Check out 'Crypto of the Necrodancer' its a music genre game that has similar sounding vibes

Stop the Spread

New series on Netflix just dropped. The Program.

El Cat

I'm enjoying it a lot. It's a pretty unrushed, deep dive on how Synanon became what it is

gav

Lexington reference 🔥

The_Architecht

Why do parents ever agree to things like this? Incomprehensible.

Yoni Maltsman

The guy in the picture looks like he could be brace's uncle

Connor Bridwell

My homie went to a facility in utah and reading his journal ( he showed it to us) was HEARTBREAKING. Sending love to Brace

се

had the confrontation circle... they called it "accountability"

Jennifer

Yea, been there and done that.

Josh

The music is killing me, I’ve heard it so many times before, but I can’t figure out where! I just spent 30 minutes looking for it, and now my leading theory is just that it’s something I wrote myself. Anyone recognize it from anything else? C F G A♭ G F C D♭

Josh

Literally dying right now, I just realized it’s a slowed down version of the normal TrueAnon theme. Fuck I’m embarrassed

adam22

Is that chuck dederick in the photo? He looks kinda like an old brace belden lol

Chrissy Cosgrove

I went to Monarch too. I am so fucking excited to listen to this series.

KG

I was sent to Second Nature and one of the CEDU schools in Idaho for two years when I was 14. I honestly forgot how fucked up it was. My situation was so fucking stupid, I was definitely one of the luckier kids as far as my background goes. It took me awhile to be able to admit I was abused and how fucked up everything was. Fuck those people.

Duncan McGhee

Already finished it wheres the next one

joseph

i'm a hope fiend for the potential quality of this content

Scout

hwowee zowee m so excited

Maura Willey

whenever I see Ben Howard in the credits I am always confused why a British musician would associate with this podcast

Jawn Feddermang

Christman as Dederich! We love it don’t we folx

Dino Zaccagna

You can tell that they worked really hard on this, and it is greatly appreciated. Looking forward to the rest of the series!!

Tom

This is fantastic! Really liking the music too.

towerofmadel

So excited for the rest of this. Thank you for taking us along on this deeply personal journey :’)

features creatures

Holy shit guys. You outdid yourselves. Actual tears at that end part. Much love. I can’t believe things like this are allowed to exist and the parallels in brace’s later life are palpable.

Nick M

Well that was certainly worth the hype/wait, excellent work as always, can’t wait for the next episode

Kristen

Buh bye :’(

Anna

Amazing!!!!!

John

Madness. As a non yank there seems to b so much wrong with the us of a. I feel bad for poor brace. Whats the relationship with the parents like after that ?

dshamz_

I need that dope ass sax track

Ricardo

The score is fantastic

HEATHER

powerful stuff, can’t wait for more

John Harwood

Wow, this is amazing. For a “survivor” of some pretty abusive “therapies” like myself, hearing Brace speak about his experiences is really powerful stuff. Thanks to the whole crew for making this.

Lord Drewcifer

This that good good Columbian no re-rock podcast shit. We need to rebuild the whole fucking addiction treatment infrastructure in America

Hank

What a start to the series. The ending gave me chills. The music production is off the charts! My body is ready for more.

Emma

I do miss the casual less-scripted liz-brace banter we normally get but I understand why this material requires/deserves a little more planning and structure. TA episodes on the troubled teen industry and addiction/treatment industry are always my favourite, it's rare to have someone make it out the other side of that stuff and have the ability + platform to talk about it the way Brace does (Couldn't happen without Liz and YC obviously)...Fenty Fainties+ Brat Camp are must-listens for anyone looking for more. Really looking forward to the rest of the series!

itsjenjen

thanks so much brace for being vulnerable and sharing your story. this is going to help so many people by exposing these fuckers and and letting others know they're not alone in their trauma. can't wait for part 2.

Kirk

Damn chuck. ODAAT man.

Brian Long

Well worth the wait. Can’t wait for the next episode. Nice job.

Jon Spiegler

Everything that fucked my own life Up is touched on in this episode

Evan

The name Dr Van Dyke mean anything to anyone?

Sergio

👍👍

Ed Carney

I wasn't sure what to think of this when announced, but I think it turned out great. Looking forward to the rest of the episodes.

Will Joyce Jr

Well fuck, I thought I was just a parasocial Paul when I felt a connection to Brace. I guess we went through the same youth programming.

buttface

Yung Chomsky's intro songs keep getting better and better. Really fantastic sounds this week. 👌

original gay pussy eatah

This is interesting and I will listen to it but it is like hilariously overproduced

Megan

What an amazing episode. Not to be parasocial, but I hope this is a somewhat cathartic process for Brace.

Yup

here for the cameos.

Cameron

You don’t deserve to pay for this content!

Mike Malloy

I’ve always described LaGuardia as the world’s largest bus station, knew exactly where they were when Liz said that. Great episode, looking forward to the rest.

kenton

"AA was started in 1935 by..." hell yeah brother, you read your forewords

Will Joyce Jr

Not to request spoilers also, but will Paris Hilton and her activism in Utah be covered?

Degrassi Knoll

Recording 5 episode special: 10 days Y.C. new theme song: 6 weeks Can't rush perfection folks.

A Kalman

Want this soundtrack

Ant koz

Really great stuff. At 18 I was sent to narconon a non 12 step rehab based on the works or L Ron Hubbard that was definitely traumatic (and sort of fun?) upon my return I attended insight (enthusiastic sobriety for teens!) a program created by bob Meehan that today is known to be a cult with a history of covering up rapes. Everyone from insight is dead as most the kids came in from being caught smoking weed with scared parents and were introduced to hard drug users and told they were just like each other… the Hubbard one, those memories are so fucking insane I can hardly believe they’re real. Young chompsk the sounds on this are special and undoubtedly add to this as a piece of art, and brace I relate with this as much as anything I’ve ever heard and Liz your wonderfully inquisitive in this role… can’t wait for more

Ant koz

Totally agree How dare someone try and make something good and pay attention to detail

repairmanman

can't wait for the rest of this. absolutely killing it with the score YC!!

Randy Hendrickson

Gonna get myself kicked out, but I think the music goes too far. It's the same feeling I get with the newest season of Blowback. Great content but dial it back a few.

Emma

Listen to Brat Camp and Fenty Fainties for more on Brace's story! Both great eps

Emma

I mean when a podcast starts gaining a following and making consistent money the first thing I want them to do is up production quality and put the time and effort in they couldn't before...which is what TA have done!!

Yup

Randy's wrong. Turn it up to 11

Alex Gullen

Whoa, this was some next level podcasting!!

Junior Carmichael

Can I buy YC's music for this mini series somewhere? Loved this episode.

Adam H.

Is all of this music original? YC we need a soundtrack!

Jean-Marc Pruit

incredibly brave of Brace to share his story at this level of detail. That took so much courage.

Alberticus

Really enjoyed this one, i like the scripted talk with the music.

TrueAnonPod

Sorry to patreon user HUNTER whose message I accidentally deleted but it was nice thank you

S

I’ve never been a Patreon reply guy before but I wanted to say that this was really powerful. Brave of Brace to be vulnerable and share his experience, really great episode.

Leah Churner

Thank you guys. I went to a very similar “emotional growth” boarding school, Rocky Mountain Academy in Idaho, from 1998-2000. The school was shut down for child abuse allegations a few years later. When Brace stared describing the group therapy sessions, I had a visceral memory of that dread. Over the years I have researched Synanon and the Human Potential Movement to try to make sense of what happened, but I have never had the courage to write or make art about it. Great work, thank you again, and I can’t wait for the next installment!

Tyler Wilson

I'm barely through the intro and I got a lump in my throat. I know there's alot of fun times on the pod but I gotta say mad respect to your strength and growth king. 👑

Justin Hubbard

Is the theme to this series based on My Band by D12 or am I just nuts

Bob Busby

“why my entertainment no sound worse 😡” a mf named “Jude”

original gay pussy eatah

When the parasocial supply is threatened. There’s just so much goddamn dusty ass baroque ass synthesizer music in this

TrueAnonPod

It is based on the theme from the TrueAnon podcast

TrueAnonPod

My school was started by the first person to graduate from RMA and run in part by Daniel Earles son. More on that later in the series

Hannah Barton

The intro quite literally stopped me in my tracks.

Jackson Lahey

This is great. No matter what direction you guys take this pod nobody can say you’re not committed to quality and earnestness. Also love the airport ambiance at the end

(Noah J)

the podcasters become the theater kids at heart lol

Zachary Beets

YC, are you a multi-instrumentalist or have you collaborated with some other players? You outdid yourself. So proud to support all of you right now!

Zachary Beets

Also is this patreon only? Id love to share this with my friend.

TrueAnonPod

I did everything but the saxophone, which was by Dave Fugel 🙏

Camden Hausberger

Really great storytelling here..can’t wait for p2!

Tommy York

Worth every second of the wait.

Tommy York

Not the first escape-from-abusive-teen-recovery-camp story I've heard, unfortunately. A friend went to one in Mexico (conveniently out of US jurisdiction).

Sean

Very nice work

SF

Fuggin WOOF. Good stuff, looking forward to more

Joe White

Incredible and raw stuff, Brace your candor and vulnerability is powerful. Also, we need to get Michael S Judge a time machine so he can return to the past to give young Allen Dulles a big HUG AND KISS

Joedie Sawyer

Thanks for sharing this Brace. I went through some tough years growing up and I blocked out that part of my life. Sometimes I want to remember more, but decades later I just think of it like a past life. All I can say is at least I’m still here. I have a lot of respect for you to research this stuff.

John Baker

Great episode. Powerful

Zachary Sloan

Re: opiate withdtawal - Interestingly, I've never had the GI withdrawal symptoms, even from intense precipitated withdrawal caused by taking suboxone too soon. For me, the worst thing is the complete and utter inability to experience even the tiniest instant of rest. It is basically the most pure and profound discomfort imaginable, with zero possibility of relief. This is the thing that distinguishes it from most other forms of pain/discomfort, which tend to have some possibility of relief or rest.

Sean Carton

As a teenager in the 80s in a wealthy set of people, this was 100% the drill for "bad kids"

Ben Watson

Great episode. Just lost a friend (overdose) in March who was truly never the same after attending the Carlbrook school (also based on Synanon teachings). Sober 20 years myself and just grateful I got arrested and sent to an actual rehab in highschool rather than one of these for-profit torture centers.

Marcus

That description of opiate withdrawal really brought back some memories. Feeling hot, then cold, then hot, then cold, sometimes feeling hot and cold simultaneously.

Marcus

The only symptom I ever got from PWD is a strange cold feeling coming over my body momentarily, could be because I was injecting the suboxone.

Logan Denzer

Thank you to all of you, and Brace, an additional thank you to you. You are helping a lot of people.

Nikki J

Wah bracie 😭❣️

Chris

Dr. Phil uses these camps

Tyler Scurlock

Holy shit yung Chomsky those tunes put me on a space ship to smoothtown USA

Kaleigh Allen

Brought back some really intense stuff. I was a gilman kid who got fucked up at the tracks countless times...this brought back rushing memories of all my friends who got sent to similar camps at around the same time. I was shocked I’d just taken that sort of thing as a fact of life...if my parents could have afforded it I’m sure I would have been subject to the same torture.

Julia

Holy shit Brace. I'm so sorry, I'm so grateful that you are here healthy and clean. Thank you for trusting your audience enough to go there and be vulnerable.

JC

Incredible work you three!

TrueAnonPod

Did you guys ever take a bunch of immodium at any point in order to get high

John McElroy

Thank you for this series 👍🏼❤️

Eric

This is so damn good!

Nick

🙏

Daniel Bear

almost got sent to one of these spots in high school. happened to two of my friends who are now in recovery. 100% sure it would’ve derailed my life. anyways great episode y’all

Trevor McDonald

I went to a boarding school started by former Synanons following the cedu “emotional growth curriculum” it was closed by the state of oregon for child abuse in 2009.

Zachary Sloan

I've also experienced that feeling before; I've had it happen when the non-suboxone opiate is overpowering the suboxone (specifically when I took the suboxone, realized I took it too early, and then took the other opiate in a high dose to reverse the PWDs - there's this period where I felt cold/clammy, and then things "leveled out"). Taking suboxone when you have a lot of another opiate in your system and it triggers complete PWDs is...very noticable, though. Definitely the worst withdrawal I've ever experienced. There's nothing quite like taking the suboxone and then realizing with gradual dread that you're falling into PWDs. Not sure how injection might affect this, since I only ever did it sublingual. If I had to guess, it might be that whatever opiate you had in your system was just overpowering whatever dose of suboxone you took.

I am become reply guy

Sounds like Dietrich is Matt Christman doing an Alex Jones/fat uncle impression. Great episode.

Sardonic

jesus christ this is going to be one for the record books

Dale Brennan

When I used to kick I would get high on meth and fuck and it was really intense! Loved your description. Been sober almost 8 years and as much as I love recovery there is also a lot of dark shit hiding in the corners. Went through drug court which did help but there was a lot of shady stuff there too. I’ve always suspected you understand the nuances in the recovery world and boy howdy this episode proves that point! Thank you brother!

Shiv

yes i missed the colored vinyl last time!

Mia

incredible ep 🙏 if anyone wants to ruin their week, there's a great graphic novel called Joe vs Elan Scool by a guy who went through something very similar to what Brace describes. His account is fucking harrowing, but he also does a really good job of unpacking the political and economic underpinnings the whole industry. would highly recommend you read this while you wait for the rest of the series.

Chris Ryan

Do you listen to any other podcasts?

Chris Ryan

It is the same or similar melody but c’mon dude

Kerri

I love you Brace

Monkee Enthusiast

I love you guys I asked for this episode for so long.

Monkee Enthusiast

It makes me feel like what I went through is something comprehensible and real

Hannah Pudner

JFC. All the love Brace. Paris Hilton went through similar, she talked about unnecessary internal cavity searches by male staff… 😖

Sheep

Amazing work this episode. Great music, tragic story, really insane shit discussed. I cannot wait until episode 2 drops.

Lane Foxly

Incredible episode. One of the few that’s brought me to tears. I’m pretty confident I’ve been just on the edge of a few places like this out in the Eastern Washington area.

Sean Reardon

This was incredible. Thanks so much for sharing Brace.

Padraic C

Music had me in tears. It's perfect.

justdave

Brace, please listen to this. spend time with horses, clear ice from their water, clean their stall till it becomes a zen garden, comb them till the horror show stops playing

Maura Willey

i second this. become a real cowboy brace

Antipaganda

Pearls before swine. Pah!

Antipaganda

Find another handsome cowboy and ride him brace

Antipaganda

What a beautiful way to tell this story. This is the sort of knowledge that grows empathy in us, and hopefully brings us closer together as humans. Brace, I wish I could be like you.

Devin Smith

I never comment nor do I use these words lightly but this is poggers well done and the music is goated, fantastic work ♥️

Spencer McKee

beautiful, gripping stuff - feels like something this pod’s been aiming at for a while. Can’t wait for the rest of the series

Scott

Did I hear Aaron Good at one point?

Kelley Coyne

This is amazing. Thank you brace for your honesty and vulnerability

Degrassi Knoll

Lol, same. "What are you here for?" Uhh...drugs?

Matthew Black

Can’t wait to share this with my therapist

Jessica S

Listening to that Dulles quote about the Soviets purported ability to program minds, so as to think and speak only what has been spoken to them, he would have LOVED the possibilities cable news and social media affords.

Jessica S

Brace, I’m still transfixed by your story every time I hear it. Keep sharing it. There are swaths of people who benefit from hearing someone speaking plainly about escaping their hell - not about AA or therapy or personal virtue, but the story of someone who is living the pain from a different perspective now, without prescription. You are insatiably curious and tenacious in pursuit. I can’t imagine that not being a large part of what keeps you in place. ✌️ (And Liz, you are incredible as always. YC, the music is perfect 🤌)

CC

Quality worth the wait.

Alex Kizuk

Sending love Brace. Incredible work you two on this podcast. Your episodes just get better and better, both in content and in production.

Monkee Enthusiast

Who else went to Waypoint Academy or Aspiro Adventure Wilderness Therapy Program 🔥🔥

Peter Annee

Last time Brace was left in charge of horses, one cancer addled horse got its “puusaayy” fingered… just sayin

Claire Simon

Ok so THATS what the secret of nimh was about?????

will lewis

Incredible. The music is my favorite of any series so far!

caseman

Phenomenal, cannot wait for more. Thank you based True Anon.

Max

My stomach dropped when you said the name of the school. I was in PG16 at monarch, and have had a hard time reckoning with the reality of the experience, and also explaining the more complicated aspects loved ones. This directly helps with both. I am so grateful that you all made this. Brace, thank you.

ben wright

This is so good, one of the very few episodes of any pod i listen to where ive replayed and researched immediately. You are very strong brace!

Jbear

Best podcast of all time

BruceInAdelaide

I said this to you Brace once before when you spoke of this, "You, Brace are a good man" and Liz is always an angel!.

jer

Phenomenal, meaningful work

rutjake

the voice acting is straight up bringing a tear to my eye. the gang’s all here!!

Elli

You guys are amazing, so grateful for this podcast

Moonwatcher13

God fucking damn that was an opening. I listened to the Paris Hilton Episode but hearing you put it in such stark terms like that, all laid out at once, is so fucked. I hope this project gives you something.

Ben

Man, can’t wait for part 2. I feel emotionally invested. Solid work ilu 😌

TrueAnonPod

Oh man---well, let me know what you think of some of the later episodes. I was PG 8 I think. Was Timothy Earle there when you were?

William Baldwin

What an amazing undertaking, looking forward to hearing the entire series. Great work you 3!

Max

Of course, he was ‘headmaster’ while I was there. Steve Rookie was my peer group leader.. did you know him ? I know he did some really intense cult therapy program before monarch that was related in some ways. He left the strongest impression of me out of anyone Do you remember what insight you made it to before you left? Was it before your quest? Can’t wait to hear the rest of the series.. thank you again

Lucy

Brace you absolutely need to address the greyhound thing ASAP

Lucy

I cannot believe you started that rumor

Degrassi Knoll

Desperate parents will continue to be preyed upon, but shining light on thus industry can only help some choose more compassionate, PROVEN, treatment paths...

NovalisGuy

Greyhound cannot be hood meat

Laurel

I’m here for this! Thank you.

Sean Orr

Theme song SLAPS

Able

I've never heard about any of this before, its honestly stunning

Zakir KH

Damn what an intro, gj gj

DruMagus

Yo the beats is nokking!

Jay

I spent the years between 12 and 16 in treatment joints like the one you describe in the intro, where I was sexually abused and beaten by other kids. It drove me crazy broke my mind and pushed me to drugs. I appreciate so deeply the work you do and things you communicate, it feels less lonely thanks to you and what you do. Much love to you brace and Liz, you guys rock and always do good work

meyer

Can’t get over how much the music slaps

Will Yandell

This episode was great. Brace u r so loved

Hannah Wacha

The intro was amazing. This show just gets better

Calum

They actually did a whole episode on it already, I'm too lazy to check what number but they mention it near the beginning of this one.

Lionel Boyd Johnson

He's getting his revenge with every episode, there's nothing these groups and people want more than to keep this shit quiet and shut people like Brace up. Keep naming and shaming these animals, Brace.

Erik Weissengruber

Wow. A great demonstration of how particular techniques of domination emerge out of overlapping enabling conditions, like new institutions (the psych establishment) social structures (the military/repressive state apparatus & the economic power it has) and local culture (Ameri-Protestant confession/ redemption rituals). Wish you could have researched it in a library instead of having to live it, Brace.

Emma Gerrity

Thank you for telling our story. Fuck Patrick.

Nic Bodiford

Absolutely love that you all got MSJ and the Boys on to do the voices.

Forrest Martin-Ruben

I am glad you’re doing this series, thank you. I’ve been trying to come up with something about how good it is as a listener but fuck it, can’t articulate it, just thanks big time.

Juliette DeMaso

Imploring you two before you continue to talk about drugs please have Carl Hart on or at least read his books. You get so close on therapeutic state issues but utterly smack into a dated, propagandized wall regarding substances. Especially those with .. let’s say stigmas. Brace, they handed you a “hello my name is” tag, but you don’t have to wear it. You two could prove uniquely helpful on this issue, especially after covering youth institutionalizing, enlightenment era psychology (brought to you by proponents of frenology) and CIA/Fibby substance appropriating/weaponizing

james

Cart Hart is interesting but safe to say he's an outlier.

Kyle Petty

I have re-listened to that intro probably five times already. Just incredible, the music drops as he asks those three powerful questions

Natalie

finally got to resub and i'm excited to finally hear this whole series
