I totally get the aversion to the "be a man" type themes. I mean... as a male who's had a mild history of mental health issues (and who *hasn't*, amarite?), I *totally* understand the slippery slope there. Here's how I interpret what Demon Slayer is trying to say: This is less about the gender statement and more about the *age* statement. It's a coming-of-age for Tanjiro, who needs to learn that there are times when decisions need to be made swiftly and firmly, supported in this world through moments of physical danger. I see it as less "be a man" and more "be an adult" who can persevere. (But the gender-neutral "adult" isn't usually how that's phrased, because gender norms, expectations, etc.) I think *normally* we'd need a co-message of emotional regulation and empathy (positive mental health goals, and all that), but that's actually Tanjiro's *starting point.* He personally doesn't really *need* a lesson on kindness and emotion because that's his personal default. So his personal growth is more focused on the other side of adulthood that he currently lacks, which is making tough decisions and moving forward. Obviously this is only my own interpretation! I can't claim authorial intent, and a lot of "be a man" themes are always tinted with personal experiences and cultural backdrop of the watcher. I mean, all story themes tend to be like that, but "be a man" has a lot of different layers of it. I think as the story plays out, we get a more complete picture of why this early perspective is useful for Tanjiro's journey, despite phrasing that may raise some flags without further thematic context.

Sorry but I have to ask. What's up with the footage cuts sometimes? I've noticed that sometimes you make cuts or rewind back and I'm curious. I don't mind it just wanted to ask.

No you're fine I appreciate a question. Sometimes my brain goes on thought tangents internally and I might miss a detail so I need to rewind. That's likely what's happening if I'm not paying attention I don't want to miss something important. Other cuts might be if I have a long pause or if I use filler words I'll do a smaller cut. Or if an abrupt cut there could've been sirens or my dogs barking so had to edit out that noise. Idk if this is what you meant but hopefully it provides some context 💫 If there's a suggestion you have like something is bothering you as the viewer always feel free to lmk and I can adjust accordingly as I'm new to this too 😊 EDIT: I went back and rewatched and think I know the scene you meant, I wasn't paying attention but my editing was off (this vid was posted before I had any ppl on my patreon lol think I just missed it bc I was new). Reuploading now :)

I really appreciate this perspective, very thoughtful explanation as always, thank you 😊💛 I discuss this theme a bit in a more in ep 9 which posts tmr. I think I was being cautious bc it's not my culture and I wanted to sit with it more before getting into this kind of topic.. But I totally agree, and this being my first shonen it was a little jarring in this way (not a bad thing just my genuine reaction, I've also grown up a girl/woman within US culture not a boy/man in Japan so it's majorly different), but as I've continued to integrate into the show and world building it's been much easier to understand why this theme exists and how just as you said, it is a very real relatable part of the mental health, coming-of-age journey many of us have undergone in our own ways, and adds so much to the character development/storyline/etc. Even more so tho Tanjiro's story is such an extreme one in such a painful world that he really has to learn this harshness in order to fight back/succeed in that world.
