To answer the inquiry on the Jesuits: there's a long association with Jesuits & "conspiracies" related to European politics. There's a belief (not going to opine on whether it's true or not) that the Jesuits were essentially the intelligence-gathering arm of the Vatican, since it was unreasonably close with ruling families throughout Europe and was (possibly) able to whisper suggestions to kings in regards to foreign policy, especially between papist-run states. This is an explanation as to why the Jesuits were run out of many European countries in the 18th century. The Rosicrucians were allegedly supposed to be the protestant version of the Jesuits in order to facilitate protestant interests, though it probably started out as a joke that turned into an actual conspiracy theory (compare to QAnon). Frances Yates has a wonderful book on this, "The Rosicrucian Enlightenment," that is worth reading for anyone interested.

You are too young to remember the international fascination in the early 1980s with the book The Holy Blood and the Holy Grail, which may be the ur-text of those conspiracy theories that seem to be spun off from Dan Brown novels. The book built on two elements of the French national ledgendarium, the Merovingians and the Cathars (and threw in the Masons, Rosicrucians and the Protocols of the Elder of Zion for good measure). It was a concoction of three British-based journalists who wrote the book, building on their own shared interests in things like the Knights Templar and esoterica. Some of it was based on some nonsense a French rightist placed in the Bibliothèque Nationale in its role as a copyright repository. I was under the impression that at least one of the authors had owned up to this being a hoax, but I haven't actually found evidence for this. I did for a time work with someone who moved in the same circles (and was a member of the now-forgotten Temperance Seven band, a name itself a Masonic allusion) and he implied that they were well aware of... let's say the hypothetical nature of some of their assertions. I'm astonished at how elements of their entertaining story keep being rewoven into new forms, yet the original, completely debunked, source seems to have vanished down the memory hole.
