Novo Nordisk and Hims ended their partnership that allowed Hims to sell Wegovy direct to consumers, they never had a partnership for the compounded versions of semaglutide. Compounding, until earlier this year, was allowed by the FDA to address supply issues for Ozempic/Wegovy but many of the online compounders only got into the GLP-1 game after the FDA determined the supply issues have overall been resolved. Currently Hims and other compounders are in a legal gray area about whether or not their "personalized" (they add a vitamin you have a deficiency for) compounded version of semaglutide is violating Novo Nordisk's patents.

Compound drugs are when you mix different drugs together into one pill or capsule. So they were doing like tadafinil and ozembic mixed together in one tablet. They're aren't many common applications for that. Also, like you guys mention, a private company trying to head off potential legal and pr consequences. That’s not what compounded means in re: pharmaceuticals. Compounded means a third party company is making their own version of an existing drug and using scouts honor to say it’s the same drug as WHATEVER. They are supposed to have the same exact active ingredients but may or may not work/are not FDA approved.

I think that what youre describing and what I am are not mutually exclusive. I didnt know about the shortage of something thats used in ozembic, but here's something that sums it up: "Compounded drugs are medications created by combining, mixing, or altering ingredients to meet a specific patient's needs, often when a commercially available drug is not suitable. These are not FDA-approved, meaning the FDA doesn't verify their safety, effectiveness, or quality before they are marketed. Compounding pharmacies prepare these medications, which can be beneficial when a patient has allergies, needs a specific dosage or form, or when a drug is on FDA's drug shortage list." So, I found an example where theres like a neuropathy cream that pharmacists can make (idk science), they make it out of like another prescription drug and something else. So its these 3rd parties, whether its Him's and their pharmacists, or Hal the Pharmacist down the street, thats a third party altering a prescription drug, a controlled substance, after market, and things could be compounded to an uncontrollable degree across an entire country, and so the FDA says, hey we cant control, were not approving it. I think more local pharmacies used to do this kind of thing when people had more autonomy. Now you have to order compounded things online (even from like CVS), because they dont want to handle it on a personal store by store basis. But the big takeaway is, its a compounded drug if its being modified after leaving the original manufacturer. Wha-eva that may mean.
