Been some news breaking that the CIA coerced people regarding Havana Syndrome (surprise surprise). Would be dope to get an update episode on that psyop.

birk

in the cold open brace is literally just reciting greedo's lines from the beginning of the first star wars

Michael S. Judge

This reminds me: I once knew a former member of Guided by Voices, during a period when they were pretty popular, so they had a tour rider, and the entire "Beer/Liquor" section of the rider was "WATERY. DOMESTIC." (I think Pavement stole that for an album title)

Dr Nermal Funkenstein

Banned my roommates gf from bringing Buzz Balls into our apartment

Kaitlyn Swinney

Can someone pls tell me what the first name in the theme song is before Jeffrey Epstein. I’ve been wondering for months

TrueAnonPod

The audio is from Epstein’s deposition. He’s saying “can you please give us your name”

Kaitlyn Swinney

Thank youuuu ♥️ I can rest easy now when I fire up the pod

Gator lord

Brace, buzz balls are trash. You’re not missing anything lol

TrueAnonPod

Yeah it isn’t gone or anything it’s just the HOT MOMENT isn’t there

snapplepeachtea

i recently worked for a turkish business where everyone was clearly a turkish immigrant being exploited, but the worst part is they didnt pay me. so if hamdi ulukaya sees this please know i too have been slighted by the turks and will throw my full support behind kurdistan if he agrees to the terms of the anchor union.

Leyland

I crave yoghurt all the time and repeatedly convince myself it will cure all my digestive issues. So I eat it and then suffer alone in the dark night for hours with those terrors YC and Brace have spoken of. Could the gumshoes find some dirt on Big Bread next? I really need to quit that too!

Big Problem

Rexneya min heye, Heval. You can’t be saying you speak Kurdish with that funky ass pronunciation. Shoulda spent more time in Bakur with the “affiliates”

grymm

I take a lot of creatine and never exercise. I just needed to tell someone.

Alaric

Used to make homemade 4loko in college after it got banned, providing my recipe here in case Sparks 2 needs a jumping off point or if anyone else wants to be a dumbass: 1. Start with 4oz vodka, add a caffeinated Berocca tablet or equivalent energy supplement, mix. If you can't find caffeinated one, add a crushed up caffeine pill too. 2. Add 20oz malt liquor (preferably OE). 3. Very carefully mix 3tbsp of tropical punch Kool-aid (may create a lot of foam bc of the carbonation, which can just be scooped out and tossed). Legit tastes just like the original fruit punch 4loko!

John Swan

Craft beer ended when it became illegal to show up to your friend’s kid’s 7th birthday party/bottle-share with expired tags, a $200 bottle of barleywine, and no invite.

D

Kids today will never be able to put Sparks on the belt and convince the cashier they're just energy drinks and this devastates me

Jingle Jangler

I tent my fingers at work constantly. I started ironically but it does feel powerful AF and pisses off my coworkers

Brian Ward

There's caffeinated berocca?

Lilian

Brace's kurdish is KILLING me IJBOL

Budget Hireling

Oh no does this mean that when I went to Alcatraz in elementary school I was betraying the labor movement?

K H

Curdling of the yogurt is not even remotely close to the most absurd thing Brace has said, but Liz being sober for a guest I can see how it might seem more out of pocket than usual.

K H

What do you do? Please say kindergarten overseer.

Jingle Jangler

I am an ER nurse so I get to do it all the time while explaining things to them or asking them to do things, it's really nice stuff. They all sense my strength

Jingle Jangler

I am very pleased to hear other great thoughts leaders of our time have had similar success with this technique.

Peanut Horse

We need a counting log of every time Liz has said “it was a ____ ____” in an episode, I think we are at like 10 at this point

Alaric

Yep, it's a bit harder to find, but I've seen it out there!

12345

Goto the doctor to convince them you have renal failure.

Manuel Villapudua

People shopping at Lids are starting to decorate them with pins. Manufacturers have caught on and started pushing out more and more hats geared towards them. It’s big here in Arizona among Latinos cause we LOVE collectibles and fandom (sports& pop culture). You will see pin/hat vendors at fandom conventions like anime, trading card games, sneakers among other local DIY merchants.

grant brown

i’ve gone to that chobani cafe a bunch of times bc you could keep the lil glass cups 😎 btw it’s tpg not tsg, the P used to stand for pacific

wow jackpot 🎰 sending to all my greek yogurt eating bros

Pink&TealCore

I don't even know if liz said that the Greeks are mountain Turks, or the Kurdish were Mountain Turks xD

ResilientBastard

Utica has great Balkan food and Burmese food

mex207

super weird to get a yogurt

Brendan Garcia

Listen to GBV’s SxSW live show, and you can literally hear Bob Pollard getting drunker from song to song.

Brian Long

Forbes is so bizarre

Brian Long

All food seems fake.

Can't find no more Ancient Age, can't get Anchor Steam, what's the fucking point anymore?

Doc Adna

It's the cute little peachy ensemble he's got going there, irresistible

Matthew Norton

Drug asshole here: Quaaludes aren't actually a barbiturate they're kind of their own thing. They're referred to as a "non-barbiturate hypnotic"

Blank

Holy shit brace that intro was incredible

T

I refuse to believe that Dave Infante and Matt Farwell are different people

Chris Reyes

I love how much Liz references that Kanye quote

Siena

buzz balls are awesome

Pelican Grief

One of the great pleasures of touring with a band was trying each shitty regional domestic lager from Narragansett to Ranier. Beer flavored beer.

Hunter

I read so many things in my head in that cadence now, I read this comment and my immediate thought was, “It was a KANYE quote”

K H

GOATed. How is this technique not in how to make friends and influence people?

Big-Stink

RVA deserves all of the love and all of the hate lmao. Love to hate this place, glad i never applied to Stone when it just opened

Michael S. Judge

That was another funny thing: he said Bob was about 70% faking the onstage drunkness. His technique was to open a bottle or can of beer, hold it up like he was chugging the whole thing, but then put his tongue in the bottle/can opening (pause), so most of the beer would run off the sides of his face, because "that's what rock stars do." Now the OFFSTAGE drunkness, that was something else entirely. GbV once lost a shot at a certain record deal because the A&R guy took them to a fancied-up Mexican restaurant and ordered chicken mole, and Bob's brother Jimmy got furious and started yelling "YOU TOOK US TO A PLACE THAT SERVES FUCKIN' MOLES???," and I'm pretty sure they were authentically drunk that time.

Michael S. Judge

He told me that one of the prerequisites for joining GbV was for Bob to take you on a "Freedom Cruise," which meant that you would drive around the suburbs for as long as Bob wanted while he played you stuff on the stereo and drank lite beer, and he said Bob had this incredible way of opening the passenger's-side door, pulling out his dick, pissing out the door while going 70 on the highway, and the whole operation was surgically clean. My friend, James, asked, "How do you do that?," and Bob said, "It's all in the relaxation of the asshole. Holy shit, I gotta use that for an album title!," and lo and behold, there is a compilation of Bob's onstage banter with a cover photo of him passed out on a couch, and it's called THE RELAXATION OF THE ASSHOLE.

original gay pussy eatah

The guy that designed the Brooklyn Brewery logo also designed “I ❤️ NY”, and some of the very first imagery for public health campaigns about AIDS, Milton Glaser

Militia Etheridge

It’s so fucking weird to me that you have a dude on here that’s presumably an alcohol expert who thinks that malt liquor and beer are the same thing ☹️

Michael Ouderkirk

It's all Millennials and Gen-Xers though. People who got into craft beer in their 20s a decade or two ago are still into it, but the new crop of young folks are more into their THC gummies and disposable vapes.

Rey Fox

Comrade, your hair looked great, along with the rest of you, on the doomscroll episode!

Lucy

Racial Jake? No Autism Jake

mya

lets fucking go richmond!!!!

Philipdelphia

I thought they were until the end of the episode

Gallo Altanero

I was coming back from Syria to Jordan and through to the West Bank. That *click* no noise. I hated. And you can hold the click for a longer time if wanted. I also got super sick Amman sleeping on some Palestinian roof and eventually had to rent a room in Ramallah just to …poop. Then go to Jerusalem where my friend had the key to our home in Birzeit.

Gallo Altanero

The kid next to me though in the cab to Palestine. Anything I asked. *click*. Not a fan. Syrians didn’t like me much either. Nor Lebanese. Palestinians amazing.

dan

what’s the reference i’m always lost

Sean

they should link up

Corey Reynolds

A craft beer episode and Asheville, NC wasn’t mentioned once? I worked at wicked weed in Asheville and the owners also own Proactiv(the acne medicine). They sold all of wicked weed not very long after opening up. So much weird shit to say about Asheville…..obviously. The black confederate, the cults, the Union busting that Chapo covered on an old episode.

ggmacd

Liz's line "we're always looking for new goofs" is how you sell this pod to Canadians

R. Karchnyak

I’m a Labneh guy through & through! Greek yogurt can go fuck off.

malpertuis

I was reading The Arab of the Future and when the dad clicks his tongue and closes his eyes meaning 'no' - I had a flashback to when my dad would do that to me as a kid and I'd get furious! Now Brace is doing it. How do you argue with a tongue click?

Anon Ibid

I got into a car wreck while listening to this episode

alex d

no say it with your full chest brace richmond IS a deadbeat town we call it that too

Dylan

Sleeman Brewery is in my county! 🇨🇦🍻

Sami

Early 2000s richmond was good times. Knew so many hardcore kids and train punks.

Scout Burns

Suggesting an episode about “F for Fake” with Matt Johnson of NTBTS. It’s been brought up on your show, he has brought it up in interviews. Seems worth checking outs

Brendan Garcia

The weird poetry of Bob Pollard is one of the great joys of rock and roll.

Michael S. Judge

Holy shit that just reminded me of something I'd forgotten – James (my friend) told me about some big dinner GbV had, I dunno if it was a record release party or what, and he said Bob's brother Jimmy (who co-wrote lyrics) was there secretively holding a book, like behind his back or on his lap under the table; James was astonished, because he'd never seen Bob OR Jimmy reading a book during his entire tenture with the band. So at one point, he found a chance to corner Jimmy and ask what he was trying to hide, and Jimmy looked all guilty and said, "Sometimes me and Bob use this to help with lyrics," then handed over an ancient dog-eared copy of FINNEGANS WAKE.

Selecao9

it's literally just gross beer what are you saying

Tammy

I think it’s cool they are back, even if in strange and sketchy forms, although haven’t had a chance to try any(afaik). I’m sure some form has ended up in the fent supply somewhere, which is bad. But what a classic! Next we need a Mandrax renaissance(ludes + benedryl basically)

Chapo Bath House

I'm not sure where to ask, but this been driving me crazy: Was there a recent episode where Brace went on a tangent to talk shit about Jeff Rosenstock for like 10 minutes? It seems plausible enough, but I also have been known to nod off on the bus with my headphones in and have boring ass dreams (I'm not on drugs, I have an autoimmune disease, thank you for your understanding)

Selecao9

I fucking adore Glaser's Shakespeare covers

Selecao9

As a Greek, yes, Greeks and Turks are the exact same thing

Alexandria

Same!! Bring him back I'd like to know what else he knows

Danny

Hamdi positions himself as the absolute progressive edge of the capitalist class, and yet when we formed a union at La Colombe (recent Chobani acquisition), he flew all across the country to be there in person, pulling baristas aside to intimidate them out of voting yes 🤔

Alexandria

I'd pay waaaaay too much $ for the Gaddafi tracksuit image on a crop (or any tee I can crop)

Matthew Norton

Yeah from what I understand black market quaaludes are very popular in South Africa for some reason. Back in my drug using days I did manage to get a hold of them once (occasionally someone would get some brought down from Canada). Honestly, it just felt like benzos or barbiturates just way more dangerous.

TrueAnonPod

This is interesting and you should write Dave to tell him about this if you know more!!!

TrueAnonPod

I've never heard his music but doesn't seem like my kind of thing

Jonathan

He also positions himself as the spearhead of a health movement in which Chobani is some kind of monolithic food super-producer. These guys are all “growth mindset” and his aspirations are well beyond yogurt (as evidenced by Anchor purchase). He said it himself at a company retreat when I was an employee 2018-2020 “it’s not about the fucking yogurt.” Also, the whole c-suite bolted (shitcanned?) when they pulled out of the IPO back in ‘21. Peter McGuiness is now President/CEO of Impossible Foods (lol) and Federico Muyshondt is CEO of BodyArmor. The latter is particularly interesting when you look into how he ditched Danone for Chobani.

Tim O'

It's a reference Kanye saying "It was a Jewish doctor."

Danny

🫡 will do. For the record, we implemented the Belden Method and won across several locations unanimously. But Hamdi and co. did successfully pressure some stores in other regions to decertify I think

Chapo Bath House

Some of his stuff is catchy but he's not my favourite guy. Unfortunately, his catchier songs have broken my Spotify algorithm to make my shit like 50% Jeff Rosenstock. This isn't his fault, but it explains why my subconscious had so much mean shit to say

D.Jay Oakes-Munro

Wow, that Discord/school shooter joke did NOT age well

Tranche Devereaux

The Forbes pay2play thing is hilarious … it’s like SuperLawyers… I wouldn’t let my name anywhere near that cuz everyone in your field knows you’re whoring

chronye

im on it but noob.. anything i oughta check out?

chronye

wow chore wheel much?

phoebe L

Very california brained of Liz to assume Wawa sells alcohol 🥲 the commonwealth could never

phoebe L

This is a great anecdote thank u

Reece Coren

We need to get official Wawa spokesman Kyle Scwarber to flame her ass for that

Jolene

Please!

Tammy

Good to know! I was looking for something more dangerous.

Mark Owen

My buddy was delivery driver for a Seattle brewery (owner had been an importer since at least the 80s) in the early 90s, decades later a local mag did a sepia-toned picture of the brewers there since they went on to found a bunch of others (some of which were bought out by InBev). Way pre-mason jars.

original gay pussy eatah

Brace gets a little more racist each time, but I’m still gonna keep listening to this garbage!

sono

never wouldve anticipated a kin euphorics mention😭

Kelson

I am subscribed but I do apologize I could not make it through the tip line episodes. They remind me of Side Stories from LPOTL

LPO Crane Jefferson

cocojune slaps, and I don't like eating any type of yogurt.

Ivan Lopez

How many Americans does it take to do the job of one Japanese otaku🕹️

gav

nothing better than brace making the guest giggle

A

So late to this party but in 2016 I worked in a very high end restaurant in NYC owned and operate by a certain douchebag ultra powerful French-American restaurateur dynasty. Hamdi was at the time dating the daughter of this famously anti-worker, right wing family’s patriarch. (They later had a kid, no idea if they’re still together or not). Point is he always tipped very well and did everything he could to seem like a “good one” and be “inspirational” with his story (which had, it’s true, spectacular details) … But the family he was dating into (and working with in some capacity) are the absolute worst people I ever had the misfortune of working for and famously withheld tips and fucked over employees left and right. Several class action lawsuits - and he was not batting an eye at this whatsoever.
