Japan’s daily count of new cases went from 1,400 at the end of June to 5,700 a month later. The olympics can’t be blamed on this increase, and I suspect they’re trying to treat each event like a bottle episode. But still, an Ipsos poll published just LAST week showed 78% of the Japanese population opposed the games going ahead as scheduled. A little over 27% of their population is vaccinated. While the games themselves will likely have no dramatic effect on case increases, I have to wonder if their government would have been better off listening to the opinion of their constituents and concentrating resources on vaccination uptake and driving down case increases. I mean, it’s not like they can claim the Japanese people will benefit bc of Olympic tourism, lol.

NOlympics, you guys need to get involved in Salt Lake City as well. There’s a huge push from the upper crust to host the Winter Games here AGAIN, and we can’t afford it. Gentrification and rising rent/housing costs are already killing our communities.
