I was in the same grade as Chrystia Freeland's daughter in high school and briefly hung out with the same friend group. It was a few years before the stuff about Freeland's grandfather was really public, but I remember being a bit surprised at how zealously nationalistic the whole family was even compared to most other Ukrainian-Canadians I've met. Also, re: Nazi exiles in Canada, I just recently learned that Otto Strasser (leader of the Strasserite faction of the Nazi Party alongside his brother, Gregor) lived in Montréal and then Nova Scotia from 1941-55 and wrote for a bunch of Canadian, American, and British newspapers despite continuing to promote his version of Nazism (including a Montreal Gazette series ghost-written by Donald C. MacDonald, owner of the most stereotypically Canadian name ever and longtime provincial leader of the Ontario CCF/NDP)

Two good resources for the Canadian-Nazi links are Moss Robeson (previous TrueAnon guest) and Lev Golinkin. Lev is more mainstream and has features at many news outlets. He’s involved in a project to find nazi monuments around the world. Moss is among the most talented researchers on this and has a blog with ridiculously rigorous and comprehensive articles. His interview with John-Paul Himka on YouTube would be especially useful for you. I hope this is a good starting point for you, you can learn a lot from these two and they can help you find other resources through their collaborations and work. So, you ask about other Hitlers, and as it happens there were other Hitlers and one has a buckwild story. Considering YC edited in the Beatles right before you say it, it might seem a bit of a wild coincedence. I present to you, William Patrick Hitler. Born in Toxteth, Liverpool, he was the nephew of Hitler. Imagine Hitler, but with a Scouse accent. There was a whole branch of them there for a while, and they liked to make stories about being related to the Hitler fella. It's quite funny to me. Anyway... When Hitler rose to power, William moved to Germany to get a nepotism job, which uncle Adolf did for him, getting him into the Reichsbank. William was unhappy with this, and then tried to blackmail his uncle (including claims about the Hitlerian ancestry), repeatedly, until he started to feel unsafe and left the country. Returning to the UK, William then wrote an article for a magazine where he spread family gossip titled "Why I Hate My Uncle", which included bits about Hitler getting his niece pregnant and her killing herself. He then went to America, where he was drafted to the Navy not long after arriving, fighting in the Pacific theatre. He eventually changed his name, because apparently living with the name Hitler is a bit of a problem.
