This part of the Potter Book Club is now CLOSED! Thanks to everyone who commented and if you missed it, don't worry! There will be many more chances to get your comments read out in the future! :)

Hi guys!  Sorry for the wait on this, I'll be sure to get to the next one faster! Here is a chance to get your comment read out in the next Book review video! I have updated the 'rules', but don't worry about following them to the letter, I want this to be fun! :)

If you are reading along with the reviews, we are covering chapters "Nicolas Flamel", "Norbert, The Norwegian Ridgeback" and "The Forbidden Forest" in this one! So if you have any thoughts, opinions, comparisons or questions regarding these, please leave a comment below!

I do have to ask though, try to keep them fairly short, like 4 or 5 sentences.  That way I can cover more when making the video.  Also try to keep them on subject and not referencing anything that we are yet to cover. Ideally keep it to 1 comment each if you can (if you have more to say after commenting, you can edit it and add to it! :) ).  These are just rough guidelines rather than rules, I want to be able to fit in as many of you as possible! :)

OH! And if you would like to leave a comment but would rather I didn't read it out in the video, please feel free. Be sure to say you would rather it not be used in your comment.

Thanks, guys!! :)

Hi Veggie! I just wanted to note a little detail in case you missed it. It's how Gryffindor absolutely DESTROYED, ANNIHILATED, OBLITERATED, and CREMATED Hufflepuff in a defeat so DEVESTATING and HUMILIATING that Hufflepuffs and all their descendants will feel shame for centuries. Anyway, I hope you are happy and well. Love, Electroshock

Lovegood

Poor Neville, getting punished and having to go to the forbidden forest for trying to help his friends. I love that in the books you can already see the glimpses of bravery that Neville has in spades.

What do you think about the comparison between the book version of how they send away Nobert compared to the movie version? I myself like the book version, we get a bit of Charlie (even though it's a letter) and it shows Hermoine's willingness to now break/bend the rules to help her friends.

.

I like that Charlie is mentioned more often in the books! But I do think it was good that the movie skipped that part. Them handing Norbert safely to Charlie's friend was cute but the whole process seemed very impractical while reading it (EDIT: even though it did make more sense in the book since owning a dragon is illegal)

Helena Hauksdóttir Jacobsen

Hey, I’d like to know what you think of the crucial difference between how the whole Norbert situation is handled in the book vs movie. The thing that always bothered me in the movie is that apparently Hagrid is busted for possessing an illegal and HIGHLY dangerous creature in his home, exposing the students to it and he not only gets away with it but is made to carry out the punishment of those students, which he does by taking them into the FORBIDDEN forest (I know it’s a book problem too) which is filled with dangerous creatures 🤯

When Harry says that Professor Snape is being particularly terrible recently (at the beginning of Chapter Thirteen) and suspects that sometimes he can even read minds… I seriously think Snape is being especially horrible precisely because he *can* read minds, so he knows all the awful things Harry suspects him of, while he’s actually doing everything he can to protect Harry. As a side note, I quite happily imagine Alan Rickman as Severus Snape while reading, since he was specifically chosen by J.K. Rowling, and she had him in mind when she wrote the character… Besides, he embodied Snape perfectly. The way I see it, if the author imagined Alan Rickman as Snape, why can’t I? 😊

Inseriousity

Do you mind if I ask you a question? (surprised no-one's done this joke yet)

Kristen Campbell

Don't you think Hogwarts' punishments were a bit much back in the day? When Filtch talks about how they use to hang kids by the wrist from the ceiling for a few DAYS. And then now they have to go into the dangerous forest to look for a killer, at night, AND split them up. Thank goodness Harry was saved.

Kattie Martin

I wish Neville had been shown more in the movies. He is a very present character in the books and I adored him. I do love an underdog character.

For me personally, this is where the book and the film diverge the most. The movie manages to get the major points, but some of the finer details get left behind, like who really got detention and why. Also how quidditch isn't played just once by each team each year. Personally, I prefer the book for this section over the film. What about you?

Diego Zenhäusern

What do you think of Draco not telling on them about Norbert? I feel it's one of the few times in theseries were a characters action don't really make sense to me🤔😅

Diego Zenhäusern

I challenge you to a duel in place of all the Hufflepuffs whose honor has been slighted!1!!1 Met me in the trophy room at midnight!!1

Dara Jeeling

What do you think about Snap refereeing? I would have loved that in the movie Especially since you already might have an idea why he did this... Also... Looking orward to this! Whenever you have a date we will do a pizza night to watch. Thank you for continuing this content for our sake!

Loveinthehat

I thought he did and McGonagall thought it was a prank to get draco out of bed and into trouble? Or did I remember that wrong it’s been a while

Diego Zenhäusern

Just looked it up to be sure I don't missremember: Draco sees Norbert through the window of Hagrid's hut but doesn't tell any of the teachers for a whole week. Then he finds the letter from Charlie but instead of giving the letter to a teacher (or at least telling someone) he tries to catch Harry by himself and gets caught by McGonagall. It's only then when he tells her about the dragon and she thinks it's a prank🤔

Clarissa

Others have already commented with queations about the differences between book and film and what you think so won't bother you with duplicates and so I will just thank you. Your intricate film reviews and now these book reviews have made me fall in love with the series again and I am now rereading them for the first time in over 10 years ( though they have all been reread at least 10 times before then) it's like seeing a lifelong friend I haven't seen in a long time and love infinitely. Its natural and like coming home

Supermonaman

My favorite things about the chapters different from the movie is getting more details about dragons and centaurs which is something you notice in the books more information about magical creatures and the fear and atmosphere of the forest being slightly better than the movie. Also what do you think about the centaurs being more about fate and astrology then what was shown in the movie? Finally once again Neville and Quidditch are shown so much better in the books.

Kristen Campbell

I think he didn’t tell because he wanted to hold it over them or get more info. Plus it was Harris’s and he’s a teacher so he might not of gotten in much trouble. But then being out at night would get them in trouble

PaulaC

Not really a question; rather a comment. Harry does not take care of that invisibility cloak. It is a valuable and rare thing (Ron told Harry that when he received it) but he just throws it around and leaves it wherever. It’s like leaving a priceless painting in a corner and not thinking to grab it before you leave the room. I get he’s a teenager, but he has some concept of value and rarity. I also get it needed to happen for the subsequent plot, but it makes Harry look boneheaded.

Adrinaik

A detail that I like from the books (as I remember it) is how clear is that the whole Gryffindor house is angry with Harry, Hermione and Neville, and how it affects them. Says a lot for me about their personalities how, when they’re caught, Harry’s trying to make up excuses, stories, while Hermione is just trembling, incapable of saying anything or even looking at McGonagall’s face. To sum up, just thank you for doing this, Veggie. I am, and I’m sure all of us here, enjoying your book reviews a lot!

Fiur

It's really interesting to see more of the centaurs in the books and their connection to the stars. Do you think "Mars is bright tonight" is a sign for the return of Voldemort and therefore the coming second wizarding war ( as Mars is the roman god of war) or is it rather a symbol for Harrys foreseen "death" in the forbidden forest caused by the dark lord himself which Firenze tries to prevent? Keep up the great work and greetings from Germany :)

Methanoutput

Hey Veggie, again not a question, but i want you to know, that i love this series and it always makes my day, when you upload a new part!

Diego Zenhäusern

I mean I can kinda see your point...but I don't think year 1 Draco would have been that smart about it🤔😅

JablesBoogley

The really nerfed the whole dragon bit in the movies, I understand it was for time, but you get a good insight into the type of chaotic good that the Weasley's are

YaeliEz (Yael)

Can you believe we “meet” Charlie so early in the books? Him and Bill are practically non existent in the movies. You’ll be seeing them more as we go, but still not enough Charlie.

Garry (Not Jerry)

I believe that Madam Pomfrey ABSOLUTELY knew that Ron’s injury was a dragon bite. She probably went straight to Dumbledore. My theory is that Dumbledore was monitoring the situation closely, perhaps even convincing Hagrid to let them take Norbert away - followed them up the astronomy tower and grabbed Harry’s cloak when he forgot it.

MollyWobbles

This may be a stupid question. But how do I watch this video. All that I get is the picture. I didn't have any issues with the others 😩

electroshock therapy

Because this isn't a video. It's merely a discussion page for his upcoming book review.

VeggieGamer

Hi Lindsey!! Sorry for the confusion, yeah this is a comment hub for people that have thoughts, questions, etc about the up coming chapters we are covering! So I am in the process of making the video for these chapters. I'll make that clearer next time I post one of these! :)

harry is only 11 and when i was his age i kept forgetting my stuff everywhere, especially my keys. i kept forgetting them at school, at home, at friends' places,.. i'd forget them at least once a week and i was by no means stupid or anything. as a child your mind is just constantly all over the place, you get distracted easily especially by friends and it didn't matter that i knew how important the keys were or how mad my parents would be 😅 so i think that's just pretty normal behaviour for a lot of kids and not necessarily a plot device. sure not every child is that way but it's not out of the ordinary either ^^
