The NBA is already going to launch a Les Vegas franchise within the next few years, there's no leverage on that, and destroying the Mavs just makes the Adelsons less money. They didn't want to play "a disobedient employee" $345 million, Nico Harrison was probably fuckin' sick of Luka for years, and this was Nico's first chance to move Luka without somebody up the chain vetoing it. It's a horrendous trade, but they did the secret Nico/Pelinka talks because they were scared of "Luka's on the market" cratering his value, and everybody would see a 5x All-NBA player and perpetual MVP candidate and think "What the fuck is SO WRONG with this guy that Dallas is even considering trading him?" They almost certainly would've gotten a better return anyway, but that's how Nico rationalized it. (Plus, there IS a chance that Luka crumbles from the knees down over 2-3 years.)

Embiid is just as bad except for he probably gets more calls than Luka. In any case you are right about how annoying it is (and I’m a Mavs fan). The flip side is Kyrie is right beside him and rarely flops and, most amazingly, is probably the best handle in the league despite carrying far less than most of their players in the league. You don’t get rewarded for that , though.

Honestly I think it's a sign of both a good host and a good friend to be able to just shut the fuck up and let someone talk with others when you don't have much to contribute.
