On August 9, 2024, the IDF shot and wounded Daniel Santiago, a schoolteacher from New Jersey, in the West Bank. We talk to Daniel about Israeli violence, what it feels like to get shot, and how some shot Americans are worth more to the US Government than others.

The warning shots passed through the air. Like they shot into the air infront of people they were aiming at as a warning. Like they shot into the air but also into the person. You can check the forensics. The bullet touched air before impact with non air components of anti Israeli agitation units.

Tibet?

I met some BT news people when I lived in nyc helping out w tenant union stuff and they were chill

DaFunkBackToDaPunk

You know it’s gonna be a depressing ep when Liz hits you with the sad “yeah 😔” early on

malfeasance

This episode had me in tears, for a lot of reasons, but holy shit is Daniel a fucking legend. Y'all made me ugly cry for the first since I left rehab over a year ago. Top tier interview from a top tier dude.

Ian H

Taiwan getting robbed here

Antipaganda

What's the point of being a citizen of a superpower if the government won't use its power to protect you from being murdered by another country's government? This is the most basic thing. The USA is weak af.

fugitivedocument

Çok teşekkür ediyorum sizi Gözlerinizden öperim.

saaffie

Canada for sure - created a national day to ensure the US and Russia wouldn't work together - the British empire couldn't let them work together an be stronger than it.

Mark Owen

Solidarity from the boring side of America.

Carolyn

Thank you for this, guys. Really great ep. Thanks to Daniel for coming on

Kamran Husain

israel is so evil they got me feeling bad for a british guy

jeff_tries_to_snatch

This is frustrating. Like what actually has to happen for us to stop bankrolling Israel? It's fucking crazy

Reece Coren

Great interview. Thank you Daniel 🩷

Christian Bendillo

Does anyone know any good documentaries on the settlements with footage? I’ve been trying to find a good one that isn’t from untrustworthy sources.

LPO Crane Jefferson

Mad respect for Nerdeen, Abdullah, and Fatima from Within Our Lifetime. Thanks Daniel for sharing.

XxX_ShingyDisciple_XxX

Star Theater cancelled my ticket to the show tn for ??? reason, if you see anyone going absolutely east meets west outside its me

Alexander Johnson

Sly word choice in the phrasing "And we take the safety and security of American citizens *incredibly* seriously." He's right. "Incredibly" just means "not to be believed."

dopamean

I would have liked you guys to have pushed a bit on the whole “I said no to Corey booker” but then a few minutes later “if my own representative had made more of an issue of my shooting maybe smoke else wouldn’t have gotten killed.”

TrueAnonPod

I think there’ll be tickets at door—what did it say?

12345

Maybe and this is just a thought. But the abscence of American flags might have to do with the fact this woman was murdered with an American bullet from an American gut shot by an American ally with American money.

more beatles needle drops 🙌

Thank you for your service Daniel! 🫡

While studying at Birzeit we used to go to these protests all the time. Until I found them pretty impractical. But we were connected more with PFLP. DFLP guys though I have to credit, little Maoist kids hitting the front lines. And then the international groups waving flags and getting tear-gassed hard. I bought the thickest leather jacket in Ramallah I could find cause rubber bullets are not fun. And I put on Dead Prez. Cause I was pretty scared. Once bullets started hitting trees the PFLP told me to take my khaffiyeh off and show my blonde hair. Bunch of people end up shot and then disappear in the night from the hospital. IDF know who they are and you are prepared for them to show up in the middle of the night at your place. Islamic Jihad would usually be more strategic. I ended up stuck with one of those guys in the trees. He never took his kheffiyeh off once the live rounds started. They move in the shadows but you know who they are from town or the university, everyone supports everyone. I ended up in Shatila shortly after in Lebanon. I had no idea I was moving into a PFLP leaders home to be clear. But damn I learned a lot. So many stories from the PFLP. Red Cross got me a letter sent out in blood from my roomie when a tank showed and about 15-20 IDF after a skirmish where my other friend has his leg nearly blown off by a dom dom and then they found a bullet shell in our house. They would slap his hands. They were surprised to see me there and hid near our night light and asked where we got it I said the village over. We saw them raid them I felt terrible about that. I still have that letter. He has gone underground since getting out. They sent me to Tulkarem, and that got taken down. Then Jenin. Then I left to Syria. I did graduate eventually though. Islamic Jihad student group invited me to their English seminar. They were terrible. Good guys though.

yung's newer transition music srsly giving wendy carlos

I see his point of wanting to get him in a room with other activists, but I think building that repoir by actually talking with him before hand could have made a difference.

Ian H

I mean, I don't think he gave an exact timeline of events, but it seemed like what he had a problem with is what you're describing; after not publicly condemning the shooting or expressing support/sympathy for his constituent, he later reached out privately, through an intermediary, for whatever reason he might personally have to do so. While there might be a strategic argument for engaging with him anyway, what Daniel is calling Booker out for and what he's "offering" are clearly very different.

Nat

My toddler said “bye bye” back at the end of the episode today. He’ll also give a “yay” for the musical interludes when he’s really feelin it

Simon Maraya

If anyone tries to fly an American flag at the funeral of someone I love, I'll det the vest

Rachael

I haven’t seen it yet but The Night Won’t End by Kavitha Chekuru is one that just came out

OH

Great episode. So I was listening to this while down the street in SF and I saw Liz + Brace. For a second I had Brace talking inside and outside my earphones. That was surreal

K H

Raise them early for jihad.

K H

Who the fuck flies American flags at a funeral besides cucks that died by cucking? You know how you drive by cemeteries and funerals and are always seeing all those...American flags? Not a thing.

K H

It was stated he wanted him to come to a certain event. Not a private apology or whatever 0 risk 0 publicity thing he wanted to do. He explained this exact position.

K H

Were these hoes in San Fran?! I missed my chance 😢

K H

They have to lose and start costing the wrong people money. Saudi Arabia could probably bring this to a halt as well. Many institutions must be destroyed, UN among them.

K H

Death to nazis. Swift and just.

K H

Absolutely Taiwan. Confused me so much as a kid when I heard stories about recognizing "China." Taiwan is number 2 after Israel. I'm sorry Taiwan, you're cool, but also clearly there is one China and it ain't you.

JZA

The Settlers. It’s so fucking wild

H

The guy is very cool but his recommendations for political action are weak and confusing compared with his own actual actions. “Talk to your senator even though we’ve seen that doesnt do anything” is a kinda wild take

XxX_ShingyDisciple_XxX

i emailed them about something else and they cancelled it, it's all love though, it's a free ticket lol

K H

Many forms of speech.

kmd

I went from shift ending at 2 am to shift starting at 5 am. I've always been a night owl and was able to trick my brain into thinking I was just waking up early to enjoy the late night. Maybe Brace can give that a shot and y'all can record at like 4 am

Kamran Husain

i’m genuinely confused and wondering if you are me

Kevin McNamee

Great episode. Does anyone know the website to purchase a keffiyeh mentioned in the episode? Or a reputable site where proceeds go to Palestinians?

b2b saas purveyor

ye correct me if im wrong but didnt the iof quit going after aid workers after pelosi raised hell over the world central kitchen double-tap strike to brandon, who in turn raised hell w/ bibi? sure, booker doesnt carry quite that much weight but cant help but wonder what a the 1:1 mtg could've led to

christian

sending love to daniel, thanks for coming on ❤️🇵🇸

Corey Reynolds

What’s the tip line number for weird shit? Nashville has a guy with half a head and exposed brain walking around downtown(I can send links and pics). Y’all should do an episode on the depravity of downtown Nashville. We’re Austin jr. Right wing weirdos and California Crystal mommies are moving here in droves and we got bombed by a weirdo 4 years ago that I think y’all did an episode on.

Kelson

I want to know too

K H

In one many. In many one.

Louise

Great guy great interview

JV

The place to get authentic kuffiyeh's from is called Hirbawi, I have several and can attest to the quality and they're not expensive at all. It's the only factory left producing them owned and run by Palestinians that's actually inside Palestine

JV

Israeli troops preventing ambulances from reaching wounded Palestinians or from transporting wounded Palestinians to hospital is such a routine occurrence in the west bank it's crazy, and often enough involves them shooting at the paramedics or detaining them.

Tyler

Any way you guys could do a “where are they now episode”? It would be great to get an update on some of the freaks.

Karl from the Simpsons

Absolutely and you can hear in his voice he is still shaken up about (like a normal person would be). Tremendously brave act to draw attention to the most evil people in the world

ohnoitsthefuzz

Second Hirbawi. I bought one in 2014 and just bought a new one. You have to get on their email list so you get notified of the next release. I clicked on three hours in and there was a web queue of 1500 people, took about 30-45 minutes to get in to place an order, received probably 3 weeks later. I bought a leather wallet from them too, it's beautiful.

Danny

Good on you Daniel

Trevor Wookfield

I'm no nationalist, but the volunteers should be dressed full MAGA patriot, with a American flag and eagle shirt, 🇺🇸 pants, etc. At least if the IDF shoots you it could make a viral photo for the international press or at least social media. But, all the respect in the world for your guest. I suspect his students will reflect on him throughout their lives. ❤️

Five Broken Cameras

Christian Bendillo

Just watched it, everyone needs to see how insane these people are

Christian Bendillo

That was really really good. It’s interesting to see their perspective of the violence interlaid with just regular life.
