Hammer City already exists….

Ash

i learned about clang associations when i discovered that schizo guy on instagram that loves sucking toes lmao

Mungo Franczak

Speaking of compounds… the Bush compound? In Maine? LOTS of long sight lines, with great views of the house. Just putting that out there.

Of course a chick named Emily who went to an art highschool with a diffuse sense of self got caught up in a cult. Many such cases

Gator lord

Brace I love you for your contribution to the Alec Baldwin comment

MCL

My favorite schizophrenic rapper is Mathew Garapic of Tampa FL, rapper, politician and hooker enthusiast who is THRICE BORN with Trump and Elon and is 6’3 with his shoes on. He has a 6 figure condo and makes 6 figures in the insurance industry and he loves prostitutes

Hunter Saint Hunter

I grew up in the suburbs... all i did when i was a teenager was smoke my mom's cigs and play gaia online. Its super inspiring to hear about kids who actually got off their ass, even in my 30s. 🥺

pizzapope

Yuh Nan? Does brace mean Yunnan?

Jacob

ResilientBastard

Wowww I remember this. I went to a very human rights, soc justice oriented church on Long Island and went to Cuba in 2007 for Easter, stayed with a sister church an hour or two from Havana. There was a story I. The papers about another group of students being detained, must have been Beacon, so we were all really nervous. It went fine though and the customs guy asked if I had smoked any cigars with Fidel.

Alek

Hey just a heads up if you’re calling the NYS speaker about the CREEP Act, you’ll need a bill number! Use either of these: bill S3394/A3226

Big news week but we need to hear thoughts on the pathetic 250th anniversary military “parade” this weekend. They took away woke and suddenly US soldiers don’t know how to march anymore😩

Degrassi Knoll

HELL YEAH! If we just get a few thousand more people on board, the act of simply changing a 0 to an 8 or a 1 to a 7 will bring the USPS to it's knees. Then it can be privatized.

Oliver Compton

When Liz said she knew someone who could rap karaoke well I knew it was a hot lesbian. Doo-wop confirms it. Alas even they don’t get the pass! No rap!!

John Q Public

Well you accomplished the same amount, and that’s three whole sentences you didn’t bring up your prestige high school in- I find that a little more inspiring

K H

Doing cocaine in high-school? In NYC? Was she in a primetime teen drama?

GWOT teenage life was very radicalizing so I liked hearing this episode. My teacher got sent to Iraq because they were in the national guard. I think watching adults make bad choices could open up a lot of people to cults.

Chas Padunski

Personally, I do not believe Christ would’ve blockaded Cuba.

shon

This is normal for well off new york white kids lol

Kate Derringer

This episode was so, so good. Love this show so much

Aj Champigny

Directing everyone in the Comments section to check out the podcast they mentioned The Empire Never Ended. Boris, Fritz, and Ray are all fuckin Brilliant and have taught me a ton in a really fun way, a bit different than this show but TENEpod FUCKS, fellow Trueanoners

Never in one billion years did I think I’d hear Hammond, Louisiana get a shoutout on Trueanon. Truly massive shithole

Hank Piper

Went to Cuba with the VB this past summer. Unfortunately, much the same cultish pseudo-communist dynamics combined with white privilege discourse. Pretty whacked out, and on this particular trip everyone was at each other’s throats over perceived racial transgressions that were mostly invented out of whole cloth in order to stage fake struggle session theater outside the soviet-era hotels we were staying at. Being in my late 20’s and having gone to college during peak privilege discourse in the 2010’s, it was much harder to stomach than if I had been 18 or younger. And Cuba (from what little I could see beyond the confines of the propaganda tour) has been suffering exponentially more since Covid and Trump’s final hour placement of the country on the Global Sponsors of Terrorism list (which Biden left them on until his final hour, and then Trump/little Marco placed them back on as soon as January 20th rolled around). SAD!

Nothingburger Burgerreich

Took me a solid 2 minutes to figure out they weren’t talking about Iggy Azalea

TrueAnonPod

If you go down to Hammond You'll never come back

Honestly expected much worse from the intro tease of a notorious art school teacher in NYC

GolfBaller

I hear the house classic "Can You Feel It?" by Mr. Fingers in the closing track. Cool stuff.

Ant koz

I have often felt like this show is custom media for me, I thought the pinnacle was an episode about Cleveland punk, but this may top that. I think being an 07 high school graduate helps, it seems that is premium truanon age… I heard a story about these communist youth brigades at a very oogly anarchist house in New Orleans years later, it’s very cool to hear a more detailed version of what this stuff was really about… I relate so much with all this shit in that time, searching for art and wanting to play music and find something bigger…. unfortunately being a north Atlanta suburban white boy who wanted culture more than anything but didn’t even know what it was… it started with heroin instead of ending there. The cruel joke five years later was finding carbonas and black lips after the fact and feeling like it was riiiigghhhtt there under my nose!! But as it is shooting speedballs in the bluff and trying to be seen nodding out in little five points was as good as self destructive youth culture got for me… which it could be worse… the kids now don’t even have real drugs…

tubularballs

i went to cuba in 2022 from miami after learning from this show that its possible. you literally just go, nobody will stop you i promise.

💯 this, especially the David Myatt shit! Best pod for O9A weirdos and eastern European Hitler freaks

Why was this episode almost 2 hrs. Jeez.

John Lemieux

Because it’s such a nice place you’ll move there?

Did you wait the full 2hrs to post this comment or realize that no one is forcing you to listen?

Wow. Emily’s avant garde rap style is… something.

Hey Brace thanks for the info on the anti stalking bill and I’m on it 🫡🫡🫡🫡 currently being electronically stalked by an ex and even THAT is terrifying. I used to work with people being physically stalked and it’s so scary and misunderstood

I like clanging, it’s very good and in a way reminds me of the newish kim Gordon collective release that’s a sort of industrial noise trip hop record though clanging is distinctly more millennial and Kim’s thing x’er.. I think I would have still made the connection if Emily hadn’t stated her rapping is listing her grocery list, which is quite literally what Gordon does on the single byebye.. I am here for white women of a certain age (mid30s or post 70) and of various musical aptitude deciding … “it’s time for me to start making hip hop music, right now…”

would've liked to hear more about Turner

Create a signal account for the tip line! Or publish a PGP key for the email address! The tips will surely only get more salacious! Signal supports voice memos, which is basically Gen-Z voicemail etc etc. mkay thanks

gatito

logan i liked and then unliked your comment because i realized that music is subjective, although i did not personally enjoy the bit that i listened to, that doesn’t mean that others won’t either. all love bossman

Jingle Jangler

Its gonna blow your mind when you learn how marx grew up lmao

gatito

when it comes to cuba there’s this weird dichotomy between acknowledging the effects of the blockade while simultaneously accepting the reality that it’s genuinely a terrible place to live for the majority of its inhabitants, and that really seems to trip up a lot of leftists. i think it’s also difficult for non spanish speakers, as they can’t actually consume media coming directly from cuba from a source thay isn’t either reactionary or trying to glorify it as a communist paradise. cuba is an incredible testament to the human spirit, to the pursuit of emancipation and self governance, but it is also an example of what US-inflicted isolation can do on a national scale.

Kai

You should really consider going to the dentist

gatito

such a strange realization that some people actually did things during their high school years, i just rode around on my bike doing shrooms with my friends and and shoplifting from big box stores

christian

damn i really did not expect emily's album to go as hard as it does. rocker.

christian

the kim gordon comp is so real!!

christian

it actually rips logan sorry

Hank Piper

Yea that dichotomy definitely causes some serious cognitive dissonance (and def caused it on the brigade I was on). And 1000% agreed about non-spanish speakers. I can’t speak spanish and I could feel the limitations super acutely - and then the few folks I trusted on the trip talked with me a lot about how much was being lost in translation in both directions. It definitely made me want to learn Spanish even more badly than I already did, and then go back either with another group or semi independently (there are folks in my life who know cuban folks I could stay with in different parts of cuba).

Hank Piper

This was such an awesome episode. Really identified with the guest’s trajectory (I went to a weird liberal arts school in wema, dealt with some culty shit there, crashed out post-college and had a bit of an identity crisis, also went to cuba and experienced similar dynamics). And that song Perfect Brain slaps.

Rory Blank

I met one of the guys Brandon Darby set up at a party a few years after he got out. He seemed like a really sweet guy. I really hope he's doing okay.

gatito

learn spanish! i learned it more for travel/out of general interest than for any other reason, but as someone who works in construction i run into a ton of spanish speaking folks and i have learned so much and been able to deepen my understanding and empathy for spanish speaking communities both in the states and elsewhere, 100% recommend.

Hank Piper

thank you for the further encouragement :) I really need to get on it. I was a farm worker for a little and everything I learned was from my mexican coworkers and even just the bit of broken spanish and english we exchanged was really meaningful. would love to be able to deepen that.

Hardcore Virgin

As someone who sucks at things and considers the existence of most things good. I find it hard to distinguish between this and the crypto thief girl. Why am I blanking on her name. Razzle Kahn. There are some serious similarities I find it too difficult to ignore. Also. Remember MC Paul Bergman? Is this just nerdy Jewish rapping. I’m also assuming Emily is Jewish. Whatever. Everyone is good and this is what it is. Edit. MC Paul Barman

Antipaganda

Yeah, it's all fentanyl, even if it isn't supposed to be. They even had ketamine wrecked for them by Elon pissing his pants and rolling his face in the Oval.

Antipaganda

Disavow! Don't do it though. But if you do...

Pranjal Dwivedi

Sorry to be annoying and love you Brace, it’s *ecumenical

jer

Lol. Fair. I was in a car ride alone so listening was easy. However, I did expect this to go somewhere and not just hear this woman repeat herself several times. Then I saw 20 min were left in the pod and it became clear there was no there there and made the decision to post. Thems the facts.

Pelican Grief

Why can I hear Brace's Schumer eyes in this one

dan

communism is when your mouth stinks

PT

Before listening to the episode I thought the album consisted of a white lady rapping about the C++ compiler Clang and was extremely disappointed it wasn’t that.

Jeremy

Does anyone else fw Red Star Over China

Jennifer Hammerhead

This episode gave me flashbacks. My spouse and I went through a very similar experience during our late teens and early 20s only with the social justice wings Evangelicalism. There are things that "happened" (meaning IDK if it was real or not.. because it can't be?) that I still think about constantly, manipulative leaders, abuses, compounds, literally every thing you talked about! You are not alone comrade! Thank you for sharing your story!

K

On a similar note Yall should seriously reach out to suhthescholar (formerly of black hammer) theyve since left and seems to be doing well, and got a ton of hate in the past but was obviously really strongly indoctrinated and I always felt horrible for them but would love to hear how they’re doing now.

Antipaganda

Fuck facist banks, fuck yeah mate

Cal

Antipaganda

Born in 1979, but emotionally stunted to the perfect degree to love this early 2000s-like album. Life is sweet! Who has two thumbs? My mom!

Claire Simon

I do Real Slim Shady at karaoke way more than I care to admit

Rhiannan S Berry

Craaaaaazy hearing y'all mention Hammond/Tangipahoa. I grew up in a <1000 population town in the parish and worked for the Tangipahoa dept of public health as a clerk for a few years as a teen. Would obviously agree with Emily that it's a weird place lol. And not to brag, but I'm distantly related to Britney Spears by marriage (as everyone else claims in the area, too)

Rhiannan S Berry

I was a preteen during Katrina, but worked for DPH in the aftermath managing vital records (birth/death/marriage certs). As you can imagine, that area got their shit absolutely rocked given the lack of digitizing done at the time. On top of the immediate devastation, it is just an additional slow torture for ppl to lose documentation like that.

Zane

Lol I know that researcher guy

Shiv

Someone of the 141 of us probably mentioned this, but “schizo break ppl rapping at me” is one of Felix’s soapbox topics. Hope he listens to the ep and the album!

Shiv

Also: Emily and Brace need to contribute to a Memoir Anthology I’m envisioning called Teen Anarchy (or maybe Consensus Decision, serious about the memoir tho)

ERIC

It was for a favor that will see dividends in time. Don't hold your breadth.

Riaz Abdulla

1:18:30 is Brace describing Birthright?

ERIC

Cool, we get a one word reply for all the crazy self reply guys in the comments section now.

I’m coming to that realization too. At the end of the day they’re too comfortable to actually do anything. Buncha wannabe tradesmen unionists

Great episode, and a great album. I listened to Clanging on a golden hour cruise to Logan Pass and a saw a bunch of bighorn sheep . 🐑 🏔️

Ever since high school I made the decision that I would never sing in karaoke bc I can’t sing so for like 25 years I have only ever rapped karaoke- mostly in NYC. The worst was “I like the way you move” in union sq (it’s complex and fast 🥴) Best was paper planes in Ktown . I stopped Karaoke when I stopped drinking tho (12 years ago) 🌚

zack

When I was a freshman at The Evergreen State College in Olympia WA in 2011 some radfems (they also cited the SCUM manifesto) spray painted “kill the patiarchy” on a wall between the dorms and the cafeteria and that was a big laugh for awhile

zack

This isn’t very nice

I was born in a compound. It burnt down when I was 17 and most of my family died. I still yearn for the compound, but it is irreplaceable. I will not be moving into any new compound, none could compare.

When I heard Kentwood I was like "huh, yeah that's where we get those jugs of water from," had no idea about the Britney Spears thing

Site Insistent

it could be worse, it could be Mandeville

Logan

This reminded me why I’m just not built for NYC

Shiv

I’m so curious about paranormal vibes as part of cultish experience and wish Emily had wanted to delve a bit more into it! And here for it if you want to. Usually in my Reading those two things don’t overlap so much

Shiv

crazy thing I learned reading Kim’s memoir - she’s a Boomer (i’d legitimately had no idea)

Shiv

gossip girl is a documentary

Will Copeland

You know Peaches is making The Sphere a giant clit.

Salex

I spent a long time as a documented crazy person. It blows my tiny (thankfully recovered) mind how freakin’ correct I was about a lot of the shit that other people told me I was being weird about. It’s not unusual for an appointment with my shrink to feature some variation, “Remember that thing? Turns out I wasn’t completely mad”. It’s not paranoia if they really are out to get you!

Salex

But on balance, my diary is full of other really nutty things…

CC

seconded! Very cool human who seems to have done a lot of growth.

Salex

Former high-control group member here - definitely DO NOT move to the compound 😂. It’s never as cool as it looks and people are definitely not having a good time. Same with those “study group” losers. If everyone on your internship program has started dressing the same and developed dark circles under their eyes, prepare to run. If there are mandatory but “informal” meetings in circle formation where everyone talks about how special they are. Doesn’t matter if there’s free food, booze or drugs, that’s a party you 100% need to EXIT. Trust.

Natalie

That's iconic - also as an avid karaoke enjoyer I like when people can't sing. I'm not laughing at you, I'm laughing with you <3 I did Charli sympathy is a knife a few months ago and those high notes were ROUGHHHHH lmao. Def get why it wouldn't be as fun sober lol that takes a true warrior

Natalie

If I was a TrueAnon guest and they put my name in the title I would be so honored

PequodPod

You can absolutely still travel to Cuba from the US. There are direct flights. I went this April.

tubularballs

how is there a dichotomy? of course life is terrible under the blockade. the two are inseparable.

Clean Shirt Piggie

It was the like raw milk Cuba caravan like cult movement man

Zach

Ah the organoponicos…

HonestEd

Interesting episode, but I feel like it would have benefited from some more background about the whole thing

Hank Piper

I mean, we can quibble with the word “dichotomy”, but I think the point gatito was making is about the psychological process of reconciling that a) yes we can all agree the blockade sucks but b) that this also means we need to disabuse ourselves of the idea that Cuban society is some ideal bc actually it doesn’t always function very well bc of the blockade. To which you might say, duh, but you’d be surprised how many ppl I saw on that trip trying to hide from the reality that things were not as nice there for people as they might want them to be. And this seems to be a common dynamic on these trips, from what I can tell from talking to others.

DevNulllluNveD

No offense but the music reminds me of razzlekhan’s hit “Versace Bedouin”

Zach Young

You will be happy to know this is still a cultural tradition at the magical evergreen state college

Ryan

what a great episode. also loving the new guitar vibe YC

tubularballs

yeah ive definitely seen ppl try to defend it as a paradise without acknowledging that life there is unbelievably difficult

Oscar Marcus Boyle

This makes sense of why I did that JFK conspiracy rap concept album while I was going through some shit

T Sur

I like how y'all interview people. You let them actually speak, which is refreshing. That said, how are we going to address the left's spiritual problem when people can't recognize when they are doing religion?

T Sur

weird

Jacob Makes

i studied abroad there for 4 months

Jacob Makes

when i studied in cuba i walked past the pastors for peace bus on the way to the university every day for 4 months

PT

Episode was the equivalent of a tennis match against an opponent that never returns a serve on a surface where the ball can’t bounce. It was frustrating listening to them trying to get the guest to follow through on a story or finish making a point they started.

Olivia

Can we finally get a Katrina ep ❤️

OutofBeerRage

Nevermind Mao, some of her Music rules

gatito

which in turn inspired “Nightmares” by Clipse, which is in my opinion one of the greatest rap songs ever made.

gatito

exactly, i don’t mean to seperate the two things, because obviously the first is causal to the second, but speaking from my own experience, from the leftist perspective in which i grew up, i had this idea that Cuba was a magical place where everyone was literate, highly educated politically, and more or less healthier than the average LATAM citizen. while there may be some truth to that, i had a bit of a rude awakening when, after learning spanish, i starting to consume more Cuban media (youtube videos, comments on forums, etc) and was forced to accept that it is really a brutal place to live, and the outside pressures have corrupted whatever benevolent governance existed under Castro.

gatito

@Hank Piper very well put, you explained it a lot better than i did haha

Ani Dani

So crazy. I volunteered in college and went down to that urban farm in the 9th ward. I remember meeting Nat and him giving us a tour of the area. I also remember not really liking him because he said some shit about Palestinian people and thinking his name was a little corny.

Rei Lem

Wow shout out Emily we were in the same year at lag :) hiiii

Hank Piper

yup to all this! there were definitely many cubans i met who seemed genuinely proud to live under a socialist govt and quite happy with some aspects of their lives. But it’s pretty tough to pull off a redistributive state when there is a dwindling supply of goods. This is something basically every Cuban we talked to very readily admitted. One example that stuck with me was when we visited a hospital and while they boasted about having for instance extremely low maternal/infant mortality rates, they also talked frankly about the fact that their cancer ward was extremely constrained bc they did not have steady access to medical machinery (chemo treatment set ups etc.) to treat folks. Also the wealth disparity between those with income from remittances and those without is significant and growing, and there are clearly top PCC officials who are doing a lot better than other Cubans. To list just some examples of ways in which things are not great. I’m sure to some extent all of the above is not exactly news - you can’t exactly build a perfect socialist state when you are living under a capitalist world system hell-bent on punishing you for trying to exercise economic sovereignty. But if our goal is to learn from Cuba’s many successes and build solidarity between Cubans and Americans, it would seem smart to be honest about their shortcomings, and to what extent those shortcomings are simply handicaps developed as consequences of the blockade or stemming from their own strategic/policy missteps. It also seems important to ground all this in historical time - levels of prosperity looked different in 1959 (when the country was very much still ravaged by Batista’s dictatorship and a half a century of American economic occupation) and in the 70’s and 80’s (when the country benefited massively from trade with and assistance from the USSR) and in the 90’s (during the special period) and in the years directly before the Trump administration (when some easing of the blockade created a relatively large infusion of money from tourism and other economic ventures) to now (when Covid and increasing restrictions have made the country more impoverished and hollowed out than it has maybe been at any time since before the revolution). I really hope that we can affect some kind of political change in this country such that the boot of American capital and the deep state can be taken of Cuba’s neck, but right now it’s bleak. Official Cuban data shows that in the past few years, a staggering 10% of the country’s population has been lost to emigration - the largest exodus in Cuban history. Anyway, sorry for the long meandering comment, I just think it’s all important context and wish that there was more earnest discussion of what all this means in left American spaces dedicated to Cuba solidarity (I don’t claim to know what all this portends).

Dredre

I don’t think she’s lying at all but she speaks like she’s making up a story as she goes along

NEEMS

what'd he say about palestinians

Cardboard

The events are from over 15 years ago

Ani Dani

It wasn’t about Palestine but he said the area was a food desert and the only way to get food in those areas was going to the grocery stores that were owned by the “racist ass Palestinians” who live in New Orleans. I just remember not liking that blanketed statement.

FT-Jan

you say that now, but you could join my mountain “retreat”

OG Cracker Barrel

Listening to this brought me straight back to 2005-07 when I actually thought vertical farming was the answer and wooks were the shit. I also went to Warren Wilson in Swannanoa (rip) for a few years, which felt like a camp where they made you work for min wage on campus 1/3rd of your time there. Accredited cult? Who’s to say.

Matty C

Brace can’t go for other reasons probably

Jacob King

Really nice episode. The story rhymed with a some things I’ve witnessed in more conservative insular religious communities. I’m currently listening to the Iggy/Peaches song for the first time in 22 years. They definitely both had worse tracks, but yeah

Coolsoy

It's okay to like things.

M

I was on the summer 06 Beacon trip to New Orleans with turner. Spent a month living in the POC house and gutted houses 6 days a week for 8 hours a day. Emily’s description of that time is totally accurate, I have friends who also stuck around with Turner and were part of the school too. 20 years later it’s clear that he was/is a nut but at the time he really made us feel like we had control over our lives and were making a difference in the world.

RC

No it isn’t

M

Also worth nothing that my time in New Orleans was insane with zero supervision, multiple kids got injured doing demolition and a teacher slept with one of the students.

Chris Ryan

That song fuckin slaps

Yuri Rybak

I also grew up in downtown manhattan and found myself in the lower 9th ward in 2007 managing the blue house for common ground. I wound up getting into direct conflict with Brandon and left after 6 months. I remember drinking water out of anheiser busch cans, tivek suits and lots of ravioli. Gutting flooded houses all day felt good but the internal politics and of course Brandon’s cult of personality were a bit much. I started smoking a pack a day and drinking a lot at night. When I got back to college my alcoholism got really bad. One time Brandon invited me to the back of a grungy soul food restaurant and we ate a meal in silence together as some sort of weird intimidation tactic. I guess there’s a lot of other weird stuff but too much to get into here. Brandon started to ask me to do weirder and weirder things and eventually I just left because it got to be too much. I remember feeling pretty bad about leaving at the time, like I had failed at something. Thanks for making this, sometimes I just forget that any of this even happened because it all feels so unreal. I also struggled with a proclivity towards freestyling in my younger days.

Ian :3

I believe he’s referring to his time at Monarch, would recommend their series The Game about that and Synanon

Doc Adna

Cmon doo wop is easy

Doc Adna

Also i think we need to find you guys some working class friends. Y'all hanging out with a lot of bougies, not gonna lie although no disrespect to the bougie in question

buttface

Whole lotta nothing on this one. A rare TA miss. You guys really need to stop having your personal friends on the show because it rarely goes well. Let's keep it a little more professional please.

Mungo Franczak

Oh yes of course! I DISAVOW my previous statement!

Don’t trust the Amish about farming. They’re ok farmers at best, but people think that they’re these wholistic stewards of the land, and they’re not. The Amish are urbanite artisans and merchants.

The 42 Project

you don't really find out until 1:42:51

Timing is everything, but this wasn't even a good story.

Aidan Dean-Jones

I gotta be honest: the last thing I was expecting when I went to youtube for the album was for her music to be phenomenal and it is. My doubt is not a reflection on her just a reflection on how hard it is to make great music

geode

Love you guys but no thanks on this one

I enjoyed this episode and I hope you don’t listen to the haters who seem to want to hear exclusively NPR style interviews with academics and reporters

I had lowkey kind of similar experience and also went to a performing arts hs lol

There has got to be a TrueAnon episode somewhere in the deep lore of Evergreen, from its hippy era founding to the decades of various ancom student movements, continued connection to west coast psychedelics/research chemical production, to its current slow and probably inevitable decline

Everyone mad is just not understanding true anon crew was needing to do a cathartic thing about how quirked up they are. It’s about an artist and an experience that is incorporated into an album… Al bum all bum bum dumb run chum fumble rumble dum bell it’s an album. You just don’t get it. That’s fine. Just don’t be mean.

Alexandria

Like if we went to high school with her

Alexandria

Respectfully how old did you think she was

Patrick B

This was great. Loved the break from everything going on. Cheers.

RJ

yo emily if you read this your music is fantastic

Secret Agent Manwich

Yes choking victim is cringe, but they were also my introduction to Parenti

HonestEd

Right? It feels like the hosts and guest had spoken for hours before the recording and forgot the audience doesn’t have the benefit of that background knowledge.

HonestEd

I thought the same thing while listening to it at work. I kept waiting for the story to go some where or make some kind of point. Instead she sort of went in circles and repeated the same vague story

Baby J

The striving of the archaic, nuclear self…

Alexandria

Where are the parents

Marcus

I fully support the bill. But if it doesn't get passed I'm going to start a business where I will stalk your stalker. Give 'em a little taste of their own medicine.

Zach

idk if this is already mentioned somewhere in the comments / but certain dissociative drugs can stimulate 'Clanging' , esp DXM / don't do it kids

L

slowly dawned on me listening to this ep that I also went on one of these NY2NO trips in 2009 from bard/bhsec … i remember sleeping in a room with like 30 people on cots and working on the Blair grocery farm. I had completely forgotten about it, this ep really stirred up memories from the black box vault.

chronye

boring story about a nothing by privileged person who makes an album.. i might still check out the music but this is an all ass ep

AbeLinkin

Because you don’t have rich parents?

Logan

No rich parents and not cool enough :((

Molly McCahan

I found this story really interesting and a good reminder the lotsssss of things can become cults

Austin Williams

Shout out to the crazy people, good and evil, that I lived on a weird farm with for a year.

Alexandria

But seriously my parents were sort of... In charge of me back then. Maybe I'm truly the only one who was "sheltered" I suppose but they would have been like the fuck you are doing any of this stupid shit. You're gonna get SAd etc. If you want to do this shit and you're 28 okay

Austin Williams

I know this ep is a cautionary tale but moving to the compound for a little while does give you some great stories and teaches you things about freaks you won't learn in freakonomics class. But it is not for the weak.

Alexandria

I'd rather listen to you talk about yourself for two hours tbh

DH

I think this is a NYC boho parent thing

Tranche Devereaux

Behold! We are in our golden age of awesome FEMALE TrueAnon guests! 👊 Toward the end, they urged us to check out Emily‘s music. I had very low hopes of being able to tolerate it… I do not like hipster music. YC’s music is not for me. But I really liked Emily’s album. Best tracks are Everybody Game and W.I.F.E. Thanks Emily and TA gang for the great ep

Tranche Devereaux

Wow what a story, Yuri! I think a lot of commenters just don’t relate to Emily’s story. I say, TA pls keep freestyling with episode topics. Not everything needs to be a harrowing international mystery that reaches all the way to the top

K

brace! fam 100% u could rap well in a spoken word punk style like slowthai (if u read this mate u should try karaoke-ing his track doorman or deal wiv it) or mike skinner in the streets (songs like fit but you know it)

AbeLinkin

Anyone can be cool with the right outfit and without the anxiety caused by the quiet hum of wondering how you’re going to continue paying rent through the term of your lease

Sara

I mean, delightful, but i’m looking forward to your take on ww3.

Andrew

Did I like this episode, or did I not? I’ll never tell ;)

Jake Torrey

I wonder if Kanye uses this clanging phenomenon to make his music.

burkina fatso

didn’t make it that far lol i ain’t finishin this

Degrassi Knoll

SIT ON A COUCH PUT ON A HAT, I AM INFESTED....HAPPENED JUST LIKE THAT

Ryan Bunnell

So wait, where is the drama? She fell in with some activists and did some activist projects with them for a few years until the project fizzled out, and ended up not getting along with them after a while? That’s the Big I was taken in and brainwashed by a cult and then escaped story?

Cheddar Goblin

i worked on a farm in Vineles, Cuba for a week in 2016. good times. lovely people

Jennifer Hammerhead

Yeah Shivvy, there was some really bananas stuff that happened to me and a small group of church friends. Keep in mind this is a drug free environment and the stuff that happened didn't happen in moments of trance like fervor. Most of it is creepy ghost stuff (I know I know true anon doesn't do ghosts) but that's what it was. Not ghost adventures shit either, where we're hyping each other. Literally, we're sitting in my friends living room talking and there's progressively louder ambient monster style noises coming from other (empty) rooms. That's the shortest possible version but maybe I'll write the longer tale and DM you if want? I'd be interested to hear a strangers good faith perspective.

Blingo Starr

Rich theater kid girl goes on field trip and gets more annoying. There you go I just saved you two hours.

enter_krzysz

The Faint is still around and going strong. I am a huge fan for almost 20y now

Blingo Starr

I mean it’s cool when the guest is capable of finishing a coherent thought…

Jackson

Yo the album fire doe

Grenadine Vetch

Appreciate this story & her sharing openly!

Jonah

podcast

Liam Farley

Idk I went to Cuba when I was 17 my parents did similar shit when they were 17. It's not that crazy.

Liam Farley

Wrong. It's a comedy podcast and their best episodes were the ones about the crazy dog San Francisco stuff and them talking about reality TV with their friends.

Cardboard

I know resentment is everywhere in society, but if you believe in changing it you will need to rise above this. Resentment makes any political organization you create weaker, not stronger

Fallen Species

Some of the worst music ive ever heard smh

zack

it’s sad what has happened to it. I didn’t know about the RCs per se although I know people who were/are involved with Stamets (maybe unrelated). I think that my time in Olympia was right at the real tail end of the fun there which probably ended with all the crazy protests in 2016. I love TESC and know so much about its history and would love to learn more about

zack

It indeed makes me very happy

royboy

This episode is soooo evocative of a certain time being a punk teen in NYC.

Lcfitz

Music was unlistenable sorry🥴

Abby

I was in this cult. It was fun but also weird <3

Lorend2001

the comments on this lead me to believe most trueanon listeners are losers bc I love this ep and it was fun and interesting!
