####### EPISODE SPOILER REVIEW BELOW! APPARENTLY SOME OF YOU ARE WATCHING FOR THE FIRST TIME ALONG SIDE ME, SO PLEASE DON'T READ BEYOND THIS POINT UNTIL YOU HAVE SEEN THE EPISODE YOURSELF! ######

------

This is our first oppitunity to discuss Anthony Head after his passing, so there is an extended tribute to him at the start, and then after the episode we check out SMG's post about the news.Loved this one! It packed a lot in, and we got some solid Slayer lore! I have to be honest, I think Buffy's "Everyone sucks except me" speech was on the money. What do you think?

Love you, guys~

I can understand the perspective watching a project by and possibly profiting off of a recently passed actor can range from in poor taste to downright ghoulish, I can also see how it can be a tribute or memorial to their work, especially if you were a fan or they were particularly influential. That being said, Repo! The Genetic Opera is very fun and should definitely be added to a future list. One of my favorite pieces of media starring Sarah Brightman.

In a way I'm kind of glad Giles wasn't in this one because the loss of Anthony is still too painful at the moment, having grown up with this show 💔 All of the cast's tributes to him have been beautiful. I understand where Buffy's coming from with her speech and she has some good points, but where she loses me is calling Chloe stupid and weak for taking her own life. Whether she's frustrated or not, it's a pretty horrible thing to say. It's one of my least favourite moments of hers. The First Slayer's name is Sineya, it's only said once in the show, briefly and without context: during the enjoining spell in 4x21, Primeval, when the Scoobies are calling in the source of the Slayer's power to make Buffy strong enough to take on Adam. During the spell, Willow refers to Buffy as "daughter of Sineya, first of the Ones". I've got a full collection of Buffyverse comics (they cost me an arm and a leg, but it's worth it lol), and there's a one-shot that tells more of Sineya's story in the Tales of the Vampires collection. The origin of Slayers has been foreshadowed for quite a while. Dracula told Buffy that her powers were "rooted in darkness" and implied that she didn't understand her history. The first Watchers forcing Sineya to be violated by a demon's spirit unfortunately lines up with the contemporary Watchers' Council and their patriarchal disregard for the Slayers as individuals. Thanks Veggie :)

Yeah I can fully understand seeing that line by Buffy as being horrible. And I 'do' agree, and at that point I felt she was 'putting it on' to wake the potentials to the fact they could be next. But I have also met real people that when they hear that someone has done that to themselves, their instant instinct is to call them an idiot. It is something I have never understood, but like I say, I have met a few people whose natural response is that (not saying that is what Buffy is doing here, of course).

Small detail in this episode - I LOVE that they show a pile of English-to-other-language dictionaries in that opening scene, and I HATE that we only see that in a dream and not in any real-life scene. It makes complete sense that there would be language barriers among the Potentials, who are supposedly being gathered from all over the world, and that COULD have been interesting. But the only way that idea is actually used is to designate poor Chao-Ahn as ‘the one who doesn’t speak English’ and make jokes at her expense.

Love Dr. Strangelove! Absolutely gutted about Anthony Head 😭💔 His daughters are in The Inbetweeners and the Dungeons and Dragons movie. I can't imagine them losing their mum only a few months ago then their dad 🥺 It was the quote from "The Gift" when Buffy jumps. SMG said that Anthony dressed up as frank n furter and performed on set for her birthday, that's why he's in that outfit. This is a great episode. (team Buffy lol) All the best to you Veggie, I love S7 too. ❤

I think it is supposed to be something you dislike, to be fair. It's Buffy cracking under pressure and saying/doing something pretty awful.

We never saw Toe Knee Head die, so there's a chance he'll come back in a few episodes' time, right? Right? No? 😭

Sharing because you asked for opinion on Buffy's speech, apologies if TMI: I've always seen myself as an idiot and a coward for not succeeding where Chloe did, so it's interesting that Buffy (and, unfortunately, large parts of society) have the opposite view. It puts a damper on what is supposed to be a powerful speech because I can't get past that part. Honestly, I just don't like the doom and gloom of this season- there are very few light/feel good episodes like the days of Band Candy. The Shiny- sorry- Saving Grace is still yet to come, though.

Such sad news, I really didn't want to believe it when I first saw 😢. Merlin is such a good series, and he plays such a different character from Giles, it's so good seeing his range. There are also sooo many guest appearances in that show of big recognisable faces, would be a great one to watch at some stage on the channel if you didn't really see it before.
