The fact that the cover image of this episode was a photo of an econ finance guy and not one of those inflation fetish deviantart commissions is a huge miss

Jack

political economy!! thank goodness for Alexandra Skaggs !!!!!!!!

Svid

Damn, these ones are so hard for me to follow. But I will listen so I can latch on to one thing that's said that I don't understand and can parrot it back to people in my life like a real brain genius

I snort-laughed picturing someone pulling a hamburger out of their wallet. Which just like the Fed I don’t like doing more than four or five times a year. But seriously this episode was super helpful.

I’d love to hear a history/critique of financialization in general, it’s necessity if any, historic examples, etc. Or if anyone has book recommendations. That is, if my query makes any sense - it’s hard to put into words something that you know little of, lol. Also, it’s 12:07 AM, little makes sense right now.

James Murray

honestly for your YouTube channel you guys should have someone animate Liz's financial explanations because, at least for me, it's really hard to process everything she's explaining just through audio. A visual would go a long way

Nikki

Not working for me

Tom

I would love it if Liz covered more econ stuff!

brock carpenter

Can you post a link to that dallas fed letter about the need for a recession to make people appreciate their shitty jobs?

Joe Welch

Wasn't the Greenback the union money?

Dan

Was concerned to hear you say there’s consensus that the pandemic is pretty much over. The pandemic won’t be over until we end vaccine apartheid and the patent restrictions. New variants will continue to emerge from countries will low vaccination rates. Until we do that there is still the possibility of more deadly variants which the current vaccines aren’t effective against.

Dan

Read more about vaccine apartheid. Do an episode on it. Big pharma has a strong incentive to hold on to their parents and extend the pandemic as long as possible, using boosters to boost profits. This is creating an even higher risk scenario because we are allowing the virus to continue to mutate.

They problem here is that the market demands workers that are basically half a step above slaves to function properly, but the market itself is suggesting that corporations need to pay more to retain workers. Raising the interest rate would be a good way to punish workers, but so many zombie companies are also entirely dependent on cheap money to even exist. They actually cant raise interest rates without destroying like half the American economy lol.

Alex is awesome! She’s the best recurring guest!! Please more!

This podcast is my favorite source of legitimate financial advice!

Jack Lansman

Liz, the only reason there's inflation is the infallible dogma that 500% markups and absurd profit margins must be maintained. Simply really

Andrew M

whoa brace pronounced dogecoin right

Thomas Jennings

oof. can you please have someone on who can talk about bitcoin (not "crypto") intelligently? sort of surprised you have this normie on to talk about something that is so important - you can get this opinion from any msm rag. other than that, i love you both.

Amanda Grabowski

Scaggs is my favorite guest because Brace shuts up and it’s just her and Liz

Rusty Johnson

Does the word "confetti" come from "Confederate money"

I feel like I need a transcript of this episode so I can read it slowly and investigate these terms to make sure I actually understand it. Because all the economics I was taught in school was "Well, capitalism may not be the best system, but our other two options are Fascism or Communism, and Fascism does genocides, while Communism actually kills more people if you think about it." The implication being deaths under capitalism are to do with personal moral failing. I mean, I still will investigate it for sure, though.
