, easy cupcake! my friend and me are doing it all the time in "Sea of Thieves" ! XD 1:07:47 you will find out x: 1:50:14 well that means they shouldn't be able to miss, no? XD 1:57:25 Barbossa is prolly one of the most beloved character of the movie series (aside from jack) 2:02:02 you seem to have missed the point of specifically this song. its about "A PIRATE LIFE". which is a core theme in the show, and a question for multiple characters. For example GIBS, we saw him when Elizabeth was a kid, he was with the brits. then he was somehow aquainted with jack and is now a pirate. Will was the son of a pirate, grew up proper, but found out about his dead? will he return to his proper life? or will he become a pirate too maybe? what of elizabeth? if she is with will, willl she become a pirate too if he does? etc. So yea "A pirate life for me" is very core to the show, and not just "a randomly chose pirate song" XD 2:15:25 some of the filming overlapped, so Bloom had to go back and forth for some parts of the SECOND Lord of the Rings iirc 2:25:38 i mean, back in the days disney didnt fear death x: look at Mulan for example xd. 2:40:15 Johnny Depp IS Captain Jack Sparrow. iconic indeed 2:41:31 fun fact. JD would rent out his yacht/ship, and then go capture it in real life just for fun. 2:43:59 oh you didn't pick up on it: his "master" wasnt actually the master like the governor assumed. it was Will who was the blacksmith (and not just helper/apprentice) all along, which Norrington ofc knew. But will just played along "ofc i will tell master of the gratitude" xd you forgot the END CREDIT SCENE after all! XD Also i repeat, I'd love ur reactions to ALL the movies!

VeggieGamer

Oh, there are 2 end credit scenes? I do my review of the movie before checking out the one at the end, you may have missed it, sorry!!

Xeph

To answer your question about the age rating of the movie, I believe Pirates of the Caribbean was the first PG-13 movie (and subsequent series) released under the Disney name. I remember people talking about it at the time. Of course these days Disney has released other PG-13 movies as well.

Ty

Nice seeing you give props for Geoffrey Rush's performance as Barbossa. Everyone always talks about how amazing Johnny Depp's performance as Captain Jack Sparrow is, but imo Geoffrey Rush was equally as great.

Flufux

If you wanna know what happened to Jack the Monkey, then there's actually a post-credits scene showing what happened to him. There's actually a post-credits scene in every Pirates of the Caribbean movie.

VeggieGamer

Sorry Flufux! If you go right to the end of the video, I include that scene (I was so happy XD). I wanted to give my end review before checking it out. :)

Ruins of Wonderland

This movie changed my brain chemistry as a child 😂 the entire scene where Elizabeth learns about the curse, Barbossa's line "you best start believing in ghost stories Miss Turner; you're in one" was the hardest line ever to my little brain 😭 🤣 seriously, so fn metal haha. This series will always hold a spot in my heart, always a pirate in my heart, n I could ramble literally forever about all the details many already covered here in the comments, but I'm so excited to see you continue the series - highly recommended. The later movies don't really hold to the og trilogy but I still love them cuz they're still fun and it's an example of a Hollywood blockbuster that in my opinion you can actually see where all the money went to for the making of - they really go for it in the sets, choreography, just overall production and I objectively love any series/show that does this. I look forward to you checking out the rest, and see what else is coming on the channel as you're likely to wrap up many current series this year. It's gonna be fun 😄 💜

Alex Hopps

Got to the halfway break, got to be said im 100% on board with the braces thing. I spent years struggling with belts and trousers still falling down, little did i know the solution had been around for centuries. I generally keep mine below the top layer too, but have recently started wearing them over shirts for gigs, kinda fits the whole folk singer/ banjo player vibe. Anyway, back to movie. Thanks for improving my Sunday

Triene

I’d love to see you watch 2 and 3 but I’m so excited you even did one. Gonna watch it right now while working on my costume! If you did the MCU I’d simply pass away 💕 love for you and woozie as always

Triene

That line definitely goes hard and is in the culture. I think they had it in the trailer. I hate trailers because they put too much in them, but at least that line is awesome so I get why they did it

Ruins of Wonderland

I know just what you mean. The trailer to this got me so hyped I dragged my dad to take me to see it (needed an adult 😭 😂) but trailers can just totally ruin things like that, tho I understand why. However I still say to this day the trailers to the og suicide squad were better than the movie 😭 😭 😭 but that's rare. It's a shame but anyway, I still love that line no matter how many times I've seen this. 10/10 lol

Lord-LemonHead

I would definitely love to see more reactions, at least through the third film. The fourth and fifth are what I like to call 'DLC' films; one-off adventures that don't have much bearing on the main trilogy's story but still a fun way to spend more time with the characters.

Cari Ann

I definitely think you should watch all of them, I love the first 3.

krissy

Like much of the rest of the comments, I’d love to see you react to the next two films! The first three films play out a complete arc for our characters! The subsequent movies kind of veer off into different stories/characters.

Tiegan

Ooh I haven’t seen this so this will be my first time! Glad to watch it with you veggie 💙

LouShirley

"Mark my words." "Consider them marked." I love Norrington 😂 his delivery of his lines is my favourite

Aniiee

Ah, Pirates of the Caribbean 1! My second favourite pirate movie in life (first is Treasure Island from the 1990s with a teeny tiny Christian Bale). I just kinda want to add, as a historical fashion enthusiast, that, well, one, Elizabeth isn't (shouldn't be) wearing a corset, she's supposed to be wearing stays. But that little nitpick aside, I just want to point out that corsets are actually very, very, comfortable IF they're not the high-fashion variety (as it of course is in this instance in the film). Corsets were used the same way, and for the same reason, as modern bra's. Every day use for support and comfort. Elizabeth's comment only makes sense in the "this is high fashion" aspect, but it kinda makes it sound as if she's not wearing a corset/stays every day, which she definitely was, if we go the historical route. Also, yes. More Pirates, please. At least Dead Man's Chest and At World's End.

Ren

I have seen a lot of reactions to this movie (and the rest of the series) and this reaction is my number one favorite and I BEG you PLEASE watch at least the second and third, please please pleeeeeeeeease!

jolt45

Hey, so I thought I'd take some of the locations in this movie and ground them in the real world real quick. First off, Port Royal was a real port (where Elizabeth, Will, and Norrington all live). It was once the largest trading hub in the Caribbean but it was destroyed by an earthquake and subsequent tsunami in 1692. Kingston, Jamaica is now the city that makes use of the same bay and harbor Port Royal once did. You can even visit the ruins of Fort Charles, presumably where Jack is held in the movie. Jack Sparrow is based on a real world pirate named Jack Rackham (1682-1720) who would've been only 10 when Port Royal was destroyed. Therefore we can probably assume the movie takes place in the 17th century a decade or two before the real Jack Rackham terrorized the seas. Btw, he is incorrectly portrayed as the inventor of the famous pirate flag known as the "Jolly Roger" (skull and crossed swords). In reality, pirates flew all manner of flags usually deceptive in nature. Tortuga is a real island in what is now Haiti. It was a hive of piracy in the 17th century so its portrayal, while hyperbolic, isn't entirely inaccurate. It sits a couple hundred miles Northeast of Port Royal/Kingston. Isla de Muerta is primarily fictional island which means "Island of Death" or "Death Island". There is a real "Isla El Muerto" in Mexico's Gulf of California but its obviously not the same thing. Oddly enough, the island from Jurassic Park is called something similar, "Isla Muerta". It is also fictional and sits in an island chain west of the Costa Rican mainland.

Re Bootstrap: We don't know how quickly / in what steps the curse took effect. Sounds like they threw him over board soon after Jack, so probably they only just had gotten the treasure. And he probably wouldn't be saying they wronged Jack if he already knew how bad the curse was going to get. So quite possible he was still mortal when sunk. But even if not, there probably were more ropes involved than just bootstraps. I doubt they'd have been able to hold a cannon. So probably he was properly tied so as to not be able to untie himself. Re Corsets: I may be mistaken, but I don't this this film displays corsets as torture devices in general. Just that the one Elizabeth wore in the beginning was quite tight. There is another commenter here who pointed out that, just like you said, they'd generally fit well, but as always it's not unlikely that high fashion ones could be uncomfortable. That's still the same today, after all. And while I can't personally speak to modern bras, I gather from frequent comments that quite a few women don't find them comfortable either, at least after a while, and are happy to be rid of it in the evening. That's all to say, just because every woman did wear it, doesn't mean that all found it comfortable. And especially doesn't mean a dress you bought in London would necessarily fit your daughter in the Carribeans. So that scene should be far less unlikely or unrealistic as you make it out to be.

CR Ash

I am soooo happy you are watching this Veggie, literally non-stop classic reactions from you ♡

VeggieGamer

I hope I did include the post credit scene! When I click it appears to be there, but the internet is as it is! If you think it is missed out, please skip to the VERY end and let me know!

NightWolfNym

I think the original trilogy is a must watch! I enjoy 4&5 too.

Diego Zenhäusern

I really agree with the comments here that 2 and 3 are must watches! I'm also really in favor of you covering 4 and 5 as well. I personally really enjoy 4 and I think 5 is at least worth the watch to complete the set (though it isn't a movie I'd watch on it's own if I'm not doing a full rewatch of the series)

loekie ouwehand

Thank you so much for reacting to this movie. I love all of them, really. As for Jack doublecrossing the navy th the scene with Barbossa, he sort of did, but he had told Norington to get back to the boat and shoot the cannons at the pirates. Norrington didn't do this. Jack wanted to end the curse and help WIl, I think, but in order to do that he needed to get the other pirates out of the cave, he had to seem to work with Barbossa. Had Barbossa sent the men out in the boats, and had Norington gone back to the Dantless the cannons could have bought Jack time to end the curse and save Will. I think it was Jack's intention to deal with this with a few deaths as possible, it just didn't quite work out how he had planned.

PohjolanAkka

This was really fun to see you react to pirates. These have been some of my favourite films always and I really love them all and therefore ofcourse would be awesome to see your reactions for the rest of them. Like some others have said the first trilogy is a masterpeace, 4 is very good and 5 has a lot of problems, but it still has some really great stuff! I'm also so glad you appreciated Norrington's character so much, I feel like he is such an underrated character. And Barbossa, he's always been my favourite character in this movie! Btw your with braces look is mighty fine! And also another pirate film that is absolutly fantastic I recommend is Sinbad by Dreamworks!

Chaos The Kidd

Yay! One of my favorite reactors watching one of my favorite movies!!! I can't wait for the next three. I'm sure you'll love them. I'm personally not a fan of the 5th, but you'll probably like that one as well. -EDIT: Good to see someone else who loves Norrington. I see him get so much hate.
