About the "peppercorn" that was ol' andy the pedo's former rent: It's like rent being a dollar but still legal/enforcable. its a weird phrase that still exists in US law that we inherited. A contract needs both parties to come to an agreement to give something to the other--you build me a shed, i give you 500 bucks. Courts don't care whether you're getting a good deal or not: the thing promised by one side could be "a peppercorn" and still make the agreement be legally enforcable. On the topic of cloned dogs: the president of Argentina, Javier Milei, cloned his mastiff ‘Conan’ FOUR TIMES, and named them all after his favorite economists. What a sicko, as if we all needed more reasons to revile him. My cat suddenly and unexpectedly passed away one month ago, I raised him since he was a little baby kitten and I miss him more than I can even bear sometimes. That being said, I can’t think of anything more sacrilegious and insulting to his memory and his life than to play god and clone him. It’s just so creepy. Death is a part of life and we are all destined for it. I’m going to have to agree with Brace, I find it hard to believe that there isn’t at least some attempt to do this for the ultra rich “humans”. The soul, if you believe such a thing exists (I personally do), is another matter entirely. In “cloning” you are not truly cloning, rather creating a meat sack that shares the dna makeup.

I'm reading Debt by David Graeber and he writes about the origins of money. Cash (like $ or £) was not widespread until central banking so oftentimes when there was a shortage of cash, common folk would pay taxes or rent with whatever items they had on hand and just kept ledgers of transactions.
