Hi guys!

... Another long one XD

These chapters were excellent though, so we have a lot to discuss!  I take your comments and questions at the end of the video, I am tempted to split them into separate videos in future, I am wondering what you think?  Either way I hope you enjoy and are having a great week!

Oh btw, I had to delete a few comments before starting the Book Club section as they weren't all relative to the chapters we are currently covering, so sorry if yours didn't make it in (the vast majority did though, so don't worry if you are on subject! :) )

Yes an entire hour and 40 minutes!

PaulaC

Thanks for reading both of my comments. I didnt realize at the time I was limited to one per video. I thought It was one per chapter.

VeggieGamer

That is completely on me, Paula! I didn't make that 'rule' (they aren't rules, more.. thoughts XD) clear in the blogs! I appreciate the comments! :)

Lovegood

So… can I ask you a question? Haha just kidding, loved your reaction once again. So excited for the rest of the journey! I’ll try to keep my questions shorter, just have so many opinions on the books haha.

Another great book club video. I really enjoy all the little things you pick up on and how delighted you are to get more background for all the characters :) I generally feel like the movies do a decent job at portraying the general feeling and story of the books (at least way better than many other movie adaptations I've seen) but, as you've tarted to notice, there is jsut so much additional depth to the characters and also many plot points that are missing in them.😕 Then again, that probably just shows that they are vastly different mediums and that there will always be things that are lost in adaptations.🤔

emmainkeri

Neville for sure is more sensitive than Ron or Harry (makes sense though, knowing a bit of his childhood), but he's still only 11 years old and scared for Harry, who's about to fall off his broom. A few books from now you'll be telling us how much you love Neville :')

emmainkeri

I think it makes sense to have the review and book club in just one video. We really don't mind longer videos, and same book chapters are being discussed!

Annie

Whenever there's a change from book to movie, I try to guess why the change was made. With Philosopher's Stone, a lot of it was time (the finished movie is already long, and the longer a movie is, the fewer showings it can have in a day in a theatre). There are also several scenes of the kids acting like kids that I feel like were changed because while these scenes perfectly work in a book, in a movie they could easily be irritating. Child characters in movies and tv annoy A LOT of people. These scenes could have been a huge turn off for a large part of the audience, and for a studio, making money is always more important than accuracy to the source material.

VeggieGamer

Yeah you are completely right, Em! In that situation at that age I would have been just like Neville!

Caroline

Hi, I just wanted to thank you for doing this! I really hope you make it through all the books. As they get thicker and more detailed over time, you may need a different strategy, or you may need an hour per chapter in the future...., but please try. Other people I know who have tried to react to audiobooks etc. have unfortunately given up after the third book at the latest. But the most exciting details come in the final books, and I can't wait for you to read them. What I like most about the books is J.K. Rowling's writing style. She packs some important information so cleverly into subordinate clauses that you almost overlook it, and then it often becomes relevant books later. There are so many mind-blowing moments to come! And of course the details of this world and the characters that you don't get to see in the movies, but I've already noticed that this fascinates you too ;) keep looking for it! I'll always be with you, but I rarely write comments. Anything that comes to mind has usually already been written by ten other people, so I leave it at that, but I just wanted to write this one because I wanted to let you know how much I'm looking forward to all the upcoming chapter reviews! They really lighten my day! Greetings from Germany! (and sorry for the long text)

Loved this video! Really made my Wednesday evening! 2 thoughts I had: 1. Have you thought about making this series into a podcast? I tend to listen to it while doing other things anyway. You could still release the video as well, but also release the audio version on podcast streaming platforms. Just a thought. 2. Two separate videos is a good idea. Mostly because I like stretching out the content as much as possible! I wonder if we do the same thing and post comments on the chapters in advance. Or you could post the video first and then react to the comments we leave in response to the video. Not sure which is better. Maybe both! Haha 😂

One thing I think it's important to remember when reading HP is that you're never getting an unbiased perspective. First of all, we're seeing everything as Harry sees it and Harry is a very biased person. But also he gets a lot of his info from other biased people. Most people in Potter have their biases, as in real life, and she often doesn't explicitly point it out but just lets it feed into the characters' words and actions. So don't take it too seriously when, for example, Hagrid calls Hufflepuff duffers. Just because it's someone you like saying it doesn't mean you have to believe them or that they're speaking for Rowling.

Loveinthehat

The Harry and Ron’s beef with Draco feels more real in the books, of course it’s exaggerated but I like how they feel more like kids who are doing everything to get in each other’s nerves and trying to outdo each other rather than it just being Draco bullying, they are both clearly in each others head. Also Harry is way more sassy in the books, or course it makes sense why he’s more neutral in the movies. But in the books you can really tell why Harry and Ron are friends, they aren’t the same but they’re quite similar you know they’ll be best friends. Hermione is different from them but that also brings something else to their dynamic it’s really nice. Also I love their characters but you can imagine how aggravating the weasley twins must have been especially as kids. They probably did everything they can to annoy Percy.

Shannon Elizabeth

Another incredible book club review!! Can’t wait for the next one! 💛🦡💛

Maria

I've been so excited for this video, so glad it's up! The amount of time and effort you put into these is truly appreciated. Thank you so much for sharing about your animals, Penny looked absolutely adorable 💛

Hilde

Well, Welchy is on book 7 now with his audiobook reactions so that’s one who didn’t give in! 😀 But he doesn’t do reviews and such, just “live reactions” to one chapter at a time.

Caroline

oh wow thank you :) I didn't know him jet.

My idea to make quidditch better: 1. Catching the snitch gets you 50 points, not 150. 2. Catching the snitch does not end the game, instead there is a time limit. 3. The snitch can be caught multiple times in a game (I guess there would need to be some sort of grace period for the snitch to be released again) 4. It would be kind of fun if other players could catch the snitch. Or the seeker could play as a chaser for a while. Would bring more of an interesting tactical element to it.

Really love your videos, Veggie, I'll definitely keep following this. Also looking forward to your reactions to other stuff as well, even though the book club is the main thing for me here! Regarding the whole Dumbledore/socks thing you asked about: It's not something mentioned in the book after that, but Rowling did answer a question about what Dumbledore actually saw in the mirror in a Q+A session she did: "He saw his family alive, whole and happy". Her answer was a bit longer, but I cut off a bit of it to avoid mentioning more details about his family that is better that you get from the books instead of me, probably. I really like his lie as well! It fits him well as a character.

BeckyB00b

Your joyous reaction to my silly comment about the line of Ron grunting, just convinces me that we’re the same person. Stay grunting* ⚡️ *this catchphrase needs work

Kat

Joyous video as always! Can't believe we're almost finished with this book already. I personally don't think it's necessary to finish reading the books before watching Fantastic Beasts, I'm not sure I could wait that long either! As you never had a cinema experience with the Harry Potter films, I feel like you would really enjoy seeing the future ones there. I'm torn though because I selfishly would like to see your first reaction on the channel haha. I'm curious, do you listen to each chapter twice, once with each reader? Or do you alternate them?

VeggieGamer

Thanks so much Kat! I'll be honest, I am a little nervous of waiting so long to get to Fantastic Beasts, I am sure there is a lot of info that can pay off in it, but also don't want to have to keep people waiting! And YES, I listen to both Dale and Fry for each chapters! XD So far Dale for the notes, Fry for the summary! I may switch it up but frankly I am enjoying hearing both takes on the chapters so far! :)

Amane Kabbaj

I’ll say it again Ron is done dirty in the films, and Hermione seems a lot more in control than she actually is. Now it doesn’t bother me I love the movies but when I do listen to the books I notice it.

Amane Kabbaj

Nicholas flames and his wife perenelle were real French philosophers in the 14th century. I found out last year that the house they lived in was turned I to a restaurant in the centre of Paris. Just 2 streets behind where i have an apartment. So I went to check it out.

Amane Kabbaj

They’re not fighting over the mirror because it’s too narrow, they’re fighting over it because the mirror only reflects one person’s Desire at a time. When they are in front together they both just see themselves. It works a bit like a boggart. If there’s too many people it doesn’t work. Also they’re 11 that’s what you expect honestly. I actually realised how adult the films make them seem. They handle things way too maturely in the early films. Whereas in the books it’s only around the end of Order that they start growing up and doing things a bit more maturely and sensibly.

Maxwell J

Hermione undergoes a profound change during this moment in her life. She always looked to adult authority to devote her attention, and importantly her unwavering loyalty. This isn’t true in the movies, but it’s clear in the books that at this moment with the troll she basically rewrote her undying loyalty to her friends. She shows her ridiculous cleverness here my realizing why Harry and Ron came to the girls bathroom. Fantastic work as usual, vegan power✊

Kunzite Blossom

When it comes to Dumbledore knowing about the sneaking around, its Dumbledore who gave Harry the cloak. Would recommend the "Dumbledore's Plan" series from the Super Carlin Brothers once you finish the books, in your own free time obviously. They really go in depth on so much. They have so many theories that help fill in plot holes, and help to make sense of things that just make no sense (Like the hiring of Lockhart)

Spicecupcake99

Hi, this is stupid but it bothers me that you say Gorge and Fred because it's Fred and Gorge. Even in the movies Fred is always on the left and Gorge is on the right so they are always in order on-screen. Again I know this is a stupid thing to bother me.

Spicecupcake99

Also I'd like to give some tough love real quick. Stop it with the "sorry of this being so long I'll try to keep it quick" BECAUSE WE ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT!!! Truly you're beating yourself up for ABSOLUTELY no reason!!❤️❤️ stop stressing yourself out you're all good my man!! Truely anyone who can't do long videos can just not watch them or skip around ti hear bits and pieces or just put the speed up. There are so many options for people who don't want to listen for that long but for people who want a longer video they can only get that if you make them longer. PLUS the majority of people who are watching you are doing so BECAUSE you go deeper into things and really take the time needed. So please give yourself a break. People like you just as you are stop apologizing for being yourself.❤️

Ian Graham

Yeah that kind of bothered me a little bit too. It's similar to someone saying "Harry, Hermione and Ron" Rather than "Harry, Ron and Hermione".

GEMsMama

I've always felt that Harry despises Malfoy because he reminds him of the Dursleys. Their superiority complexes, their degradation of others they find to be inferior. The Wizarding world is supposed to be his escape from that toxicity. And her comes rat face to remind him of what he's trying to get away from.

itsanursething

So I just had a thought! It's always bothered me that when he's describing the snitch, Wood in the movie says, "you catch this and the game is over. You catch this Potter, and we win." Because we all know what ACTUALLY happens is the game ends and your team earns 150 points. BUT!!! What if, what he was just being cocky in the movie. What if he was basically telling Harry that the Gryffindor team is so good, that no matter what, they'd have enough of a lead on the other team that they'd win when the snitch was caught? Maybe...

Hanneli Norrgard

The movies honestly change all of the main characters quite a bit. I do not like Harry one bit, and the reason is because of the Harry in the books. He's too much like James in the books, and I just don't like him. He's not nearly as insufferable in the movies. Ron gets cut out a lot in the movies. Draco is just a whiny brat in the movies. Snape is "better" in the movies. Dumbledore is less insufferable in the movies. Hermione is "better" in the moves. It goes on and on.

Jain Thorne

I don't mean this in any bad way but I'm amazed that you watch the movies if you feel this way. I'm not trying to be snarky but if I don't like how a movie treats a book I loved then I don't watch it. I walked out of The Dark Tower halfway through because it was so awful.

Hanneli Norrgard

I always go into a movie adaptation of a book suspecting that it will be a terrible adaptation, so my standards are already low. If a movie does a good job of it, I just get to be pleasantly surprised, and it doesn't happen often. The movies are entertaining and make the main character easier for me to not hate, so they're an easy watch.

Melanie P

So my position would be commentator. I am not an athletic person, nor am I coordinated enough to not injure myself or others.. mostly myself. Love these lengthy reviews. I also love that you are listening to both versions of the audiobooks. I think the jim dale might be easier to follow because it was read for American audiences.. sometimes quick conversations in a different accent is really hard to follow. The stephen fry audience was British or possibly European. So it might have nothing to do with that but it popped into my head when you mentioned that it was easier to understand and more slowly delivered but it took away from the comedy aspect of the game commentator.

Insanityandbeyond

catching up on these and sorry but I laughed at the image of the spell protection in deathly hallows not reaching Hagrids hut 😂

Vanessa

Also in another chapter there was the line ".......Snape snapped" Lol!!
