####### EPISODE SPOILER REVIEW BELOW! APPARENTLY SOME OF YOU ARE WATCHING FOR THE FIRST TIME ALONG SIDE ME, SO PLEASE DON'T READ BEYOND THIS POINT UNTIL YOU HAVE SEEN THE EPISODE YOURSELF! ######

------

This one absolutely FLEW by! Fasinating backstory for Spike, it actually made me feel very uncomfortable (in... a 'good way'?). And lovely seeing a certain someone get a quick cameo! :) (Oh! As well as a certain someone else getting mentioned)!

Love you, guys~

I've been waiting for this episode!

I always figured part of Spike's respect for Joyce was from him missing his own mom. He's very human compared to other vampires even when soulless. As horrible as it was for him to turn his mom, I do think he thought he was saving her from dying from her illness (contrast what happened with Angel's family 😓). (On Vox Machina, I've only seen Season 1 of the animation, but Percy is my absolute favorite. 😁 I thought Scanlan would annoy me at first, but I ended up liking him a lot more than I thought I would! And I'd love it as a reaction series!)

I would imagine that there was a seed of truth in what Spike's mom was saying to him. She could probably see that he was romantic and too shy to actually act on it, and that she was his primary source of companionship. It would be a pretty normal parental worry to feel like he was missing out on a better life because he was too content to sit home with her. And when she's turned into a vampire, she even says that maybe being cruel was the only way to get him to leave the nest, essentially. Without a human soul to restrain her, the mind and memory act on that long suppressed impulse. And because she's a vampire, the cruelty is fun and she goes farther and farther with it until it's too much. And then there's Spike/William. It really is interesting that he retained the desire to have his mother with him. Of all the vampires we've seen on the show, he shows the most capacity for something approaching actual love even when he doesn't have a soul. It's still fundamentally selfish, but he is capable of *wanting* to love people well, and we don't see any other vampire really display that capacity. It's fascinating.

One of my favs of S7 and of the show! 🙌 I've seen people talking about how they dislike Buffy (the character) in S7 and I'm just thinking how much I love her here and how far she has come 🥹 ❤

It's a shame that our first episode with Giles since the tragic news of Toe Knee Head is probably the episode with him being the biggest prick since he drugged her for the Watcher's test back in season 3.

Just wanted to point out, limited imDB credits don't necessarily mean someone ceased acting. They may have gone into almost exclusively stage or audio work- it doesn't track theatre roles, pantomimes, radio plays, audiobooks, adverts, etc. Firefly definitely seems the natural replacement to Buffy for me, and it's only 14 episodes long so you're not tying yourself into as long a contract as you did with the Buffyverse XD

Firefly is the natural progression, but i do not think it is the best progression. should get a non Whedon show to expand the viewer base.
