Deadpool

There is a strong chance Star Wars took inspiration from Dune cause the original movie came out in 1984 A Mew Hope came out in 1977 but the book came out in 1965 so there is a strong chance Star Wars was inspired by Dune

Probably someone has already mentioned that they are called Fremen, not Furmen. Like most of the other names, titles, etc. in Dune, Frank Herbert (the author of the Dune series) draws his names and most of his themes from real-world examples, and there have been several groups in history known as the freemen, contracted to fremen. Lots of the religious terms are from Islam, the spice is a metaphor for oil, the Harkonnens are proxies for imperialist nations that exploit native peoples everywhere, etc. The story also draws from Bhuddism, some “new age’ themes, and even biological hypotheses. For example, the test Paul is subjected to by the Reverend Mother - where she says she’s determining whether he’s human - points to what is thought to be one of the few real differences between humans and other animals - our meta-awareness. As far as is known, all other animals act via stimulus=response. Humans have, to varying degrees based on a host of factors, the ability to interrupt the process a point just prior to response. We can choose, for instance, to respond to a threat by not long feeling fear, or to an insult by refraining from saying one in retaliation, or even to a burning hot surface by not yanking our hand away. No other animal, it seems, can do that or, at least, it has never occurred to them to try. So the Reverend Mother was testing him (as she says in her very incomplete explanation - she had many other reasons) for his worthiness of political and military power for the same reason people shouldn’t own guns without extensive training. Self-discipline and self-mastery, even under great stress. We can choose; animals can’t. And Jessica, Paul’s mom, reciting those words about fear: “fear is the little death…I must let it pass through me, then only I will remain” is very much the same thing…mastering our instincts so that we do those things that are aligned with our rational intentions. It’s all in the book in detail, and it’s brilliant stuff. Another excellent video…Glad I joined your patreons!
