I can’t remember, have you guys ever talked to Gumby 4 Christ?

Buster Malino

I don’t think they have but that would be cool. I don’t know if they have like a super specific topic that would be suited for podcast form but would be a cool conversation regardless

DRS

Check out Gumby’s pinned tweet. It pertains directly to this specific topic, if not the specific incident. That’s what made me think of Gumby.

Maura Willey

Liz buy some Bag Balm. It was originally made for putting on cow udders in the winter in Vermont but it's the best cold weather hand lotion

Scout

so much posting!! i love it

lust of the badger

hell yea, veiled prophet issue with this dude was one of the crazest

Baron

This was one of the first articles I’ve read through and through in months, kudos to the boy here, it was killer.

Beth

hey liz northerner with dry sensitive skin here. aside from the obvious (cera ve, etc) my best wintertime skin barrier trick is to melt shea butter over a double boiler. as soon as it's melted remove from heat and mix in a little oil (jojoba if i'm flush, almond if i'm not). pour the mixture into a container and immediately freeze. pull it out after idk 24 hours. once it thaws you'll have a smooth and creamy treat for your skin. straight glycerin is kinda messy but if you can deal with the hassle it's great. i use it straight out of the shower, then use the shea/jojoba balm after it absorbs. nuclear options are bag balm and corn huskers lotion. but these don't smell great obviously. good luck!

lilfukka

Bag balm is fantastic, but layer those moisturizers! Put a water-based one on first, then an oil-based moisturizer on top. I also love Skin Food from Weleda:)

lilfukka

Also I wish Brace had a film review show

Kamran Husain

liz avoid anything water based for you moisturizing while up north

Watermane

get Kanye on the pod

Graham Hoese

Two episodes on time in one week? More excited than the birth of my son.

coochykatana

Hi Liz -minneapolis human here- keihls creamy eye treatment with avocado, krave great barrier relief serum, dr jart ceramidin cream (moisture retention shield. really thick…maybe too thick lol) see you in Feb

coochykatana

also keihls midnight recovery concentrate (face oil) so fucking good

Michael S. Judge

I think Pacino is doing pretty good, analogy-wise, for a blind guy, and as a former Disability SSI recipient, I'm suing Brace and only Brace

Kristen

Rip Angelo ❤️

slacc_attacc

For Liz, Krave great barrier Reef serum is very helpful for the Canadian climate! I grew up in Calgary which is colder dryer shittier Toronto, and it helped me a lot through some particularly dry winters.

Yup

The Badalementi tribute!

kiki

using an occlusive over my moisturizer at night always helps me w the winter dry skin liz :)

Dinosaur

cover your face in melted beeswax and let it solidify up there. totally protects your whole face don't google it.

Beth

No1BASICCHANNELFAN

I’m gonna fart real bad @ ur next tour date it’s gonna ruin it!!

Jodi Heartz

In Montreal you have access to all the great cheap French brands: https://www.laroche-posay.ca/en_CA/toleriane-dermo-cleanser-400ml/3337872411830.html?gclid=Cj0KCQiAqOucBhDrARIsAPCQL1YwBpd3RboRqbyzBEivUeM0zWxB69XLpMS8t0zH9v7pqm4WaZj_gawaAuIoEALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds https://www.google.ca/search?q=embryolisse+moisturizer&client=safari&hl=en-ca&prmd=sivn&sxsrf=ALiCzsYCckvtyFcCvdykuS8rfOGW6yBwoQ:1671124447462&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwjMy8PYj_z7AhVCF1kFHT2gDFQQ_AUoAnoECAcQAg&biw=414&bih=715&dpr=2 https://uriage.ca/products/xemose-lipid-replenishing-cream Any Jean-Coutu (chain pharmacy) will have piles of this stuff and it’s heaven See you in Montreal!

Roarschach_Muckracken

I’m in the Show me so these are always great. Also, as a Libra liz should be good with wind

Joe Bowden

Love the music at the end youngchomsky RIP angelo

TrueAnonPod

She La Roche on my Posay till I cleanser

K'caj

Liz you gotta hit up Mountain Equipment Company for all your cold-weather clothing needs. Flagship location is a block down the street from the Toronto show location. There's also a very nice Fjallraven store literally next store. Two great options. You're gonna wanna go baselayer, down midlayer, and a nice wind/waterproof hard shell, or get a full down parka. Baselayer leggings also a good idea as well as thermal socks. I'd suggest merino wool for both unless you're allergic, much nicer on the skin than synthetics.

K'caj

Finish off with a nice merino toque or a buff, and some merino liner gloves with some windproof top gloves.

Jack Zumalt

great tracks today yungchomsky

Laurel

Mulder and Scully vibes

Hot Rod

Every podcast needs a STL correspondent.

Bennett

There’s a scene in the movie Fat Man and Little Boy of a famous cap slap talked about in this ep.

Yvonne LaRose

Gotta give it to our boy Brace: your Quebecois accent is tres bien, and I'm Canadian so

Yvonne LaRose

...I know what I'm talking about, tabarnaque! Take care all and thank you for all that you do. Keep fighting the good fight!

Austin Heath

Why won't you guys come to Detroit?

Valentino

See ya in Toronto. PS Montreal is super fucking cold in Feb, Toronto is also pretty cold but mostly just slushy and gross.

NYCM&AHole

Because brace hates kiss and Detroit rock city.

TangiePower

Industry poses all sorts of public health risks that are downplayed or outright denied, it’s one of the big lies since the industrial era got its footing. Seems to be a little more awareness about it recently though. Between the left revisiting this history and OSHA admitting that it’s exposure standards are too weak, I’ve seen studies about car exhaust causing cancer. And when electric cars roll out and air quality and urban zones improves, we’ll likely see a corresponding decrease in cancer. It will be hard to deny at that point. Public health authorities are complicit with industry in downplaying all this.

❄️LIZ WINTER SKINCARE REC ❄️ I’m a longtime Minneapolis resident and my moisture barrier survives winters specifically thanks to Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Moisturizer. One bottle will get you through tour. It’s a gentle, non-comedogenic armor against bitter winds and negative temps. I feel happier after I put it on. Not sticky OR oily, but heavy enough that you won’t need to constantly reapply. See you in February!

Matthew

sweet glad to see john wilson back on the pod

sadie

liz -- palmers cocoa butter formula

sadie

and kiehls midnight recovery concentrate

KateMarie Bocconi

Liz, my recc is Dieux Instant Angel face lotion and also slugging, AKA following up with an occlusive. I use straight Vaseline. Do not slug on nights you use retinol however. I would even start with a hylaraunic acid serum then lotion. And do not forget SPF!! The cold lies and the sun reflects off the snow resulting in terrible burns.

Hot Rod

STL = Gateway City; BAL = Charm City the more you know 🌈

Brian Long

February is typically our coldest month in Minnesota so bring a good coat!

essie

re: skincare rec, either the little tub of the dr jart water biome moisturiser, or the toner + essence set from the same range - then any creamy type texture moisturiser over top (i use epaderm or the beauty bay oatmeal one, but i have no idea if these are available in the US) i have real bad eczema dryness and live in scotland if this doesn’t work nothing will 🫡

malpertuis

I'm all enjoying a good podcast, turning over new truth nuggets etc taking a moment digest what I learn as the ending music starts and suddenly I'm choking up, missing Badalamenti.

Cron

RIP ANGELO

Swamp Kingdom

Liz, additional skin recs: Don't succumb to the temptation to shower in very hot water. Pick up a body wash that is mostly oil, or an actual bath oil. Get a nighttime lip mask or oil, and a much thicker eye cream than you're currently using.

Claire Simon

Don’t have any novel skincare recs but I highly recommend wool base layers to stay warm!! Wool retains heat when it gets wet which goes a long way in the winter

Sean Carton

stealing valor, er, I mean charm, from the real charm city Baltimore... which interesting enough ALSO has a very sus history with medicine (Hopkins) and black people and housing projects..... hmmm

mexicanhalloween .

me and the other scientists giggling as I rub my dick on the demon core

E.J. Rollins

Oh cool, another ep about my home town!

Samuel Lundquist

I grew up in MN and I remember when we were younger and we would get back from sledding or playing hockey or whatever it was outdoors, our mom would just slather our faces with aquaphor. If you guys need boots or coats lmk haha.

meyer

skin food is the best

meyer

as a very dry guy i’m really appreciating the skincare recs as well as the episode

hannah

Personally as an Ontarian I’m pro Nivea cream og formula in the tin for keeping my flesh moisturized

Patchuey

Liz, bring your favorite products and then slug your face with Vaseline at night and even lightly before leaving the house. Gets me through winter and awful drying forced air.

Patchuey

Also bring a decent pillowcase it’s worth it with the heat

ClownBabee24

As soon as brace said pruit igoe my mind immediately went to Koyaanisqatsi, and Philip Glass' music set to its demolition

Ryan

braces french accent sounds exactly like my quebecois grandpa. good job

Jake Reynolds

St Paul MN did the same thing with the freeway, splitting a neighborhood down the middle

Sarah Jay

YC, thank you for your awesome Badalamenti tributes. RIP to the master.

Lawson

Portland Oregon also did this. they forcefully evicted hundreds of black families to build onto the i5 and build a hospital.

Chungo Bungo

Look up Project Dribble, subterranean nuclear testing in Mississippi they did right after JFK’s head did that thing

Kurt Brendel

I'm grateful this podcast exists, it's because I love what you guys are all about that I think there should be a moratorium on saying any form of "my thing is"

K H

I'm sayin it's fake. Fusion energy deboonked.

tappcha

Can you guys do an episode on Michael Jackson?

Erin H

Udder butter & bag balm

maggie mountain

Cold weather skincare tip 4 Liz: literally slather on so much aquaphor no joke, that or a good facial oil after ur moisturizer~

K

What's nuts to me is the gentrification of former industrial areas in East Coast cities. All those toxins still there...

Antipaganda

Being an American must be fucking weird sometimes. "Huh. So my dad got sprayed with glowing radium dust by the government." Chomsky, absolutely incredible, ethereal and beautiful music taking the show out there. Just awesome.

Olenna

Liz you need to use Welada Skin Food in Canada

James Murray

That slappin caps throwback threw me for a loop

fake and gay

i use a plant-based squalane moisturising oil by the ordinary brand and it’s been really good for my skin this winter. i don’t do make up though so idk how it works if you apply products over it

Owen Webster

I’m a nuclear engineer and normally in modern terms FP means fission product which also points to the same conclusion.

Jacob Ma

I've never heard Brace mention them, but Against All Authority has a song about strontium 90, called "The Source of Strontium 90" complete with an excerpt about a baby tooth study measuring the levels of strontium 90 in baby teeth.

James Murray

Next tour stopping in Detroit when 👁️

hugomac

The US government also ran these tests on Winnipeg and Medicine Hat in W. Canada. I remembered reading about it probably in the 80s, but wonder if had been declassified by then? Google confirmed my memory, though.

Brendan Garcia

Mallinckrodt are also the company with the America’s only license to produce (pharmaceutical) cocaine, and also produced (pharmaceutical) methamphetamine and opioids.

TeeThirtyFour

liz—weleda skin food, it’s very thick but I put it on over jojoba oil to sort of seal everything in

tuztooz

seconding weleda skin food for hands and if you have sensitive skin, cerave crème for face. Also la roche posay cicaplast lip baum and hand cream. hope you get warm february days in mtl, i’ve seen it happen! bring waterproof shoes

Caz VanDevere

Hi Liz, my gf said to try a thing called 'slugging' for keeping your skin healthy in the cold. Sorry for how gross it sounds but it's basically putting vaseline on your face at night, over your normal skin routine. Here's an article about it, and hope this helps! https://www.byrdie.com/slugging-skincare-trend-5087545

Shiv

Wow Liz has more Shooters (aka Skincare Gumshoes) than I realized! stealing these product tips for New England visits

tuztooz

thank you for the angelo badalamenti tribute yc 🙏

ereroi

is this guest capable of saying anything but “yeah” or the occasional “right”? it’s like he’s not even listening to what brace and liz are saying. he’s not even responding, just continuing

Science Officer Stefanie

I’m a Canadian who lives at the start of the Alaska highway in Northern BC. The best stuff ever is a Canadian product called Glaxal Base. It’s available at most pharmacies and only costs about $25 for a giant 1 litre (pint sized) tub. It’s very affordable and I missed it dearly the five years I lived in Oklahoma.

A Loon

Good that Dick Gephardt had a role in releasing information about these experiments - Also from that era remember the unexpectedly good (Clinton 1st term) Energy Secretary Hazel O'Leary. She revealed a lot of DOE secrets that helped some get compensation - then was taken down by a BS minor travel expenses scandal that turned into a major national story (for some reason).

laura palmer

liz!! so excited to see y’all in february! i have v dry / sensitive skin and i love using vanicream all over my face and the la roche posay cicaplast balm on the parts of my face that tend to be the driest! also i think layering chapstick under aquaphor really seals in moisture! 🫶🏼

Brendan Laiddlaw

Chuck another 10-20 years on your fusion prediction

H k

YOU GUYS STRESS ME OUT SO MUCH WITH TOUR DATES PLEASE IM BEGGING YOU STOP

Zach

Can't wait until you can dive into the true Charm City of Baltimore

MG

Come to Columbus, OH! Center of Les Wexner country!

Lettuce Jones

I've lived in St. Louis my whole life and never heard about this! I knew about Pruit Igoe but never heard even a peep about any atomic clouds. Like holy shit! Always love hearing from Devin!

Joshua J Marx

Believe they were doing that shit in Europe too bub.

Sebastian

Hey name the files please ! Everything is downloading as 1.mp3

Antipaganda

When and where? I haven't heard the details of any other government's experiments with radiology. I wouldn't be surprised if the Nazis did some, or 831, but they were a little early for focussing on it. For my own government in Australia, all I know of is the British nuclear tests at Maralinga where they didn't warn the people living near the test site, or give a shit when their groundwater got irradiated.

Emina

Pai peacekeeper balm is the one Liz do not leave Cali wo it

TrueAnonPod

That’s a patreon issue unfortunately, but I’ll reach out to them about it

Sandy

Perfect Twin Peaks outro. The show did cross my mind a few times during the episode...

Char Kelly

Brace’s type is Danny DeVito as Phoebe Bridgers…..talk about legs like Greek columns

Mackenzie

fantastic except for the wind sounds which as a woman I hated

Calum Anklesaria

The Twin Peaks remix was a nice touch at the end

Jack Zumalt

yung chomsky, is there a longer version of the twin peaks remix at the end?
