Always felt like how Klein talked about Katrina in Shock Doctrine was sort of proto End Time Fascism. The response from the government in New Orleans wasn't how can we help these people but how can we maximize profit off of this disaster. Im from NJ and I witnessed it first hand. Hurricane Sandy wiped communities off the map and what replaces them now are these ugly luxury condos that are being used as rich peoples summer homes. The people who's homes were destroyed have moved somewhere else. It becomes clear that the world being built around you isnt for you to live in if you cant afford those condos.

It’s a nice platitude, no AI in education but that road has been sailed down through too far. Disentangling it at this point will be fruitless and probably cause more distress on this collapsed system. I foresee a future where liberals spend the next 2 decades papering over this problem and ultimately the reality will become either a public system only reliant on underpaid/under-qualified staff and AI tools or it will be religious oriented/tied education. I think the Chinese route of integration and heavy controls is our most efficacious path to mirror, but ultimately we have a failed system already and no political body has any will to address it. They rather another Billionaires Initiative come around so they can just scapegoat something anything. Not to say that anything Gates did was ultimately beneficial, just highlighting this culture of laziness that permeates the administrative class the 1% has empowered for decades.

Again: if folks agree with this analysis, they should join/become active in DSA. DSA can be intensely frustrating - but real political work is frustrating. It takes a long time and it's kinda boring sometimes and it involves working with people who are annoying or wrong-headed. But it's the only way to get anything done. And from personal experience, you can achieve a leadership role pretty quick if you just show up to meetings consistently, act decently towards others, and put in baseline effort.

The story Astra Taylor tells of the flight where the young tech startup guy is fascinated by her reading a book reminded me of the deposition of one of the doge boys. When asked what qualifications he had that would allow him to make decisions about government funding he admitted he had no experience but he could read books. The attorney asks him, “What books?” He pauses and finally says “there were no books.” Many of the people in this traitorous movement including their dear leaders suffer from Platonic double ignorance which can be described as - “You do not know the truth, yet you suffer from an illusion of expertise and falsely believe you understand everything. Plato views this as the root of serious moral and cognitive errors.” Stupidity can in fact be more dangerous than evil.

I'm in England at the moment and this summer it was like Autumn in July/August with all the trees going brown from it not raining for literally months, grass was dead everywhere, it was like a desert basically and that's not meant to be a thing in England, it's a rainy place and Autumn in like October.
