I had a funny old edition of McTeague by Frank Norris with a cool cover I'd meant to give you but totally forgot. I feel like a book like that should go to a native San Franciscan. I will say this as someone who has vast experience interacting with people from Long Island, and have traveled there unfortunately multiple times. It’s not the Midwest or the South that contains the heart of the rot in this country.
