Hi guys! So sorry for missing last week's spot!!

Really enjoyed this one! I think it is my favourite so far! Loved seeing some Giles action in it too!  Very interesting to see a 'non-vampire' episode so early!

Let me know your thoughts of the episode below! Still trying to work out what is the best way to do 'edits', so will continue season 1 like this if that is ok?

Have a great weekend!

Hi Veggie! I've been away for a while and completely missed that you're doing Buffy reactions now! Saw it on YT and quickly jumped in here to watch episode 3 onwards with you. This is one of my favourite shows and I can't wait for it to break your heart like it did mine (in the nicest way possible 🤭).

This is one of THE most memorable "monster of the week" format episodes for me. (And you, apparently! I'm glad "Catherine the Great" will get many mentions from here on out hahah) This is one of those concepts that could easily have a 20 page essay analyzing it. (I'll spare you from that version, lmao) I love it though! Extremely relatable unfortunately, and increasingly relevant. (Well, the fixation on a source of past attention and glory at least. Though so much can be said about obsessing over lost youth..) I have to wonder if she would've eventually bodyswapped to one of the other girls, considering her complaint about how she "can't get her body to move like ". Anyhow ! I forgot to mention it, but I think Giles is my MVP in most of these episodes. I do really enjoy Amy being on screen though. I don't really have many complaints with this one. Might give it an 8 or 8.5 :o)

Really good comment about the 8 seconds Willow and Xander held up Amy/Katherine-the-Great. Those eight seconds actually did save Buffy. Never thought of that before, in my 30 viewings.

Yay, it’s a Veggie Buffy day! (Veffy? Budgie?) This is a great episode - great writing, great character moments, great twist. Plus a really solid thematic look at the pressure parents can put on kids in high school. In this ep, Buffy is my fave character. She’s still the new girl at school and she does SO much to be kind and make friends with “Amy”, even when she is disappointed about not making the team herself. What is Xander good at? Hells bells, I don’t even know where to start 😂 but I think his initial role in season 1 is comic relief. It’s great to watch our Core Four navigate how to best support each other in the vampire fight and find their roles. Don’t feel bad about loving Cordelia! I wouldn’t want to be her friend in real life but she is so much fun to watch on TV. She gets such great zingers to deliver.

Loved the reaction, as always! My favourite character in this one is Giles, but he's always one of my favourites anyway tbh. For me the current setup works fine - my copy does go out of sync with yours but the blurred image means I'm able to get back in sync whenever I need to

One of the better one-off episodes of this season in my opinion. And definitely don’t feel bad for enjoying Cordelia! She’s a fan favourite for a reason.

UPDATE: Amazon Prime was the *perfect* sync; I didn't have to make a single adjustment the entire time. I'll use that instead of Hulu now. I believe the syncing issue is caused by the fade-out/-in where the original airing had commercial breaks; that seems to be the spots where I have to re-sync the most often, though I have to make little adjustments throughout. It might also be a difference in streaming platform, or a combo of the two. It's annoying, true, but I think most of us are willing to persevere becase A) it's Buffy, and B) it's you. Because of those two factors, most of are willing to endure, LOL. I used Hulu before, so I'm going to switch to my copy on Amazon Prime and see if that works better. The blurred box definitely helps. Any comments I have after I watch will be in a separate post.

After-show comments! NO spoilers. Xander's true role is revealed in a combo of Season 4, Episode 21, and Season 6, Episode 22. That's all I can say about that. Sabrina the Teenage Witch comics were out for many years before this show. The series Sabrina the Teenage Witch came out in 1996, same year as Buffy. Chilling Adventures of Sabrina is strictly 21st century, releasing in 2018. The name of Sabrina's cat is Salem. The scenes in Buffy's intro are indeed safe to watch every season. The scenes are shown rapidly and without context; they don't spoil anything. Then after the various episodes, you can start picking out the scenes, and it gives you a little jolt of memory. The body count in the series becomes something of a running joke among the characters, LOL. Last, but not least, YES, there are definitely times you will feel sorry for the monsters. It's okay. :)

If you're loving season 1 this much, you're going to REALLY love the seasons going forward :)

I think the "problem" of liking the villains will sort itself out over the next few episodes... but this isn't a show where monsters are always all bad either. So it's okay to feel conflicted about that. LOL And, on that note, even those of us who hated Cordy at first grew to love her. She is a mean girl, but she's our mean girl. Plus she's hilarious, even if it's not usually on purpose. My favourite character in this one goes to the brownies. Without them, Buffy may never have figured out that Catherine had switched bodies with Amy. All kidding aside, I love action Giles, too, but this episode also showed Buffy's awesomeness as a slayer. It's not just her physicality or her quips. She's perceptive. And she pays attention. She remembered Willow's story and put two and two together, even while under the influence of a curse. Oh, and Sabrina's cat is Salem. Freddie

Intresting...I'm using the disney+ version and it's perfectly in sync (in case any of the people in the comments are still looking for other alternatives 🤔)

Getting to experience the series alongside with you is great🙂! I've seen season 1 like 4 or 5 years ago, so it does barely count since I can't remember much of the details but just some of the bigger storypoints of the season (I had for instance completely forgotten the plot of this episode, so the twist got me just as good as you🙈). Anyways...really enjoyed the reaction and as far as I'm concerned the bluring seems to be a god solution🙂

Actually, yeah. For many people drivers ed is part of the schoolcurriculum. And the requirements vary a bit from state to stae, but it seems that in some states you can get a drivers license with as little as your parents showing you to srive once or twice, as long as you pass the test, your good. As a german who spent quite a lot on learning to drive for _weeks_ and having to have a mandatory minimum of 6 Hours of driving lessons with a licensd driving teacher before you are even allowed to sign up for the test I am both jealous and horrified.
