Hi guys! I have tried something a little different this time and would love your feedback on it! The Reaction is on Google Drive rather than Unlisted on Youtube.  If you are able to access this, you will not need to sync up your own copy this way.  Let me know what you think and if you have any troubles accessing the file.  It may work better if you download it? I am honestly not sure, this is all new to me.

Another great episode that frankly gets crazy by the end! XD I am kicking myself that I didn't remember the actress for Natalie French, she played along said Luke's actor as Sindel in Mortal Kombat! XD There is clearly a bit of a crossover of talent here!

Have a wonderful weekend, guys! The next Potter Book review is coming soon! And like I say, please give all the feedback you can on this new system (like I say, if it doesn't work, we can revert back no problem). If we are all happy with it, I will redo the previous ones. :)

This is a long one, oops. I wanted to love this episode (big fan of bug themed stuff, and the subtext is so worth exploring !!) but I think it falls unfortunately flat :( While he didn't get far with French, I don't think it's the biggest leap to assume Xander would have (willingly) gone along with it if she had been a regular teacher. I had hoped they would've touched on that discussion more. There are definitely a few bits of dialogue that kinda toe the line of how much of an issue it is, and how she's taking advantage of him- but I feel like it's mostly played for laughs. :x At the end of the day she was preying on teens and had *forced* herself on at least one student and then murdered him. I don't think we see that first form of assault from many other monsters in the show (thankfully). But it's wild to me that her eating the victim (and probably how goofy she looks as a mantis, let's be real) seems to take away from the other (more realistic) aspects of her being "predatory". It feels like one of those episodes where if there were a few gender swaps it would probably have an entirely different tone, which leaves a really bad taste given the subject matter. :( It's hard to rate it, because it's not unwatchable by any means, but after multiple rewatches and (probably too many) dissections it's more of a "Why did we go there? What do we take away from it? " for me. In a show that constantly "goes there" with heavy topics it really stands out as a weaker episode. It's also a weird one because now we have to live with the fact that there are mantis people that (for some reason?) pass as AND breed with humans ?? Are there male mantis people? What do they do? And why were vampires SO afraid of her ?? I'm giving it a very subjective 2 because even if i don't look too deeply and try swing it as a femme fatale kind of creature feature it's not something I can really have fun with. PS the science teacher deserved so much better ..

One thing I’m enjoying about your reactions is that even when the visual is absurd, like Buffy leading Fork Guy along the sidewalk to sniff out Ms. French, you roll with it. You don’t assert some dramatic superiority to it but you’re just thoroughly enjoying it. You made a good comment about the giant bug being like an old horror movie. To have familiarity with old horror movies really helps you appreciate Buffy. Sometimes it’s homage and sometimes borrowing, but if you can appreciate the visuals and plots of those movies, you should have a lot less trouble than some people do with early seasons of Buffy. I grew up on 50s and 60s horror, so I never had to “look down” on Buffy. On Xander’s benefit to the group (which I can say, since you’re in season seven by now), I think that’s one of the very things about his character, the exploration of how a regular guy would fit into such a situation. It ends up being said that he is the heart, and that he has clocked more field time than any stuffy old Watcher’s Council employee, but I like that you’re already questioning the theme. Looking forward to all the episodes ahead.

I'm a big fan of the new system on Google Drive! Thank you! This is probably considered one of the "bad" episodes, which just goes to show how amazing Buffy eventually gets. And we're already dealing with big high school themes in monster form, like how some adults are sexual predators, and lusty high schoolers may not see the red flags. It's a funny episode with some character development for Xander, who is SUCH a hormone bomb right now. Random thoughts: - Buffy is my favorite in this ep, for the dramatic exit line "....my homework!" Only to have to come back asking where to find the books on bugs. - The drinking age is 21, nationally. Most people turn 16 in 10th grade, so Xander is 5 years too young to drink (and 2 years too young to consent to sex with an adult in California). (16 is also the age you can get a driver's license, and since we have no decent public transportation it's probably a good thing that high schoolers aren't supposed to drink.) - The "real" Miss French is played by Jean Howard, mother of Ron Howard and grandmother to Bryce Dallas Howard!

Love the Google Drive approach. And I can't believe you felt bad for the She-Mantis. Seriously? Well, I suppose it shows you're a compassionate person. Also, a super-duper happy birthday to Ms Weasel (if that is how she spells it; if not, I do apologize). I love lurchers. I've never seen one in person, but I love every doggo of that configuration, from Italian greyhounds to full-on greyhounds. And the birthday girl looks particularly sweet, if a bit (understandably) timid. Willow Rosenberg. Xander Lavelle Harris. Buffy Anne Summers (whose mother is Joyce). Telling you the names of people you've met isn't a spoiler, I hope. My favourite character in this episode is Buffy. She's smart, to the point of spotting her attraction to Angel immediately. How many 16-year-old girls are that self-aware?

I loved the beginning of your video. I am a major animal lover as well :) I seem to be in the minority here, but sadly I am not a fan of the google drive approach. I prefer to be able to control the volume of your commentary as well as the episode.

I haven't watched yet, just about to, but wanted to shout, "DOGGO!" You need to show more of your precious pup. :) I confess I'm more of a cat person and don't live with any dogs presently, but I grew up with both cats and dogs and am very fond of all animals.

Glad to hear more Harry P is on the way! Just finishing off your last video on the books today. Never watched this series, though was a big fan of a lot of cheesy tv from the 90's and Noughties (how rude!!), like Farscape, Xena : Warrior Princess and Stargate SG-1. My best mate and his wife love Buffy though, so I know it has a big fanbase. I do love a show called Star Wars Rebels in which Sarah Michelle Geller appears in animated form alongside her husband, Freddie Prinze, Jr. That is a tonne of fun.

My favorite character in this episode was Giles because he's Giles. It's usually a toss up between him and Willow, but he definitely won this episode. The drinking age in all states is 21 (feds blackmailed states to make it such in order to get freeway funding), as is the age for smoking. In CA, Xander can't ever technically to have sex with someone else his own age because the age of consent (even among underaged) is 18. It's not necessarily well known, though, and definitely not prosecuted when the choice is consensual between two under 18s. TV shows definitely forget about actual laws, though, and we're supposed to, as well.

I like the google drive approach - although I fear that you will hit some sort of download limit if you get too much traffic! Certainly not having to sync along with your own copy is much easier. It also means that we can pause the video much easier. Only suggestion would be slightly higher audio levels from Buffy. And maybe make the window bigger. You could even do it the opposite way around where the film is full screen and your face is in the corner. Although I appreciate this might be annoying from an editing point of view. But I’m also totally happy as it is so no worries. Anyway - this episode is a good one! I absolutely loved your reaction. I enjoy the predictions. Although maybe you just make them at the start and see whether you were right at the end? I really don’t want to spoil anything because there’s so much I could say about what’s coming up. Let’s just say - some of the assumptions you are making are correct and others are not! Can’t wait to see your reaction as it all unfolds!

Thanks Michael! This is very useful feedback! Can I ask, is there any way to make this sort of format more to your liking? Do you think the audio levels I used were off or that you generally like to choose the levels yourself? I really appreciate the feedback, even if it is a minority as I want to get this into a form everyone can enjoy! :)

First off, happy birthday to Woozle (hope that's the right spelling?😅)!! The link worked fine for me (Though I didn't try to watch it on Drive itself but downloaded it instead, so I can't say if there would be any buffering or something liek that ) and I think it is certainly a good option, especially since it seems to make thing easier for you as well :). That said I didn't mind the previous setup either, so I'll have no complaints however you choose to do it in the future. Lastly, I don't think you should feel bad about making predictions...I mean the whole point of this is to get your genuine and immediate reactions...so I feel like you making predictions is kinda part of this😊

I think if you raised the volume of the buffy footage a bit it would be a bit better, also making the buffy video screen a bit bigger and less transparent would be good too. I am not sure if this would cause copyright issues, although I have a few other reactors who use this google drive approach and don't use transparency.

I don't want to alarm you, but this approach could be considered piracy and therefore illegal. I'm definitely no expert, but I really wouldn't want to see any possible problems come your way.

Hi Predaguy. You are right, I was really not happy about trying it this way. From what I gather (going on comments I have recieved), a lot of other Buffy reacters do it in this way, and up to now there have been several people bringing up issues with how I was doing them before. I am still on the look out for the perfect solution, and if I find something better, I will revert all these previous episodes to fit that.

This is so great!! Thank you for the extra work!!! I know you are worried about copyright, if it’s not too much trouble for you, I’d maybe ask some of the other Buffy reactors that have been posting this way for a few years now. I know Liam Duke, Liam Catterson, Alley Box, Whysoawkward and many more I’ve watched have used Dropbox/Google Drive etc. I know most of these reactors have collaborated on Buffy projects/rewatches and script readings together so seem to be open to helping other/working with other reactors. It would be great if you were able to get some advice from someone who has had experience with it but I don’t know who you would be comfortable asking specifically. Sorry if this is a weird suggestion. I loved this episode, hope you can settle this issue and your conscience on it soon!! I don’t want you to feel uncomfortable!!
