IT'S HAPPENING. IT'S HERE. THE BEGINNING OF MY 3 FAVORITE EPISODES! I am LOCKED IN. Thanks so much Veggie! P.S Korra the Explorer sent me. 🤣

Ruins of Wonderland

"Roku's been on his holidays" 😭 in his defense, we did severe our avatar state

Mai and Ty Lee are so interesting. I don't think there were any true friendship towards Azula from neither. When we first meet Ty Lee she was quite aprehensive towards Azulas presence and seemed to "decide" that fate wants her to go with Azula after she tormented Ty Lee under the guise of wanting a better show and basically threatened to burn the circus down. Mai just wanted out of her rut and away from her parents. Even in the flashback Azula seemed to treat them more like play things than friends. And they went along with it cause she's the princess and I could imagined were told to be her companions. And now? Mai didn't say she cares more for Zuko than for Azula. But that she loves him more than she fears her - that was always the dynamic. And I think the same is true for Ty Lee: Mai is her one actual friend, and she loves her more than she fears Azula. At least that is my read of the situation...

On the matter of Critical Role: You are absolutely fine with watching M9 considering where you are in the campaign. Even with the changes they did to make the story more streamlined, season 1 isn't even close to your point. Beau isn't based on Korra! Keyleth was based on the idea of Avatar. And with Beau a lot of people see a visual similarity to Sokka. I can kinda see it in the campaign art, the animation art is more clearly similar. I actually saw them live 2 weeks ago in Berlin and Marisha was asked about that in the Q&A: she made it very clear that that totally wasn't her intention at all, and she didn't see it until Critters started to make jokes about it. Also apparently there are some reactors who watched the trailer for the new Avatar movie, and asked why Beau is in it, so we've gone full circle 😂 And yes, Tary being taught the names of everyone is a scene I rewatch a lot!!! Pure serotonin

"And did you know that Vex and Vax are twins?" "I could tell from the bone structure, and the contempt."

Ty Lee and Mai grew up with Azula, they knew exactly how she would react to betrayal. There's a small moment in the episode where it shows them as children, Ty Lee is doing gymnastics and Azula just pushes her over. Don't forget, Azula also ripped Ty Lee away from her dream job in the circus by threatening bodily harm. "I love Zukko more than I fear you" is my favorite line in the whole show. Thank you for the video! 💜

Steven

your reaction to Ty Lee and Mai's betrayal was pretty much exactly the same as mine when i first watched XD amazing episode and it keeps getting better

Cari Ann

2 memes from this 2 parter. ‘That’s rough buddy’ from zuko and Azula doing the calculation of Mai loving zuko more then she fears her. I really love the scene with the girls too.

James McCarthy

Some crazy events in the last few episodes and it is very nice to see Zuko bond with members of the team.

James McCarthy

I do not know if you have recorded the final yet but headsup it is a four part final and if you do not want to post all parts together (it would be cool but a pain i am sure) it does split nicely in half story wise

James McCarthy

The warden is a fun character. Reminds me of the earth prison warden but in contrast this one stands by his beliefs and is tough but seemingly fair. He imposes order but when he gets tripped by Sokka's rather it would have been easy to last out a physically or through duties punish the prisoners but he walks it off instead showing reason.

James McCarthy

Big events with Mai and Ty lee interesting how the penalty for betrayal is execution and Azula is ready to carry it out personally when Mai betrays her but as soon as Ty lee does she is completely stunned and descalates to having them imprisoned instead since she does not know how to process losing them both being completely blindsided.

James McCarthy

So the firenation prisoner was content to just leave "his girl and best buddy" there in prison during the second attempt. Seems harsh afterall he messed up the plan not them

Rey's Got Plans

Veggie! I was planning to binge Buffy at some point, but I've never seen it before. The bit you knew, if I watch your recations will it spoil it? Loved the recation, it's my favourite show of all time, all we've been through, and the most hilarious nackground characters ever 😂

VeggieGamer

hey Rey! Honestly, I think I give 'spoiler warnings' before saying things, but the episode I saw is pretty huge and a massive part of a shift in the show. So honestly, I think it may be worth checking out the show beforehand! The episode is genuinely massive and had a profound effect on me when it came to events that happened in my own life soon after. So I would say - check out the show, then my reactions. On a sidenote - sorry if I got stroppy in an earlier comment from you. I am going through stuff, but I feel I was pretty unpleasant in an earlier exchange, and I am truly sorry for that. I always appreciate your comments!

Declan

Don't forget the unaired pilot as well!

Personally I don't really like the idea of rewatching the first episode before the finale. Only because the episode right before the 4-parters is such a perfect set up to the ending of the series that I think watching something else between it and the finale may ruin the impact a bit

Michael Smith

So excited to get to the end. I had to finish it again on my own. LOL. Looking forward to seeing your reaction to it all. No spoilers but it will be right up your alley. KsSmith

I think what makes Mai’s flip on Azula particularly great is the fact that most of the time she comes off as disinterested and uncaring. When you think about it, the only person she really openly shows care and/or emotion toward (including anger), IS Zuko. On one hand, it’s a surprise that she’s taking a stand on something at all. On the other hand, of course that stand would be for him Also I LOVED your avatar reference in the Matilda reaction lol

jolt45

"You miscalculated. I love Zuko more than I fear you." is one of the best lines in the show given everything we know about Azula and her relationship with Zuko. Ty Lee taking Azula down is just *chef's kiss*. I knew you'd like this two-parter seeing as you're a Sokka and Suki fan.

Logical Dreamer

These episodes are so good. I love Zuko and Sokka's friendship so much, but I have to say the next episode is my favorite out of the Zuko in the Gaang episodes (aside from the finale) so excited to see you react it. Honestly, a lot of the things you wish and like about this series they emphasize or touch on in the Live Action series. Its not the same as the cartoon and thats okay. It's its own thing and is really enjoyable. I hope maybe after Korra you will visit it. <3

Chimpman

They touch on it by sacrificing the characters lmao. The live action is just bad. Full stop.

Logical Dreamer

In your point of view, but there are people who like it. Veggie might be one of those people, we wont know unless he sees it or he will hate it and wish he never saw it just like the movie. Either way, its up to him to decide.

Shadowwolf21687

That pose that Azula was doing on the Gondola roof was not pushups,it was Pilate.

This ending has been set up ever since Ozai's angels were introduced back in S2E3. Remember Zuko's childhood memories? They grew up together in the royal palace, Mai and Ty Lee are the only children of fire nation high nobility around Zuko's and Azula's age. They're the only ones Azula ever considered friends, but because she is a psychopath and also massively insecure, she always needed to control them through manipulation and fear. Even back in "Zuko Alone", we see how she clearly identifies how her brother and Mai have blossoming feelings for each other, and she plays a joke on it to humiliate them both and keep them in line. Can't have anything between the princess and her playthings now, can we? I imagine getting out of that environment and into the circus was the first bit of freedom from abuse Ty Lee ever experienced, and how does Azula come back into her life? By literally burning down her safety net, just to remind her who holds her reins. Straight back into the abusive relationship we go. The sad thing is, the girls probably truly consider Azula their friend, because they never knew anything different. That's why they take so long to come around. But by now, we have reached a point where they both have seen enough of the world, and especially how team avatar stands up for each other, to recontextualize their friendship with Azula. This episode is just where the bubble bursts. Mai has an entire inner character arc going on. Why has Zuko betrayed his country? What moves him to join the gaang? She's figuring out her answer to those in this very episode and in the end, that's why she has zero issues deciding that her love for Zuko is more important, Ty Lee instantly jumps on the bandwagon because she'd rather risk that than Azula's constant abuse. THE PEAK WILL NOT STOP BY THE WAY.

The last scene is in my top 3 scenes in the whole series. It perfectly captures so many emotions at once. But the big one is the love overcoming the fear. A brilliant turning point for Mai. And a huge moment for the show as a whole. Tai Lee stepping in to protect her friend because she knows that Azula would do horrible things to her brings a tear to my eye every time.

The Mai/Azula/Ty Lee stand-off is one of my absolute favorite parts of the show ❤️❤️ And I have always found it fascinating the way they draw the (usually expressionless) Mai's eyes in this episode... There are three distinct scenes that comes to mind... When Zuko escapes the prison cell and closes the door in front of her - the rage and betrayal there... When she looks over her shoulder at Zuko on the gondola while saving them - the little "you seeing what I do for love?"-look... And when Ty Lee takes down Azula - the absolute surprise in her eyes, because she genuinely didn't think Ty Lee would stand with her against Azula ❤️ This scene is definitely one of the reasons why I love Mai ❤️

Leah Boerigter

Hey Veggie, I know you enjoyed the last moments of Ozai's Angels, but personally my favorite serious moment was Hakoda seeing his kids. Imagine steeling yourself to prepare to survive the worst prison in the fire nation, with only the hope that a group of children (including your own) end the war and you can see them again. Plus I love the joke of Zuko not remembering Suki all the from the first book. The little, "Nice to see you again" is so not the Zuko she knew.

Jes

Boiling rock, the next episode and the finale are the absolute best episodes in the whole show

hopefulSith

I really like the warden character in this, because it's another bad guy that's not just 'comical villainous coward'. I love how we get all kinds of antagonists; and not just in the big named characters. Right or wrong, the warden clearly believes in what he does and is willing to give his life for it. Whether that's just pride, or a belief in his job, he at least shows he's willing to back his words.

Deadshot1999

After this series is ended you should watch either the new movie thats coming out or start Legend of Korra. And after that check out the Netflix series of the last airbender. Book 3 should probably be out by then.

Son of Shadows

I have so much to say, but it's all up hill from here. Then again, I coulda said that about 55 episodea ago I cry so much for like every episode. Even this one, I'm gonna bawl my eyes out for the finale, it's been such a wonderful journey, and it's filled my heart with joy seeing how much you've come to love this series and our set of characters

Kethlas

So they freed a fire nation guy, who was in the top prison designed for the most dangerous, high profile prisoners. Chit Sang doesn't really give me the vibes of a dissident or a political prisoner, so the question is, what did he do to be considered one of the most dangerous criminals in Fire Nation? And yeah, they just set him free in Earth Kingdom.

Caleb day

so excited for Korra!

Diego Zenhäusern

As someone who watches Buffy alongside with Veggie I can confirm that he gave spoiler warnings before talking about what he knew of the show. So I for my part jumped ahead at that point and wasn't spoiled.🤔🙂

Charm9117

Hey Veggie once you finish this series you should do the Avatar movie that just came out

Stan Flamey

So i just saw the new avatar movie and i have to say, i really recommend watching it before korra, as korra kinda spoils most of the films plot
