BTW, Flamme is two syllables, pronounced more like flaw may.

That sunrise scene got me good when I first watched. Frieren's little moment of triumph when she thinks "Himmel was wrong, I'm don't think this is special!" because she thought he meant that she was the type of person to enjoy beautiful sunrises... followed by her realization that he *really* meant was that she's the type of person who enjoys *others'* joy. Not only did he indeed read her correctly, but she's learned something about herself too. What really gets me (other than the warm piano solo that plays over this moment, which I *had* to learn for myself) is that very little of this is explained. Frieren says aloud "I wouldn't have been able to see this sunrise if I had been on my own," which Fern interprets in a physical sense -- Frieren needed physical assistance to be awakened for this moment. But really what she meant was that she alone wouldn't have *enjoyed* the sunrise, because the other people are what make it *worthwhile* for her. *That's* the part she can't do alone. And the script is content with letting us put that together ourselves instead of laying it all out, and that shows a lot of trust in the audience. This scene doesn't get *nearly* the attention it deserves, imo. For me it's one of the key moments of thematic beauty in the whole show.

Just have clear this up. Flamme wasn't an elf. She was human.

Hey just joined here. Loving your reactions. Just wanted to note that this anime uses a lot of German words. For terms and names. So even if they resemble English, the japanese VAs might be better reference on pronunciations. For example: Fl-Ah-meh. Hope you keep enjoying this anime. It is like my 4th watch, and it still gets me 😭

Daniel Pitts

I was thinking of pointing this out, but I decided she’d figure it out on her own in time anyway.

The scene of Frieren opening the barrier is so majestic. Flamme's voice over in the lead up to it, the animation, and thehn the music swell just hit.

some might call her a goat

I actually teared up when I watched it back again in editing. When I first watched it there were so many thoughts in my head, all of the beauty of Frieren really came through in the sunrise scene for me... Exactly how you described it, he knew she loved bringing joy to those she loved (through her spells and doing little things she knows will bring *them* so much joy). Seeing that realization of what Himmel said, now in real-time with Fern, was so magical and nuanced. Other people and their reactions/love for things are what give *her* joy. I can imagine with how long she's lived, that it's hard for her to see things anew in the way that humans do compared to her, it's their first time living and it awakens their. That's honestly how I kind of see this reaction channel with how you guys have described reliving Frieren through *my* own first time seeing it. Such a beautiful connected experience, we can find so much joy/meaning through each other 💛

No you guys are exactly right, I assumed she was an elf like Frieren at first. I don't figure it out I don't think for a few eps lol but it clicks eventually that she actually is human. Also dying at she's a goat lmao you're so right ab that 😂

I appreciate this, I didn't know but will start correcting. I think I'll still pronounce it incorrectly up until ep 10. Is her name German too I wonder?

aloekayeANIME

Ahh ok yes it is German good to know 🙌 Right above this Daniel also said the pronunciation is how you said it too. I'll start correcting moving forward, tysm and so glad you're enjoying the reactions!!💛

HalcyonSerenade

That's a great point, actually... we like to share experiences we enjoy with people who will appreciate it to see their reaction, just like Frieren enjoyed seeing Fern's reaction to the sunrise... and "reaction content" like this play on that same vicarious joy. You might say that this video is someone reacting to Frieren reacting to Fern reacting to the sunrise 😄

It's an understated scene, but the flashback Eisen has in the back of the cart with Fern hits so hard for me. The flashback ends with them talking to Heiter about his drinking and he lets out a big laugh, as he does, in response... It then cuts to Eisen closing his eyes as he's remembering his friend. Always gets me.

Daniel Pitts

Yeah, practically all the names are German words. They also do fit the person, but it’s not necessary to know that for the story.
