Veggie you the man your work is appreciated

One of the biggest memes of the show is coming up in the next episode. I also recommend you watch the next 2 episodes together.

Joseph_Darke7

just a heads up the next 2 episodes are a 2 part story

Eight Trigramz

Def need to watch Legend of Korra.... its amazing

This is by far my favourite episode in the entire show, outside of the finale, which is an unfair comparison by default. There is SO much in here. Zuko needing to realign his inner drive, it's not just plug-and-play with him, changing sides takes effort and introspection. Him and Aang functioning as a team like they grew up as brothers. The whole sun warrior lore. When Aang touches the first flame and realizes it feels like holding a tiny life in his hands. His entire outlook changes in that moment. Him being actually a great firebender by nature, as opposed to earth. THE DRAGONS AND THE DANCE. The true meaning of fire in beauty, energy and life. It's art. Some Iroh lore to top it all off. This ep hits so many important beats plot-wise, emotionally, hell, even philosophically. It's perfect. Almost twenty years later and I can't stop gushing over it.

I will also suggest that you watch the next two episodes together :) I love your reactions to this show, Veggie! Completely worth it to resup to the patreon for this show :) <3

Lisette C.

I love that your prediction of Sokka and Zuko is that they are gonna be great friends, lol... It might be rough, buddy 😂❤️

felipeluzz

Zuko does say that Sozin started the tradition of "hunting dragons for glory". I know he says "conquer" later, but I think the hunting part makes it clear that they killed them, especially since they went extinct. Also, yeah I recommend you watch the next two together. If you want to do multi-parts separate it's your choice of course, but they were always broadcasted as long specials back then, and only separated for syndication and the like

Erica

I can’t believe I never made the echo chamber connection 😅 reason #3950 why I enjoy your reactions so much

James McCarthy

Awesome episode, like the libary this one feels close to an Indianna Jones film (:

James McCarthy

I love the firebending philosophy being expanded/changed, from fire is destruction in the early books to the truth that fire is life and energy at heart but can be used for destruction. I think Jeong Jeong could really do with meeting the Masters he seems so broken with thinking fire is only destruction now.

James McCarthy

One thing of note the Masters are gigantic compared to Roku and Sozins dragons. I presume these two are ancient possibly older than the Sun tribe civilisation they may be the living original firebenders or their close descendents. Whether they are a special breed that can live so long and grow gigantic compared to the others is unknown

James McCarthy

Final thought, it is not stated but i presume Lightning bending was created to kill dragons. Dragon fire would be a match for any normal firebending and they likely cannot be harmed by fire but lightning is death and is the only way one could match them. Lightning in Avatar is shown to be an extremely rare skill closely guarded by the Royal Family so there are likely very few people that ever earned the title of "Dragon"

James McCarthy

Book 3 is such peak content for the second half (:

James McCarthy

He is going to love how the world and lore develops (:

Erica

This makes total sense to me. And to add to this idea from an ethics standpoint, Ozai and Azula have already shown that the inner calm and emotional control needed to bend lightning can also mean removing conscience and empathy from the equation. Maybe it’s just me, but I feel like that would be essential to taking down a being so revered and respected by your culture for so many centuries.

Madikuma95

I've always loved that AtLA's dragons have wings! Usually Chinese-style dragons lack wings, but can still fly (via magic). But in AtLA, the only creatures that can fly without wings are the sky bison, because they're airbenders! Since the dragons are firebenders, they need wings to fly!

Gabs

I always thought Fire Nation Man was a nod to the Iron Sheik.

PumpkinSparks

That is such a good point! I never thought about that, but it makes totally sense!!!

PumpkinSparks

same! I also never heard anyone else make that connection, but the moment Veggie pointed that out? 🤯

PumpkinSparks

I think it's interesting that Sozin, who we know had a dragon companion himself, started the tradition of hunting dragons for glory! What happened, buddy?!? Did his companion die and he then decided to kill all the other dragons as well? (well, there are some steps missing, that doesn't make sense...) Or did his dragon rebel against him once he started the war, so he raged war on all dragons? Or, getting a bit darker, did he start this tradition with his own dragon companion?

JRUndercover

Hello, JR here. Great reaction, I loved your various (and sometimes correct!) theories about who the Firebending Masters were going to be. I was watching keenly for your reaction to a few key moments and you didn't disappoint, including picking up on the shock that Iroh supposedly hunted down the last dragon. I seriously think that Netflix missed a trick by adapting this story and not creating a new story in this world, and I think the best live action Avatar show would be the story of Iroh's life from the start of his career as a general up to the first sighting of the Avatar at the South Pole. It'd be amazing to start with a charismatic, jovial heir to the Fire Nation throne as he goes out to conquer the Earth Kingdom, being generally the lovable Iroh we know today but making poor ethical choices or not taking the suffering of others outside the Fire Nation seriously (like the flashback where he chuckles about burning down an Earth Kingdom city). Then we'd watch him slowly grow, become disillusioned with the death of his son, and go out into the world on quests such as 'hunting' the last dragon/s. I'd watch the hell out of that. Anyway, point is, loved hearing your thoughts on this one. Something I'm not sure you noticed (or if you did, maybe just didn't feel was worth commenting on?) was the specific chant that the Sun Warriors use when calling for the Masters. It's one we've heard before, but this is our first time hearing it as diegetic sound in-world. Worth having another listen to that part if you're not sure what I mean. Also, I'm very excited to see your reaction to Matilda! It's not something I've ever considering seeking out reactions to, but it's a charming film, and I think it'll suit your tastes very well.

mizu

hello, mizu here! this one is one of the most beautiful episodes for the firebending masters scene and i’m so happy we’ve gotten to this point, especially because we have know officially met all the first benders of each element: the sky bisons (air), the badgermoles (earth), the moon (water) and now finally the dragons (fire) !! :D so looking forward for the next two episodes, they are AWESOME !!

Ghostwheel

Hello. Ghostwheel here. Veggie, the original benders were the moon and the ocean, so maybe you meant the koi fish in the northern tribe when you said the fish. After the vision from the firebending masters, Zuko doesn't grunt while firebending. He was always grunting on each firebending move before. The Sun warriors exchange fire with each other like it's water! Finally, did you observe that the music for the firebending masters intro is the same as that of the end credits?

Alex Hopps

I feel like the term echo chamber within the context of that joke is a much newer term. At least its something ive only heard in recent years

Alex Hopps

A 2 parter 2 singles And the 4 part final Im actually getting emotional about getting to the end. Really is one of the greatest shows of all time

Gabs

I meant more as the persona - an Iranian portraying an Arab Sheik in the USA, where both nations were basically just "the poor guys who sit on our oil". Fire Nation Man, an Earthbender in the earth bending capital, portraying a Fire nation citizen in a country that is half occupied by the Fire nation... I mean, he was written to be a heel.

Rey's Got Plans

Hello Veggie, Rey's Got Plans here 👋🏼😅 2 parter for boiling rock together, and 4 part finale together! Font mind waiting, it'll be worth it, take breaks for the finale but it's better to see it as a movie!

James McCarthy

Yes good addition, it would require complete dettachment to inheritence and spiritual connect just pure energy and will no emotion

Diego Zenhäusern

Hi Lisette, Diego here.🙋🏼 And I see what you did there...🙃😅

Diego Zenhäusern

Hi, Diego here.🙋🏼 Just wanted to tellyou how much I love your reactions...and your obsession with Fire Nation Man!😅

Lisette C.

Tried to be subtle about it, lol 😂❤️

Leah Boerigter

Hello, Leah here. Love that you're doing Korra. Would love to see your reaction to the Avatar Aang Movie trailer. Not sure if you remembered after editing, but the first waterbender was the moon who pulled the ocean. They were confined to the form of fish when they crossed from the spirit world. So basically, old-timey water benders were like,"wow, look at the tides, I want to try that" lol. Loved the reaction. Looking forward to the two-parter and Matilda. Take care everybody.

Embran

Jeong Jeong should hear the philosophy of Sun Warriors. He might be less dismissive of the element Fire.

Dorran

This is one of my favorite episodes... no joke, but that scene with the dragons brings me to tears
