Hi chat

Zak K

The patreon notification sounds like a choir of angels on a Monday morning

original gay pussy eatah

Brace you were stealing beers and pestering raccoons in my backyard in my dream last night, and peddling Kasparov type alternate history

DRS

Sick Liz sat this one out?

huuuuuuuuuuu

Wish this was going to be a Toronto episode

Rob Wells

Glad you could have Don on, Fourth Reich Archaeology is such a great podcast.

Ligma

TrueAnon: Get Rid of Slimy GirlS edition

eza

it’s crazy how the peanuts teacher sounds exactly like liz. i noticed no difference

John Waaben

Oh great, another episode where I have to pause and rewind after a frantic google search over the history of Hungarian and Romanian fascism! I hate learning!

❣️

love this crossover trillbillys next plz

Isaac

I thought this was a notification for FRA when I saw the notification! So excited about this crossover 🤘 Dudes Rock 🤘

Doom Hermit

Real talk, I could listen to Liz read a phone book. Her voice is my jam.

Mountain Dew Or Crab Juice

"What if he kicks my little fingies?" Is the most relatable sports thought Brace has ever had on the show.

T Sur

I could forgive an episode with males. Men exist and I've made my peace. Another episode about entirely useless people? Unforgivable.

Rufus Blumpfoch

So glad you finally got trusted Bellingcat journalist Robert Evans on the pod

Sam

I want to hear Brace talk more about Sylvia Plath.

Jackson Smith

Worst true anon guest of all time. Dude speaks like he’s trying to put you to sleep, unbelievably verbose, unable to listen to this guy even when he’s talking about interesting stuff. Truly a terrible podcaster

KirbyFan420

Finally a podcast just for the guys!!

Doc Adna

YC droppin truth so convincingly... "that's sexier to me"

Eugene Debs

Moss's work on VOC - why VOC have a St Louis office?? - muy importante

Joelio

I’m asking for Brace to do an audiobook of Blood Meridian, I will pay 56$

Justine Riekena

Yung Chomsky has one of my favourite voices of all time. Really appreciate him having a moment in the sun.

ploob

Time to take your shirt off, eat a giant bowl of cereal with a ladle, and stick one hand down your pants bois!

Ben

One can get into elite small liberal art schools playing football

Michael S. Judge

I just feel so lucky to have worked work Liz v1 and 1.5, before the racism, the false imprisonment, all the landlord stuff in the horn of Africa, and what some people are calling "Dolezal ISIS"

otis

Liz is perf. Never change. (Unless you want to.)

JNG

I always thought Ford pardoned Nixon bc (at some level) he knew Watergate was a stitch-up, and whatever Nixon's role in covering it up he didn't order it. If you look at the seemingly purposeful sloppiness of Watergate and then the Townhouse affair before that, someone clearly wasn't getting from Nixon what they got from Reagan and wanted him out of there. Plus the Pentagon was pissed about deténte. So while the public is over here making a big deal about it Ford's like "it's over, shut up already. Now here's George H.W. Bush for CIA Director. He's a total outsider I promise." He knew more than he let on at all times, I think.

Mark Owen

Shout out Guy, getting drunk and expelling people. Agree that Comments... has good analysis of the 70s-80s that doesn't get much love these days.

Return of The Mac 2nite

Important useful episode. The only image otherwise I had of Gerald Ford is that very humanizing image of him in the Simpsons in his quirky drawl: “Hiya Homer. Do you like beer? And Nachos?”

Michael S. Judge

Ho Chi Minh at Versailles is a whole could've-been world of its own – he basically party-crashed it with a group of young intellectuals who were trying to get recognition of Vietnamese statehood put in the eventual Treaty, and Ho, who had lived in France for 5 or 6 years at that point, was reportedly extremely impressive, charismatic, intense-but-approachable, to the extent that at least some of the people at Versailles think he would've won over Woodrow Wilson and Georges Clemenceau on Vietnam IF he hadn't been proposing a socialist Vietnam. Ho wouldn't budge on the conviction that a Vietnamese state should, would, and had to be socialist, so there was no deal. And personally, I feel like I can imagine Ho Chi Minh in 1950 or 1960 or 1970 much better after learning learning a bit about his walk-on at Versailles. It was all the same thing happening, over and over, in those famous literary-style widening gyres, much as he would've gussed from the beginning, and as the extraordinarily rare sort of man who had a historically superb chance to sell high on his beliefs and refused, everything since that refusal must've felt like a sort of continuum in which the same thing happens more and more literally until there are truly just 2 choices

Jose Duszar

Confused by this comment

Michael S. Judge

(tho I would imagine that young Parisian Ho Chi Minh had also made some contacts among your official Versailles delegate types)

Swimaroo

70th comment baybee - I got a Gerald Ford flashcard as a mystery vending machine prize. It has a dark and sinister aura, therefore I keep him imprisoned as a bookmark.

Nothingburger Burgerreich

I’m a daily nothing ever happens guy but much like our friends from the East, a student of Centuries

duckenheimer

basketball speculation with Liz absent feels like provoking a race science episode for the next time Brace is in an undisclosed location

Nothingburger Burgerreich

You can Google any guy between 1912 and 2025 and it’s the same rats nest at bottom

Cal

I love when this guy says “oh yeah”

Nothingburger Burgerreich

Odd thing to say about a male only episode. But fr tho where are the women? It’s only dudes that do this stuff

Dustin Johnson

At quiet a high rate actually. Look at the Rosters of Bowdoin, Tufts and Wesleyan historically, it's a who's who government/big business goons.

RyGuy

I’ve long thought of the Ford years as a portal to the contemporary world. “The presidency is separated from the person occupying the office” is a great way to put it.

Zzz

Sucks without Liz

Everything Still Applies

Ford Models, originally the Ford Modeling Agency, is an American international modeling agency based in New York City. It was established in 1946 by Eileen Ford and her husband Gerard W. Ford.[2][3]

GRAND RAPIDS MENTIONED!!!! 🔥🔥🔥🗣️🗣️🗣️

Fourth reich archaeology is awesome, fantastic guest

Tea for the Tillerman

The guest’s voice has the same timbre as Ron Howard in arrested development

Brent

The little musical transition at 1:43:18 🧑‍🍳💋 I see you Y.C.

Colin English

I have a friend who played hockey at Dartmouth and football at Harvard and all they had to do was get the right SAT and ACT scores their GPAs were kind of shit

Jonathan Katz

Went to an ivy and my senior year Suitemates were football players (random on my part, I didn't choose that). They would smoke cigars on the fire escape and make a lot of bacon in the microwave. I was the only person in the suite who cleaned the bathroom. Seemed like they were having a good time. I would help the quarterback with his calc 2 homework.

Russell Elmore

I didn't realize I still had the capacity to get so angry about these things. Great guest, great episode.

EA Burdett

Would love to hear y'all wax on the Victoria Peak Treasure that Nixon was interested in and Ford's lawyer ended up getting involved with.

Russell Elmore

On the erosion of the democratic institutions: "if the rule you followed brought you to this, of what use was the rule?"

Devin

They mention revisionist Watergate theories. Just wanna put out there that I have a limited-series podcast about this called Limited Hangout. New eps out periodically.

Héctor

it's 2025 - all-male episode is actually unforgivable. do better. this is literally what we have AI for.

cmanenarwhale

to answer ur question brace, ivy leagues cant give out athletic scholarships, they can give “need based”. so they use a loophole, to let ppl get athletic scholarships. so yes you could leverage ur athletic skill to get into a good academic school.

buttface

The boys did their best without Liz

Shiv

I’d submit Trump touching the Orb is Lynchian (Dune, specifically)

nathan

don’t have to take my dose of trt this week (hypogonadism) bc i can pump all this unbridled masculine energy straight into my loins (via my ears)

As a reluctant Hoosier hearing brace use the French pronunciation of Notre Dame for the catholic university was jarring

Love y'all. Rob Ford mention. Great political instincts, but flesh and blood like the rest of us, unfortunately. I've been relistening to the Ghislaine Maxwell Trial since the transcript of the DOJ interview came out with her came out. I'm avoiding all news of the details of what was said until the True Anon-alysis comes out.

gibbypatrol

Liz 3.0 (in Liz robot voice)

Mark Owen

Pike Committee gets glossed as it so often does. iirc reading a book on all three of those Church went for the "rogue agency" line, but Pike went for "these people do what the President wants them to do with near-zero oversight," which wasn't as popular a line to sell the public.

GOOBER

I miss liz

Alex

Watergate series with Ben Howard when?

Reece Coren

this was such a great one. please have Don back

eduard karpoev

This was a great episode. Very classico content wise

Glossed over the Black Eagle Trust stuff, would love to learn more

You have a sick mind

Miss Liz, but great guest!

Nixon was so goated, for real. I love him.

Putting a pin in this episode Will return to it later

Tranche Devereaux

This episode further solidifies that time-honored principle: Men Be Talking.

Chris Ryan

Brace, I am class of 2000 from prep school (in Philadelphia, which is somewhat underrated in terms of the prevalence of its bourgeois networks) and people did indeed social climb via football to get into the Ivy League, but the real secret was to be on the rowing team. If you were dumber than a bag of hammers but your dad had some money, you could easily get into an Ivy League school if you were willing to do that completely brainless sport for 4 years. It was not very difficult to get a 3.0 grade point average, even back then when we had Latin class and such. If you can barely read, all you gotta do is cheat. Works every time. This was not me, btw, I did try to be a part of that culture because I wanted to fuck skinny blonde girls at the time, but even when I was in world class shape and rocking a crew cut, at heart I was still always an autistic suicidal nerd who couldn’t hang. Thank fucking Zeus.

Tranche Devereaux

How far did you make it? I started at my default 1.25x speed. Got halfway thru and cranked it to 1.5 in the spirit of “get this over with.” 2/3 thru and I went to 1.75. Hearing anyone talk that fast makes me panic. Combine it the the unrelatable obscure content spoken by self-satisfied males…. For the final 1/5 of the show I had it cranked all the way to 2x speed. It felt like the control room Chernobyl. where the crooked Party officials made them push the reactor to its very limits

drewb

The forgotten MBV release

#1 Caleb Foster Fan

Brace pronouncing “Notre Dame” in the Victor Hugo fashion 😂😂

Brian Ward

Guessing the Liz cough chat at the end of the last pod was foreshadowing for this absence

Chas Padunski

Idk if Brace also recently reread the Bell Jar or what, but he’s spot on. Great stuff about how eerie modeling is in that book.

Mungo Franczak

Don’t lie Brace and YC, we know Liz is in Libya establishing the Second Great Socialist People's Libyan Arab Jamahiriya

Budget Hireling

Liz is out: Oh my god, oh dear, I hope my queen has her chicky noodle soup Brace is out: You donkey

Antipaganda

I must say, even though Liz's absence screamed constantly throughout the pod, like a hole in the fabric between us and maddening chaos, Brace's attempt to stop pretending to be dumb really helped.

Antipaganda

Let me be clear. My water.... just broke. My pussy be uh, gushin.

Patrick Sullivan

A kid at my high school (Class of ‘99) who was a good student and good (but clearly not NFL material) football player went to Princeton on an athletic scholarship, so this is definitely a path for a handful of people. No regarded football prospect would ever commit to an Ivy, but scouting football players is notoriously imprecise and the NFL has such high player turnover that they end up accidentally producing NFL players every now and again.

Mungo Franczak

Don’s Nixon is so good I’m extremely jealous

David Bond

All this simple Michigan talk scorns me, but I know it's true. We are simple folks.

Valentino

Rob Ford now has enough to eat at the big ol'home in the sky! (Hell) Dougie will hopefully join him once he swallows enough bees

Dredre

Didn’t really talk about anything…

Liam Farley

I agree with the Family of Secrets take that the pardon prevented any real investigation into Watergate that might've implicated other people or cleared Nixon from happening. Ford was incentivized to shut the can of worms and Nixon couldn't complain that much Abt being pardoned.

Daniel Valentine

Does young chomsky wear a shirt while podcasting??

CJ

Liz would have been bang into the football and sports chat in this one surely 🥲 she is missed 🙏

Zachary

Seed Money. Pause

Callum

Rob is dead and unfortunately brother Doug is more in charge than Rob ever was. He’s Premier of Ontario, while Mayor of Toronto is Olivia Chow, the former First Lady of Canadian third-way soc-dems

Joey

Now this reporter is my type a guy

Joey

so glad liz wasn't there; not sure if we'd get these nixons impressions with a lady present

Joey

this guy is definitely one of the fellas

Joey

my man said "oh YeAH"

kallampero

Is it inaccurate to state that the term 'The Fourth Reich' was coined on and by death corner?

Michael S. Judge

I don't exactly know – certainly people have used the phrase "The Fourth Reich" to mean all kinds of other shit, probably since the Third one; in this specific sense of "Fourth Reich," I arrived at that phrase & idea on my own, but I can't swear that nobody else ever thought the same thing

Abby P

everything coming up gerry👍

DRS

I think we could have really used Liz during that brief discussion about college football scholarships

leah stern

Solid episode and I would enjoy more history lessons please. You guys mostly covered this but to add re. Betty ford pill addiction- she originally went to a doctor for what was deemed a pinched nerve after she was alone watching the kids at home and was struggling to close a sticky window and it fell on her neck/shoulder. She was then hospitalized and prescribed a shit ton of everything you could imagine. (https://www.nytimes.com/1975/05/25/archives/bettyford-in-tiptop-shape-after-grueling-fourday-trip.html ) So it truly is a prescription to addiction pipeline as you say. There’s actually a semi solid limited series on showtime called “the First Lady” that I *think* does Betty ford justice AND has an incredible take on Barack Obama as basically your average Jason sudeikis character (as in, the actor playing him just does a Jason sudeikis impression as far as I can tell and it’s hilarious ). Highly recommend. I didn’t know how incredible Betty ford was until I saw it years ago and then read a lot about her . American hero if there ever was one 🫡

TrueAnonPod

That is on your end (i mean this respectfully)

HM

Ivy League schools don’t give out scholarships but do recruit athletes and maybe eases their admission process. But yes def some guys on the football team that back door their way into Ivies

maria 🌽

50:00 lol if y’ain’t dutch y’ain’t much (my family could NOT pass for dutch and therefore we had to move away from pella, ia bc our neighbors kept calling the police citing inane city ordinances on us) (we are primarily british and german as per 23&me)

HP

Lol at the Chomsky sigh just shy of eight minutes

Nick

He seems a little weird but the impressions were great :)

DarylBarenziah

There’s way too little X chromosomes in this episode. The moment you realize… she’s half the show ⚒️

Markus Puskar

This guy just communicated some incredibly complex ideas in such a nice digestible way

YIMBY 4 HEAVEN

ooooooo baby this guest was COOKING as the ep went on, damn. The impressions were choice 🥫🍑

CJ

Guest has a chill informative vibe, I like this one 🙌 Watergate-specific episode would be good too probably!

Clean Shirt Piggie

Hey 4th Reich guy can be found where else but on the nazi guy’s everything app

Luis

The boys are back in town

Luis

Hope not

Zach

Jonestown Ep needed.

Brother Love

Let me start by saying great episode With that said I miss Liz... im sorry how did he get away with saying the name "Dicky Bissell," under normal circumstances that would have been a minimum 2 minute diversion

Hunbun

I never comment but .. where Liz 😢

Toshio42

Moar boys w/reverb saying "buh-bye."

Horse

Realizing my understanding of Ford like many things is just a smattering of Simpsons references

bob

My brother goes to an Ivy for med school, at their white coat ceremony it was him and one kid from Dearborn who were from working class backgrounds. Everyone else was a blue blood who put something like “during COVID I learned how to clean dishes and use a laundry machine for the first time”

bob

absolutely classico subject

Hardcore Virgin

Dry mouth clicking is very intense with guest. Such an aggravating noise. If you have speed induced autism I suggest taking off headphones. More manageable over a shitty speaker. Great episode otherwise. I feel like Liz would’ve noticed and offered the gentleman a glass of water. Edit to add. I’m from gr and some friends and I took mushrooms and waited in line to see his body and this was around the time saddam was killed (the video of his hanging leaked?) and my friend was blathering how “his neck snapped like a dry desert twig”. I don’t remember making it in to see the body tho. The line was massive. It was a huge event. And there’s the ford museum and a lot of Gerry ford throughout the downtown area. The whole thing is like his tomb and library in one. If I recall the whole bush admin was at a church on hall st I think. I can’t remember. Any other Grand Rapids ppl say what’s up! Edit to add in addition to the other addition… guest description of GR is on point. Very Dutch very Calvinist. Hope college. Calvin college. The devos family comes from GR. A truly evil little city. And man. Do the Elect the chosen really “lord” it over you there. Mean spirited. In the way that all “decent” places are. Also. Bush came back to GR to deliver some speech in the lead up to the surge. Interesting that he came back to Grand Rapids to give it.

TeflonSlam

Topic for a future pod should be Order of the 9 Angles. Apparently a cult that entices people into doing acts of violence and multiple mass shootings, specifically the one in minneapolis that happened today is linked to it.

nightshade

Top tier classico episode. Desperately want a multipart series on the Fords with Don as the guest

Zac

This guest's particular area of parapolitics is not really up my alley (feels like the subjects of the CIA and the Cold War have been mined for all their worth for about a decade now) but the Nixon and Reagan impressions were shockingly good, and I did learn a lot about Gerald Ford that I didn't know

Taylor Stevenson

Modafinil sucks. Very minor drug impact. Does not increase heart rate or good feelings like other stimulants. very expensive. No generic version. Still under patent period. Only used for lame reasons like preventing pilots and truck drivers from slumping over from exhaustion :|

Luis

Mine is form that 70s show

landon

i’m gerald ford and you’re not

Will Thornton

Incredible presidential impressions in this

Claire Simon

Squeaky Fromme went to my high school

Mosie

Brace thats not how you pronounce the college in Indiana 😭😭

Mosie

Same im shaking

Wagner Koop

Snapping and pointing like Leo as I listen in Grand Rapids, MI

J Fitz

For what he was talking about, he’s an incredibly dull and uncharismatic guest… and then those impressions come out of nowhere

Drew

Any book recommendations people have for the post WW2 integration of Nazis into the CIA etc?

Jesusgod

Bumping this lol

JCA

Devil's Chessboard by David Talbot focuses on Allen Dulles - not exclusively on WW2 integration of Nazis, but that certainly plays a role.

John S

Re: Leo Ryan, how has there never been a People's Temple/Jonestown TrueAnon ep???

Ethical_tweaker

Fr though, you can tell he's been practicing them.

Jake Moore

Lots of early Programmed to Chill eps in that vein

Emina

I feel like rogue agents by David teacher and unholy Alliance by Paul Williams both about gladio, are pretty good and kinda cover this
