The way it has been described to me is that it is flower that is tested before any THC-A has the ability to breakdown to THC before the curing process takes place because yeah any old weed you used to buy back in 2008 or whatever is always THC-A (with some THC-A that converted to THC during the curing process) and when you ignite it, the acid burns off and it turns into bioavailable THC. However, this episode spoke to the testing apparatus that growers/sellers take advantage of e.g. this lab said its 20% THC but this lab said its 35% so they can sell it for more/less and brand it has higher THC. But this brings me to the point of where I say, "is this just gas station weed/oil that could have shitty adulterants that make it 'dangerous'" or is it good weed. I guess it depends on the manufacturer or seller. But I wanted to hear the guest speak to that when they got to that point in the conversation.

I got into it because it was a young industry and everything else seemed dead. Most people I used to work with have left. It’s an exploitive industry. I as an old traveler of the green have wondered why you don’t see much bubble hash in dispensaries. This pretty much answered that question. People would rather mass harvest and make concentrates than good flower, and you need good flower to even think about making bubble hash, so it’s gonna be harder to find. I fondly remember doing gravity bong hits from a 5 gallon flower pot and a giant bottle of kitty litter. Or smoking hash under glass using an old light bulb. This episode brought back fantastic memories of my 20s and for that I am deeply thankful. I very much want to read that book your guest is writing. My boyfriend’s family farm switched to cannabis when they were able to get a license in NY…took YEARS for legalization to happen, so in the meantime they grew hemp which did indeed sit in coolers rotting because there isn’t really a market for CBD. Upon legalization, they’ve now brought in 2 different management companies under a “manage-to-eventually-own” type model, as old man is trying to sell and retire. First management co had to be booted out with a giant lawsuit, second is not far from that outcome. The fact that this is all investor-based has been absolutely miserable, there’s never money for capital improvements, the management co. owners/CEOs literally just do insanely shady deals and outright steal money and don’t pay for genetics, and the staff they bring in with them (from CA) are idiots and sheisters. It’s a giant cursed industry in NY

I work on a small family weed farm in Humboldt County where legalization has decimated our community. One thing we really need is direct to consumer sales so people can see what good clean weed is like. The amount of regulations we have to deal with is insane compared with any other agricultural product. The fact that hemp is able to atp be treated differently while making intoxicating products is also crazy. The amount of trash that the METRC program produces is disgusting. Overall it is just a really depressing time to be a small farmer growing an excellent product.
